  • “I am the law of Moses.” Best line in the Season 3 trailer? Or proof the show is being unduly influenced? Either way, this “controversy” is about more than just a single issue. It speaks to bigger questions of how to handle criticism, what is healthy debate, and why mind-reading is so toxic.

We need to keep the Chosen as Christian Entertainment not meant to replace the gospel or scriptures! It is pointing the way, many have found faith and returned to scripture, by watching this series. Personally grateful that the show helped bring a friend to finding a fellowship and leading a life he loves in the Lord! Blessed and safe days!

This show opened my heart to forgiveness and feeling forgiven. It also made me hungry to learn the bible and have gotten back to church, confesses for the first time in my entire life, let go of new age stuff that had gotten me so lost, now I treat myself with honor, care and respect. I don’t feel alone anymore and i’ve surrender to God. Suicidal thoughts, anxiety have disappeared. I’m still a working progress, but i’m praying and walking with God’s now. I see now how I carried the pain of my parents, they too don’t know how to forgive and forget. I see how my life has so many setbacks due to the lack of my family not having a solid relationship with God. I pray now God let’s me have my own family because I believe again in love. • @AustinFaux
      @AustinFaux ปีที่แล้ว +25

@@ThePwhite96 Short answer is Yes. I’m a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a student of Palmer Theological Seminary, and I’m the Senior Religious Affairs NCO for the State and I read many different versions of the Bible. We use KJV for synchronization purposes in worship, but in personal, devotional or academic studies we read many versions of the Bible (ESV, NIV, NRSV, etc).
You didn’t bring this up specifically but many have so I’ll respond by also saying; some make belief in “The Bible” the litmus test for who is and isn’t a Christian. But in so doing they have accidentally claimed all of early Christianity as heretics, because the Bible didn’t exist yet. This “litmus test” is more a claim of authority conversation than a conversation to define the word , “ Christian.” Many Protestants instinctively protect their own theological position of authority in the “Bible alone” by being “Bible believing Christians” and thus claim justified separation from the Catholic Church. But this doesn’t in fact “define” who is and isn’t a Christian, it only claims authority for justified separation.
So then how do you define who is and isn’t a Christian? And who/what has authority to define who is and isn’t a Christian? As was mentioned earlier it’s not a belief in the Bible, because all of early Christianity wouldn’t be considered Christians. There has to be something else that authoritatively defines what/ who is a Christian. All of early Christendom operated on a level of “Authority” that is foreign to the Protestant perspective of Sola Scriptura and through that authority called themselves “Christian.” So what was that authority? There is the true authorized definition of the word “Christian.” In addition to this even if someone was to use the Bible alone to define the word “Christian” it only appears 3 times in the Bible. And an exegesis of those passages clearly defines what the authoritative definition has already claimed for the definition of a Christian. It’s a fascinating topic of study if you’re ever interested but it clearly defines members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as Christians, just not “Bible alone” Christians. But that’s okay because neither were the Early Christians.

The Bible (God's revealed word and our sole authority on what Jesus actually said) does not have Jesus say, "I am the law of Moses". Jesus claimed a lot of "I am"s for himself in the Bible, but that is not one of them. The Bible perfectly reveals who Jesus is and we should not feel the need to add to it or embellish it. The church has way too many “heresy hunters” or as Paul stated, “busybodies.” We believers are to speak truth to error and deception but always with humility, gentleness, respect, and love. Whenever we speak we must ask ourselves, “Will my speech further or hinder the gospel of Christ to those who are listening to me?” Shalom.

The true gospel is not only that Jesus died for our sins, but that we also die to our OWN sin and follow Jesus’ example and carry our OWN crosses daily. You do not teach the full gospel, but rather a counterfeit. Friends, do not be deceived by this man! Jesus came to free you FROM your sin, not IN your sin -
“who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-by whose stripes you were healed.”
      ‭‭I Peter‬ ‭2:24‬ NKJV
“Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
      ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels. But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God.””

I can finish reading the New Testament (or the Book of Mormon for that matter) and then jump into an episode of the Chosen and hear the Savior speaking in a more modern and relatable language, it actually deepens what I learned in my study. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and have, with many other members of my church, have followed and loved The Chosen. I had been feeling a growing connection between Christians of all faith traditions, and hope that connection and increased understanding can grow among various Christian churches through this wonderful work. I appreciate that Dallas is so positive in his approach to both criticism and praise. He and those working with him on this wonderful project are very clearly inspired. I was very moved by the statement “I am the Law of Moses.” Certainly all Christians understand that Jesus was the fulfillment of the Law of Moses, and of all of the Old Testament prophesies which pointed to the coming of the Messiah, and not just “Mormons”. Am I not correct about that?
The Old Testament is the first testament and witness of Christ.
The New Testament was the second testament and witness of Christ. They confirm one another.
And the Book of Mormon is a third testament and witness of Christ, confirming the first and second. It is a record of Christ’s work and witness among the people of the American continent; the “other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.” Christ told his disciples he was going to them in John 10:16.
Gos does not limit Himself in witnessing to the world about the divinity of His Son!

Dallas, I'm LDS and love the Chosen and also realize that what you are doing is trying to appeal to as large a demographic as possible. Initially I had some issues like I would have preferred to see the biblical ordinances like Jesus' baptism. As things went on I understood more overall about what you have been trying to do. Personally, I feel the Lord's spirit in every episode and I believe this project has been guided by him. What I liked most about a previous explanation you made on this complaint is that it was that the theology of the Messiah perfectly aligns with this phrase; whether it was the Bible or Book of Mormon point it out. Obviously, I believe that the Book of Mormon enhances the divinity of Jesus Christ and haven't seen any disagreement between the Bible and Book of Mormon on this point.
Unfortunately you are discovering what we as members of the LDS Church have known for a very long time; the dedication to a tradition seems to override one's ability to openly view the theology of the Bible. I've read the Bible, both testaments, from cover to cover multiple times. I love the Bible and I love the way the Chosen is working through the biblical subject matter. The Chosen has also been accused of "changing" the bible or "adding to" the bible where some traditions see serious problems with that. Well, the Bible has been changed in one form or another every time it has been translated into a language other than the original. To apply this idea, which is only really meant for a specific book and not the whole of the biblical record, is also an inaccurate accusation. So misquotes, mind-reading, and other such attempts that have been foisted on The Chosen are ridiculous and futile, in my opinion.
In the thirteenth Article of Faith Joseph Smith stated the following: "...we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." The Chosen is definitely virtuous, lovely, and of good report and the honest in heart will most certainly seek after these things.
Thank you for your hard work.

We have the original text in Hebrew and Greek. The Bible has not changed. LDS and it’s fake doctrine and fake prophet Joseph smith want you to believe it has so you can believe their lies. Isaiah 44:6 “I am the first and I am the last,
and apart from me there is no God.” Theees only one god and you won’t become gods one day. Read the Bible and learn the truth and run from the LDS cult who teaches a false god and false Christ. Beware of false teachers just like Paul said

@@Matt-fo9qp Like I said I’ve read the Bible from cover to cover multiple times and I’m not going to get into the changes here. My point is that Dallas is being accused of adding to, or changing the biblical record with The Chosen and he’s not; at least no more than it has already been changed.
No one has any original Old Testament (Hebrew) or New Testament (Greek) manuscripts. They are copies of copies of copies, etc, etc. LDS doctrines ARE the same doctrine of the church. Traditional Christianity is tainted with the doctrines of men. Isaiah 44:6 does not contradict the doctrine of becoming heirs of God and Joint heirs of Christ (Rom 8:17).
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the restored ancient church of Jesus Christ. The authority needed to be restored due to the biblically prophesied apostasy (2 Thes 2:3).
You can mislabel Joseph Smith, the Book of Mormon, and the LDS church, but that will come with consequences. Dallas respects our faith, while not agreeing with everything. That’s a true Christian.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I can state that there are verses in the Book of Mormon might have similar meaning to what is found in the Old & New Testaments, but not necessarily word-for-word. The BOM is merely another testament of Jesus Christ, so why not ? Pure focus is on Jesus Christ, our savior, is most important, regardless of religious denomination or church. These individuals Dallas speaks of are attempting to stir up contention (Satan's devices) and should be ignored. Bravo to Dallas and the entire Chosen staff and cast for a remarkable work they are doing !!!

I am not saying that you are purposely quoting the Book of Mormon, however, one of the most awesome moments in the Gospels is when Jesus proclaimed, "Before Abraham was I AM!" In so doing, Jesus proclaimed His deity. By saying "I am the Law of Moses!" it breaks this. Jesus did not come to BE the Law, He came to FULFILL it... that is, to be the Spotless Lamb of God. I'm all for the art and nuance (as you masterly used in the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus), but in this license, you really muddied some very important doctrinal points in the Gospels. It's your project, do as you wish, but be mindful that there are those, like my daughter, who will not read the Bible but WILL watch The Chosen, and I want her to know an accurate Jesus, and up to now, I was pretty much with you.

Everything you said here is a lesson to me. I have allowed the judgments of others to destroy me to the point that it has crippled me and left me very sick indeed. I’m staying close to Jesus and can I just say that The Chosen has been an absolute blessing to me. Jesus has told me several times that I remind Him of Mary Magdalene. The episode where Jesus seeks her out and saves her is very similar to the way in which He came to save me. The part at the end where He quotes from Isaiah as He walks towards her and she breaks down into His embrace I cried buckets. I cried throughout the entire episode. The verse used (I can’t think of the exact place in Isaiah right now) is a Scripture that is very dear to me. Thank you so much for The Chosen. I cried lots watching other episodes but during that episode I cried constantly I couldn’t see the screen on my phone for tears. I know others are having similar experiences. The way Jesus is portrayed is so like the Jesus I know personally. Full of love affection grace humble and yet has an incredible sense of humour to go with it. Thank you for sharing this message. I need to heal from my trauma and I do forgive those people. But we mustn’t let people destroy us.

Thirteen years ago, my husband and left an extreme fundamental church cult. It took some therapy for me to see who God really is. We were told that no one, outside our church, were Christians. What a great surprise to find so many healthy Christians there actually are! It took me awhile to start watching The Chosen series. I had the fear that it wouldn’t be true to who God is. How wrong I was! It has helped me to search out and study the Bible, which I haven’t done in a few years, due to my background and ministers misconstruing the Bible.
Certain people are going to always come after you over something and those are NOT going to be convinced by your explanations. I’m so glad you decided to not please people. God is the only One you need to please.
I cannot express how much this show has meant to me. It’s a great visual aid into who Jesus was and is. I’ve watched it so many times and every time He does a miracle, it’s gut wrenching. Nathaniel is the one I identify with the most. After leaving the church cult, we lost our three children and most of our families. I asked God that question “Do you see me?” so many times and said “look at what I’ve done for you!”, because it was the right thing. I started praying, believing He’d answer my prayers. Two of our children are now out and the other does allow us to see them.
You are doing a great ministry, Dallas. I pray that you and your team will keep God in focus, as you continue this series. The devil would love nothing more than to get a hold of you and ruin it all. Thank you so much for all your hard work and dedication!
