Thank you for this video. It’s my shame to say that even after 43 years of being a Christian, I was having doubts. Not just any doubts; serious ones were troubling me. I believe God is slowly awakening me to something that’s quite powerful as my spiritual breakdown was so severe. This reaffirmed much for me and I believe I’ll be okay. Again, thank you and thank God.

The Greek term for “brother”, adelphos, may refer not only to blood relatives, but also to distant cousins or, more widely, to others with whom one shares a spiritual bond.
It “can” be taken that way in context. But that's not the most natural reading. If it was being used in that sense, it'd probably be used to include the 4 men and 2 women, but in Mark 6:3 adelphos is used for the 4 brothers with adelphe for the 2 sisters. Even so, it could potentially mean close relative, but that is not as natural a reading and probably less likely. Thing is, I could accept it going either way. A Catholic position is that it must mean close relatives, because of the position that Mary remained a virgin and is Queen of heaven. There is no biblical support for that position though and hence I don't think it should leverage that requirement on the meaning of adelphos here.
As a Catholic, I agree with the statement that brother could be distant relative. The Catholic faith believes Mary was and is ever virgin. Our faith is not based on scripture alone, but also on tradition. In the Catholic Catechism paragraph 500 it says, “In fact James and Joseph, “brothers of Jesus”, are the sons of another Mary, a disciple of Christ, whom St. Matthew significantly calls”the other Mary.” They are close relations of Jesus, according to an Old Testament expression.”
Actually, Jesus Himself did not refer to those “brothers” and “sisters” as aldophos and adelphai but “syngeneusin”. He clarifies what their relationship actually was. This word means “brother or sister from another womb” & refers to cousins/kinsmen. Since we read Scripture in English usually, this all translates to brethren and sisters. I’ll post below but it’s important to know that Syngeneusin can NEVER be used with blood siblings. It means “cousins” or clansmen/kinsmen or kinswomen” while adelphos and adelphai are more ambiguous in terms that although translate to “brothers and sisters” can mean either actual siblings, kinsmen or kinswomen ( cousins ) or ideological brethren and sisters. Additionally, when Jesus speaks of his own house, it doesn’t denote a physical abode like it does today. It refers to lineage…a way to track genealogy among the Hebrews to ironically allow them to identify the Messiah. The Gospel of Mark 6: …hearing him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to him, that such mighty works are performed by his hands! 3 Is this not the carpenter, the son of Mary, and brother (adelphos) of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not his sisters (adelphai) here with us?” So they were offended at him. 4 But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own country (en têi patridi), among his own relatives (en tois syngeneusin autou), and [relatives] in his own house [of the father’s family line from which one descends] (en têi oikiai).” 5 Now, he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And he marveled because of their unbelief.’ That Mary remain a Perpetual Virgin is also supported biblically and culturally at the Crucifixion. If she had other children, she would go live with them after Jesus died on the Cross not John. It is believed Joseph also remained celibate. There is Biblical precedence for this as well. All this is lost when only read in vernacular translations and changes and customs since 1st century Holy Land.
I love Jesus so much. I am so glad my parents taught me about Him because they love Him too. I pray my children and grands will also be Jesus followers. Thank you for explaining these details about the show! I find every scene with Jesus and Mary so tender. She was a mother and did regular every day mom things. I often watch my kids and I love them so much my heart almost hurts and I catch myself holding my hand over my heart. I wonder if Mary did the same? Then I think that as much as I love my babies-Jesus loves us so much more. What a thought!
The only issue is challah wasn’t invented nor part of our Jewish tradition till around the 1600s when European Jews used German style enriched doughs to make their special Shabbat bread. But Jewish communities who remained in the Middle East/Africa never used this bread for holidays or shabbats. Also Rosh Hashana (biblically more often called Yom HaTeruah) wasn’t really yet a thing in Yeshua time. It was a later rabbinic changing and addition to the holiday. The new Year declared in the Torah is Passover. In Yeshua’s time some were starting to see the agricultural new year that happened along side Yom HaTeruah as a new year, but more so it was a day of the blast and a day of a calling to repentance, not a big celebration.
That is very interesting. I am not Jewish and therefore would not know of any discrepancies. I wonder if this video was made in collaboration with the same rabbi that is part of what they call the round table where the writers of the series collaborate with three different clergy, one of which is a rabbi. Did this person do this on his own? He probably should’ve got more information.
@@patriciasmith7074 there were other types of breads besides flat breads. More fancy ones could be made with olive oil and spices and also. But “flat breads” were to quickest and most practical for daily use.
Brandon, thank you for sharing more on the jewish historical, religious and cultural context of this scene! And thank you for tying the verses from the various books of the gospels together to help provide richer context and support for the scenes.

Ok I believe your Islam faith and I believe Christian faith and I believe in Catholic faith and Budah and all of the religions. I do not believe in the way some try to teach the scripture and I do not like how preachers try to force things into my head. But for you to come here and say that Jesus was mearly a man then tell me how come you have not been able to steer all the believers in Jesus away from him yet? I will tell you why. Because people like me that have such a strong faith but not really a very strong culture went searching for something I know is there but I didn't know what or where. When I found Jesus or Jesus found me and I grew a relationship with his his teaching and I read the Quran they teach me the same thing. People do not understand the Quran and take the evilness that is not what it is sayingg but each of us has to work out our demons. What I am saying is there is in no way in this World you will even convince me that There was no Jesus. For when I call to him he is there ad a matter of fact I do not think he ever leaves. My side now. He guides me when I cannot see. I can hear his voice when he warms me of danger. He calls my name when I feel lost. I believe in 1 God for all of us. What ever his name may be called God Allah Elijah El shaddai or Jesus does not mean he is this many people or entities this means that we all know there is something that is there holding us together. And that is Love and that is what Jesus was trying to teach us. In a time when people needed to learn how to love each other. Because coveting thy neighbor's wife and stuff was not love. Because killing lives was not love. Because idolizing golden cows or neon signs was not love. Stealing was not love. Turning on your family and disrespecting them was not love. We needed guidance to the right way of living without creating a reason to fear or guilt. So until your culture starts teaching me personally about your religion I will stick with the best most beautiful story even to survive eternity.

The original, the oldest version of Christianity teaches that Jesus had no siblings-brothers meant family, not necessarily siblings. 2. Jesus would never have given His Mother’s care (Jn 19) to anyone else if He had had brothers, against the Law. 3. Mary is the Woman of Gen 3:15, and in Rev 11, the Ark, and in Chapter 12. Mary’s role was significant and unique as the New Eve, not just a good mom. Our roles are significant and not generic as well. Praise to the Lord and thank you for yours.
Thank you for saying this. I was going to reply with a similar comment, but you have done a far better job than I could have. Perhaps Jesus's "brothers " weren't there for Rosh Hashanah because they have different parents and were celebrating with them?
Thank you for your insights, Brandon! God bless you! While there is not doubt that James, Joseph, Simon, and Jude were relatives of Jesus, I believe it is important to note that the Greek word used for brothers, adelphos (singular) or adelphoi (plural), is not restricted to biological brothers as we see in the Septuagint and the New Testament: “So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers” (Gen 13:8, NIV; see also 14:12). But Abram and Lot were not biological brothers, but Lot was Abram's nephew. Paul writes, “[Jesus] appeared to more than five hundred…brothers at the same time” (1 Cor. 15:6). Both of these use the same Greek word applied to Jesus' brothers, but it clearly does not mean biological give the verse's context.
If the Greek word for brother has a semantic domain of meaning, then we must rely on the context to give us the most straight forward interpretation. Matthew 1:25 states that Joseph "knew her not until she had brought forth her firstborn son", meaning that Joseph and Mary did have normal marital relations after Jesus's birth. There marriage produced children. “Isn’t this the Carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us? “ (Mark 6:3) The crowd in Nazareth, are taking offense at Jesus because they knew him and his family members. They list Mary as Jesus‘s mother, and then list his brothers and sisters. The most natural reading of this is that these are his immediate family members and not extended family members like cousins. In Galatians chapter 1 verse 19 Paul says that he went up to Jerusalem to get acquainted with Peter, but didn’t meet any of the other apostles. Only James, the Lords brother. Why is Paul making a distinction with James from all the other apostles? It is because James has a unique relationship with Jesus, because he is Jesus’ half- brother. If a person was not bound to the Marian dogma of perpetual virginity, he would read these passages as I do, because it’s the most natural way of reading them. But if one is kept from a natural reading because of a dogma, he must find an alternative reading to satisfy the dogma.
@Faison Cochrane The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Saviour of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin. In other words, Mary was indeed saved but via PREVENTION. As the "Ark of the Covenant" which contains the "Word", it is fitting that she is immaculate and preserved from sin in the first place.
@@bole6404 She was only a virgin until after Jesus was born. The Bible tells us this, not any religion..'and Joseph knew Not Mary, until Jesus was Born'. What verses in the Bible supports your comment? None...so it's a manmade thinking. What did Jesus say to Mary when He was on the Cross? ' Woman, your son ' Meaning that Disciple John would now watch over Mary, as Joseph was no longer on earth. But He did Not call her mother, since He existed before time began. Just like when they told Jesus ' your mother and family are looking for you'. He replied ' Who is my mother, and who is my brother? Those who do Gods will are my mother and family. He gave no homage to her, but respected her. He knew she was from Adam...but Jeses is the second Adam. Read the Bible and you will know thew truth, and the Truth will set you free. Ask God to reveal truth, regardless of what you were taught Do you know that Jesus was with God in the beginning? Did you know that Mary was born like any other person was, but Jesus came to earth (the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us) . Jesus existed from the beginning, but had to come in the flesh. He also had to have sinful nature, to be tempted in all ways (yet He did not sin) If Mary was not like the rest of us, and had no sinful nature, then He could not Redeem us from Sin. Mary was human, like us all. Jesus was Divine, like God. Emanuel- God with us. Mary was honored and Highly favored...and what a task to raise the Messiah...but was human, sinned and died. She had other kids. She was never divine, nor should Any human ever pray to her.
@@bole6404 Let’s be honest, none of the Marian dogmas of: Perpetual Virginity, Immaculate Conception -where she is kept from original sin and personal sin and her Assumption into Heaven are true because the scriptures teach it. Rather, they are said to be true based on later traditions. All three of these dogmas are in conflict with what has been written by the Holy Spirit in scripture. One must use typology to make the case, which is dangerous because of its subjectivity. You can make anything “true” by looking for types in the Old Testament and making analogies.

Profound Truth, as always! Last night's clip almost brought me to tears. Now that I have a more personal understanding of James from your Bible Study, it broke my heart when Jesus asked about the whereabouts of James and Jude. How it must have broken Jesus' heart that His own family members turned away from Him. Thankfully, though, they eventually saw the truth of who He was. Love your insights, Brandon! God bless you! 📖

Few people these days understand what a levirate marriage is. This helps with understanding what was common custom. Read the story of Tamar in Genesis 38. You must understand that G-d does not always react kindly to those who try and thwart his ways.

I don’t read or take notice of the bible however I watched Season’s 1&2 about five times and I’ve already watched the first four episodes of Season 3 three times already. It’s a story explained totally different from what I have heard people explain and act out in daily life. I’m looking forward to viewing Episode #5 on Sunday. Hahom! Thank you for making this and to all the writers producers directors and especially the actors, “WOW” how they’re individual lives must have transformed. I can’t imagine it’s too humbling of an experience just watching the series let alone acting in it. Seneko Kakona Blessings to you all! Omabahari! With much respect! 🙏🏽♥️🤲🏼
For me, this series has helped me get reacquainted with the people of the Bible. I have read the scriptures through in year, every year for 25 years. And in no way are these movies a detractor at all! They have only helped and unlocked the reality of the scriptures for me!👵😇
If Jesus had brothers, then why did he have Mary go live with John? It was the Jewish tradition that the males of the household took care of the widow, which Jesus did but after his death, there weren’t any other siblings to fulfill this role! So “brothers” is used for the word cousins.
Hey! Catholic here that definitely doesn't believe Jesus had biological siblings. There's a tradition among the Orthodox churches that Jesus may have had step siblings via St. Joseph. Or, as you pointed out, it may have been cousins or other relatives. In the livestream clip, it was left vauge what exactly the relationship was there. If it's that vauge in the show, I think we'll be ok. The theme of Jesus being rejected by the people in his hometown, including his relatives, is definitely in the gospel, so I think it's still appropriate and fits, even if written in a way that makes the non-evangelical crowd cringe a bit. That said... really hoping Dallas remains respectful of the beliefs of what amounts to a very large percentage of his audience.
Jesus had a few brothers. Remember that Jude was a brother of Jesus. And, James was also a brother. They also became Disciples later on after he left us for heaven. He would have asked John to look after her, because John was also a Christian. Jesus did not die per se, because he rose again on the 3rd day, remembef.
Thank you so much Brandon for sharing this beautiful and powerful message about Jewish traditions and what we can learn about this scene with Mary and Yeshua 🤗
Thank you so much for explaining the scene. I didn't catch much of the dialogue during the live-stream, only a word or two here and there. Until you sorted it out, I had no idea what was going on.
Dude! Thank you so much for going deep on ALL of this stuff. So much to digest here. I did not even get this stuff in my biblical studies education. Just..thank you.
A premise suggested here is that Jesus had siblings, since the Bible references his “brothers”. This is a misinterpretation of the original Greek word “adelphos”, which in some translations appears as “brethren” or “kinsmen”. While including biological siblings, “adelphos” can also mean extended family, such as cousins or other relatives. A similar situation arises in Genesis 13:8, which uses the term in reference to the relationship between Abram and Lot, who were not biological “brothers”, but uncle and nephew.
James and Jude were the siblings if Jesus who were NOT His fans until after His crucification.. this is apparent in passages that tell of the (his family) calling him out of his head ..
The Scripture of the Lord, by the Holy Spirit revealing, mentions Yeshua (Yesus) having younger brothers at least 6 times in the 4/5 Gospels. Many boys were named with a limited # of Hebrew names like James (Yakov), Shimon, Josef or Joses, Judah/Yudas. If Matthew was written in Hebrew originally and he was there, he would have been spot on.
Re: “The original Greek”, versus the language of the Hebrew men of Israel who wrote in their language? The Greek was the first collected translated attempt of non hebrew Many Bible scholars over hundreds of years stated that Matthew (Mathisyahu) sctibed in the Hebrew -Aramaic language of his day, and quite possibly of other scriptures of the NT by apostles. Each of the 4/5 (with Acts) mentions the family of Jesus, hard to dispute the inspired Word of God. Nowhere do we see God telling Mary & Joseph they’d have a “celibate marriage”- which is not a union in Jewish culture
If two of his brothers were still alive, why did Jesus ask one of his disciples to look after his mother while he was being crucified? I also thought that scene was powerful when he asked where the box was (that held the donkey bridle), and Mary got sad as she realized Jesus was going to die soon. All of his life she knew this was his destiny and she accepted it, but silently lamented that day would come.
When Jesus said “John, behold your mother, mother behold your son”, it was then that Jesus was giving Mary to ALL OF US as our Mother. That was John of Zebedee, not the John being referred to in this “explanation”. Jesus was an only child. Mary was a perpetual virgin. She was immaculate, the vessel of God. Cousins were referred to as “brothers”. This scene was not in the Bible. No proof of biological siblings.
True. He did not address her as mother, but as woman. He was (existed) before she ever lived. As He told the religious leaders, when they said ' your not even 50 years old, and you know our Father Abraham'! He replied ' before Abraham was... I AM. Only God can say that term, and the reason they wanted to stone Him.
He probably wanted to make sure she was taken care of and knew John would allow her to help continue their ministry while her other sons may not had allowed it.
Simple, it’s because Jesus’s brothers prior to and during the crucifixtion did not believe in him and his ministry, as indicated in John 7:3-5 and other places. Therefore, in his dying breaths, Jesus handed responsibility of his mother’s care to his most faithful disciple who was at the foot of the cross, John.
@@sjappiyah4071 good point. I hope folks here realize that we only pray to God the Father. Jesus explained the WAY to Pray...when they asked Him to teach them to Pray..not How to Pray. Dont prayv to ANY human. Mary....Joseph...etc...all humans none divine. Glory to God and not man. Peace

Mary did not have any other children. The word used for brothers in the Gospel is used also for cousins. The reason they would celebrate in another town if because their parents were there.
Brandon, thank you! We are seriously watching The CHOSEN in Bible study. This scene opens up siblings to Jesus. Haven you done a video on where the siblings came from? Mary and Joseph? Joseph previous life? Also, the episode brings in the "halter" . We enjoyed this in discussion. Question for thought is : if there may been other siblings ; what would Jewish culture done on who gets handed down such a family treasure? For the story I get it. I am blessed to have you as a go to. Thank you
The chosen is marvelous production!!! It really gives us a chance to see Jesus in human form as He was God in the flesh!!! But it has given me a closer and more intimate understanding of scripture!!!!
Jesus' siblings were not believers until after the crucifixion and Resurrection. They were not present at the foot of the cross, John was. Also, Jesus knew that John would be the longest living Apostle.
@@pkmcnett5649 wrong "Jesus’ mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood near the cross. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that time on, this disciple took her into his home." John's biological mother was standing right next to the Virgin according to Mark and at the empty tomb. The correct translation for brother is "close relative". Jesus honored the Mother according to the law, we should too. We are the bride and she is the queen mother, full of God's grace and blessed amongst women.
Mary had no other children. This is a misinformation that Protestants insist on. John took care of Mary because she had no other children who would have been obligated to care for her.
@PK McNett doesn't answer the fact that in those days, to deny the care of an elder parent and widow would've been absolutely condemned by everyone. God makes special mention of care for widows, fatherless, sick and the imprisoned, Jesus fulfills all of these perfectly in his personal relationships as well, one perfect example of that is his last proclamation as he slowly dies in his passion. You are distorting his own words to explain it away for a flippant reasoning to justify a breakaway denomination.
Amen! Praise God in your country and spread the good news! Tell everyone to watch the Chosen! I believe it has and will continue to lead others to Christ!
Thank you for sharing about Jewish holiday s and engagement process and family participation as well . And insight to traditions of that era. And still followed today . Round bread and foods that are used as symbolic for the end of the year and beginning a new year. Learning about the culture of Jewish tradition always helpful. Better understanding of people. . Good to know about.
I'm humbled. I never knew the Bible like this. I've studied for years but never was taught these verses the way God meant them to be taught. My mom taught me most of the Bible. However the part of marriage was never mentioned and I wish I would have known. It's beautiful and has a very profound meaning. Two people worshipping God and having commitment through their actions before 💑 the actual marriage ceremony. I'm sure many marriages today would have been saved had this been a part of our lives. I've went to many church's in my life seeking truths. And I'm finding it here. Seek and you shall find truth. The poor shall eat and be satisfied. Those who seek him will praise the Lord. Let your heart live forever.!
According to the Catholic faith, Jesus didn’t have actual siblings- the use of “brother” meant something like us using “bro” today, more of an endearing word meaning dear friend. Those closest to Jesus. Mary didn’t have other children. I believe the Chosen is trying to highlight wonderful traditions of the past. These discrepancies aren’t important- Dallas is clear saying they take creative control to portray how things might have been and some scenes aren’t actual historical happenings. The most important part of the Chosen is to understand the man of Jesus, why he came for us, what that means for our salvation, and how key people like the disciples and apostles were critical in the spread of Christianity and the reason why we are all Christians today. I love seeing the Bible come to life- the Chosen is a beautiful display of what we believe as Christians.
Thank you again for these deeper dives!!! I DID notice the uneasiness when Mary mentioned the brothers not joining them. Your videos are so helpful and educational.

@@BrandonRobbinsMinistry You aren't "teaching" anything. What you are positing is complete hogwash. And you know it. Which makes it even more insidious.
Mary had one son. She did not have other sons or daughters. As you mentioned, generations grew up in Nazareth. Cousins were called brothers due to proximity of all family members, the reliance and love within families who lived and worshipped together from birth to death .
the term “brother” is used to describe Abraham and Lot - who are not biological brothers but are, rather, uncle and nephew. And St. Paul, writing his first letter to the Corinthians (15:6), describes the people who saw Jesus after his Resurrection, including his “brothers”: “Then, he [Jesus] appeared to more than five hundred brothers at the same time, many of whom are with us still, but some have fallen asleep.”
Jesus did not have siblings. We honor Mary the Mother of God as The Blessed Virgin Mary yesterday, today and forever. She is forever full of grace and we like John are all Her children and Jesus our brother. ❤
hmmm... I didn't see the livestream (found this video while searching for it), but I doubt that The Chosen will depict any male relatives of Jesus as being definitely the sons of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph, since Dallas (a practical man) would be aware that this would immediately cause part of his audience to heave a sigh and quit watching because the series had jumped the shark (just as we would if Dallas suddenly married Jesus to St. Mary Magdalene or declared that King David was actually secretly King Saul's son.) Passing male relatives off as older half-brothers, sons of St. Joseph by an earlier marriage of which he is presumably a widower, is technically possible since St. Joseph is not infallibly declared a virgin (some people like to imagine him to be quite old, for which there is no particular evidence other than the whims of artists), but since The Chosen has already depicted him as relatively young (a very reasonable artistic choice) I don't think the timing would work out.
another fun aspect of this "holiday"/ holy day season, is that Rosh Hashana is actually the time of Feast of Trumpets. You see people at Nazareth celebrating that day with the blowing of shofars. Feast of Trumpets kicks off the fall feast season, and shows us the three feasts of the fall (Trumpets, Atonement and Tabernacles) that foreshadow Yeshua fulfilling these feasts in the time to come when he returns, like He already did the spring feasts when he walked out Passover as our Lamb.
If Jesus had brothers (and not cousins - as the church fathers tell us these verses refer to) why at the cross did He give Mary to John to take care of (“woman behold your son, son behold your mother”). All Christian’s believed in the virginity of Mary (even Martin Luther).
I have one question to ask. Do you think Mary knew what Christ was about to go through? When he talked to her at the table and asked about the box, she said I don't think I am ready. Then again at the grave site of Joseph she said it again. She showed so much sorrow. My thoughts were, did she know then that Christ was going to the cross? For me, that increases the pain of her suffering because it shows that she lived with the pain of losing a son and carrying the burden of death on the cross longer. I have a son and if I knew in advance that he was about to sacrifice his life for others in a matter of months that sorrow would be so great.
Mary is the perpetual virgin~ before during and forever after Jesus’ birth. She did not suffer the pains of childbirth because she was conceived without sin.
Can you explain the box with the bridle in it? It is leaving me curious as to it’s relevance in this episode. Thanks, enjoy your videos covering the details.
Id guess the significance is parallism an ancestor used it at flight from egypt. I am guessing it will be used on colt ridden into jersusalem ie as part of process to free people from sin. This is only a guess. I have never heard of the tradition before. I must research more.
@@wool2spin thank you i cant find any references to this as tradition nor can i remember any biblical references. The only other guess i could make that he would pass it down to a spiritual son rather than a biological one but no obvious candidate springs to mind. Just have to wait and see.
@@kwkw5711Do not you know the prophecy that the messiah will ride into Jerusalem on s white donkey? Well, Jesus knew this prophecy and he knew what will happen afterwards.. And his lineage was the lineage from david, also a prophecy out of the bibel.
God the Father made Mary pure, holy and free from original sin. Mary had nothing to do with making Jesus holy, but God wanted a pure vessel to carry His Son. This issue could be debated until eternity! This shouldn’t be a wall between us or get in the way of honoring and praising God the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The devil tries any way he can to split us and divide us. We are all united under the One and Only true God.
I can relate to how Jesus felt about his brothers, it rings so true in my life about my sisters. Thank you so much for your interpretation of that it really touched me in how much Jesus felt what we feel🖤〽️🪶🌹👍
Jesus has no siblings, and Virgin Mary didn’t have any other kids. Old time ago they used to call the cousins like brothers but actually they are from another mother and another father, not from Virgin Mary. Virgin Mary has another little sister and her name is Mary as well because her mother sent virgin Mary to the altar since she was young girl and after that She had another girl and she named her Mary as well and she get married and had sons that’s why they called them brothers because they are Jesus cousins
It has always been assumed that Joseph died. I wondered if Jesus' brothers were angry at Him because He didn't heal him even though He healed others? Lots of questions.
I can’t say enough about how inspirational this program is . The actors are spot on. Good job Dallas and team Chosen!
The Chosen made Yeshua real to me.
You will be ok Michael….

Yeah it makes more sense with historical context of cultural language.
The Gospel of Mark 6:
…hearing him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? 6 And he marveled because of their unbelief.’
That Mary remain a Perpetual Virgin is also supported biblically and culturally at the Crucifixion. If she had other children, she would go live with them after Jesus died on the Cross not John. It is believed Joseph also remained celibate. There is Biblical precedence for this as well.
All this is lost when only read in vernacular translations and changes and customs since 1st century Holy Land.
Actually there is Biblical support that these were relatives not blood brothers and sisters. Please read my longer comment.
Thank you for the correction. Sadly it is far from the only one needed.
A lot of such speculation in these series.
I thought all of the bread was a type of flat bread. I mean I want to eat the braided bread with sesame seeds now, but I don’t have any.

I absolutely agree! Thank for ur comment

Thank you for your insights, Brandon! God bless you!
While there is not doubt that James, Joseph, Simon, and Jude were relatives of Jesus, I believe it is important to note that the Greek word used for brothers, adelphos (singular) or adelphoi (plural), is not restricted to biological brothers as we see in the Septuagint and the New Testament:
“So Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers” (Gen 13:8, NIV; see also 14:12).
@@robertdelisle7309 So well said!!!
Ask God to reveal truth, regardless of what you were taught
Do you know that Jesus was with God in the beginning?
Did you know that Mary was born like any other person was, but Jesus came to earth (the Word became flesh and dwelt amongst us) .
Jesus existed from the beginning, but had to come in the flesh.
He also had to have sinful nature, to be tempted in all ways (yet He did not sin)
If Mary was not like the rest of us, and had no sinful nature, then He could not Redeem us from Sin.

Beautiful Reflection…
Shana Tova, ‘L’shanah tovah tikatev v’taihatem’…..
You are right.
No, he had other siblings.
Yes the are cousins.

“Adelphos” is not used in Genesis so it’s hard to make a correlation. Since Jesus’s brothers are named, it would be appropriate.
So, Mary and Joseph never consummated their marriage? That doesn’t sound quite right to me.
Re: “The original Greek”, versus the language of the Hebrew men of Israel who wrote in their language?
The Greek was the first collected translated attempt of non hebrew
Many Bible scholars over hundreds of years stated that Matthew (Mathisyahu) sctibed in the Hebrew -Aramaic language of his day, and quite possibly of other scriptures of the NT by apostles.
Each of the 4/5 (with Acts) mentions the family of Jesus, hard to dispute the inspired Word of God. Nowhere do we see God telling Mary & Joseph they’d have a “celibate marriage”- which is not a union in Jewish culture
Wow!! Thank you so much! This information has me so excited to keep learning. God bless you
If two of his brothers were still alive, why did Jesus ask one of his disciples to look after his mother while he was being crucified?

Thank you
Thank you for the Ensight. Bless you.
Interesting take on this. Remember people this is an interpretation or an opinion and even a theory. Everyone sees this differently.
The chosen is marvelous production!!! It really gives us a chance to see Jesus in human form as He was God in the flesh!!! But it has given me a closer and more intimate understanding of scripture!!!!
Thank you for this video. Not only the explainer but I actually had a chance to "see" the clip (as European I had no chance to see it live)
I didn't know this. Thank you explaining the Bible in a simple way.
It was not his family that went out to restrain him but ‘His Friends.”
Excellent. Learned a few things watching this. Liked and subscribed!!
Where are these*siblings at the crucifixion and afterwards? Elder parents would live with their children but Mary lives with John the beloved.
Jesus didn’t have actual blood brothers. Close relatives, cousins were considered brothers/sisters during the days of Jesus.
Jesus' siblings were not believers until after the crucifixion and Resurrection. They were not present at the foot of the cross, John was. Also, Jesus knew that John would be the longest living Apostle.

"Jesus’ mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene stood near the cross. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that time on, this disciple took her into his home."
John's biological mother was standing right next to the Virgin according to Mark and at the empty tomb.
Absolutely wonderful to learn from you! Thank you. God bless you
Bardzo was kocham i dziękuję za The Chosen. Proszę zróbcie polskie napisy. Pozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski
Yes please I have family in Poland and I am praying they will see The Chosen and come to Jesus. Thanks for this wonderful experience ❤
I love your breakdowns thank you
According to the Catholic faith, Jesus didn’t have actual siblings- the use of “brother” meant something like us using “bro” today, more of an endearing word meaning dear friend.
You are the light and the salt of the world.
Thank you again for these deeper dives!!! I DID notice the uneasiness when Mary mentioned the brothers not joining them. Your videos are so helpful and educational.
This is too good
Keep digging
Can't wait to see Season 3!!!
Wow. awesome, as usual. Thanks
Hi Brandon, I really love this and look forward to more of your content. But I could not find out any information about you. Maybe I overlooked it, I would be interested to know your connection to the show. Thank you for all you do!❤
Hi, Veronica. I don’t have any official connection to the show. I just teach on things that appear in it and help people dive deeper into the Bible.
If you want to know more about me, there is a section on my website: www.brandonrobbinsministry.com/about
@@BrandonRobbinsMinistry You aren't "teaching" anything. What you are positing is complete hogwash. And you know it. Which makes it even more insidious.
That was pretty cool, thank you (PS LOVE the show)
Mary had one son. She did not have other sons or daughters. As you mentioned, generations grew up in Nazareth. Cousins were called brothers due to proximity of all family members, the reliance and love within families who lived and worshipped together from birth to death .
Thank you @maryjulieharris7827 you are correct. Jesus was Mary's ONLY son, he had no siblings.
the term “brother” is used to describe Abraham and Lot - who are not biological brothers but are, rather, uncle and nephew.
And St. Paul, writing his first letter to the Corinthians (15:6), describes the people who saw Jesus after his Resurrection, including his “brothers”: “Then, he [Jesus] appeared to more than five hundred brothers at the same time, many of whom are with us still, but some have fallen asleep.”
Thanks for ur videos they help me alot
I hope u do more beyond the words I like taking notes on those
That quote from Jesus; a prophet is not accepted in his own home is true even to this day.
Thank God for your life and may God continue to bless you in all aspects of your life.
Love your explanations! Thank you for your indepth revelations! 🙏✝️💗
I love how you explain each episode backed by the Bible.
Jesus did not have siblings. We honor Mary the Mother of God as The Blessed Virgin Mary yesterday, today and forever. She is forever full of grace and we like John are all Her children and Jesus our brother. ❤
Your knowledge of Jew's culture is deep and you're using it make us understand the Chosen and enjoy it more, thanks so much
Anyone else giggle when Jesus addressed his pet sheep named Cain and Able?
Nice thanks for these points 🎉
Mary is the perpetual virgin~ before during and forever after Jesus’ birth. She did not suffer the pains of childbirth because she was conceived without sin.
Very helpful Brandon. Thank you.
@@kwkw5711 I watched the Aftershow for episode 3 this morning and now realize the significance will be revealed in a later episode.
@@wool2spin thank you i cant find any references to this as tradition nor can i remember any biblical references. The only other guess i could make that he would pass it down to a spiritual son rather than a biological one but no obvious candidate springs to mind. Just have to wait and see.
@@wool2spin Jesus rode the donkey through the town.
@@kwkw5711Do not you know the prophecy that the messiah will ride into Jerusalem on s white donkey? Well, Jesus knew this prophecy and he knew what will happen afterwards.. And his lineage was the lineage from david, also a prophecy out of the bibel.
Thank you for another great video
God the Father made Mary pure, holy and free from original sin. Mary had nothing to do with making Jesus holy, but God wanted a pure vessel to carry His Son. This issue could be debated until eternity! This shouldn’t be a wall between us or get in the way of honoring and praising God the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. The devil tries any way he can to split us and divide us. We are all united under the One and Only true God.
Thank you for this
If they are His bio brothers please tell me the word for cousin. Mary has one son. No need to add what isn't there.
Always so well done. Thank you again
Love your commentary... bless you brother.
I would like to have a copy of your booklet mentioned here! Add me to your group. What a blessing! Ina South Africa.
I can relate to how Jesus felt about his brothers, it rings so true in my life about my sisters. Thank you so much for your interpretation of that it really touched me in how much Jesus felt what we feel🖤〽️🪶🌹👍
Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️🙏
Jesus has no siblings, and Virgin Mary didn’t have any other kids.
Thank you for this updater,God Bless you.
It has always been assumed that Joseph died. I wondered if Jesus' brothers were angry at Him because He didn't heal him even though He healed others? Lots of questions.
That’s a very interesting theory, I’ve never thought of that.
