One of the details in Neal Illustrator's God Games is when Athena is walking through the hall of statues at the beginning, one of the statues is Zeus holding baby Athena, forshadowing how he is holding her at the end of the song.
The small detail that I absolutely love in Gigi's We'll be fine animatic is that the portrait of Odysseus with Penelope and Telemachus has the exact same composition as the one figuring Hector and his family in her Just a man animatic. I like to think about it as some kind of mandatory portrait all royal families must do at the birth of their kids.
The thing with Calypso (specifically Epic Calypso) is that she is a very sympathetic character, she was inprisoned on this island for probably hundreds of years with no contact with anyone god or mortal. So yes she is very lonely, so as soon as she gets the chance to talk to anyone she will fall for them, most likely she has hyped up the thoughts of love and connection so much that even if she wasnt actually "in love" with Ody, she would act that way. BUT that does not make Ody's situation better, just because Calypso has her own trauma does not give her the right to push into Ody's boundries. She is a much better person in Epic but she still treats Odysseus like a toy or a pet, constantly telling him he's "hers", not listening to him talking about his wife, talking about taking him to bed. Even at the end of Love in paradise Ody is just asking to be left alone and she still is trying to comfort him by saying at least she loves him, she will keep him safe, he can just live here with her, not listening to him AT ALL and making it all about her (even if she's trying her best, it's not at all what he needs and she's spent 7 years with him, you'd think she'd get a clue). It's awful for her I can understand, imagine thinking that FINALLY, after YEARS, you can have SOMEONE with you, but they don't want you. There is a person right there on your island but you're still lonely, but Ody is also lonely and traumatised and at his breaking point and Calypso isn't what he wants or needs. (OG Calypso can rot tho, she gets no sympathy from me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
As reprehensible as OG Calypso is, one has to remember that she was actively cursed to fall in love with anyone who washed up on Ogygia, and that those people would always leave her. This also happened several times, at least, by the time Odysseus showed up. So, still vile, but also sympathetic to a degree.
@@Iterator_NSH that curse was made up for Percy Jackson as an explanation for why she thinks she's in love with people she just met, when the earliest known explanation is literally just "of course you think you're in love with someone you just met when you've been alone for centuries, you're touch starved".
@@runedoom I also seem to recall that the part about many people passing through her island and leaving by the time Odysseus arrived is also false, though my memory may be failing me.
oh you would love six so much. also in god games there’s a small little easter egg at 17:53, the tree is Daphne, and the flowers are Hyacinths. Daphne is one of his previous…lovers? kind of? who turned into a tree to escape him, and Hyacinthus is one of his genuine lovers who died when zephyr, one of the wind gods, causing a discus that Apollo had thrown to hit him, killing him. Apollo turned his corpse into the first Hyacinths.
To be fair, the curse supposedly prevents anyone coming to or leaving the island if that is their intention. It would've been difficult for Odysseus to leave even with Calypso's compliance.
12:54 Calypso can't let Odysseus leave its not her choice. When she said no one can come or go that includes her. The island is her prison and only other gods that aren't imprisoned would be able to free her or Odysseus
and in the og its described "an unwilling lover with a lover all too willing" between him and calypso letting him leave wasnt up to calypso, shes trapped there just as much as he is; it was up to Zeus. Hes the one who trapped Calypso there. You can hear the danger motif as hes standing on the edge cause hes in danger of ending his own life. The end of the fight between athena and zeus comes to a desperate daughter begging for mercy on behalf of a friend from her father
So, Calypso kinda can’t let Odysseus go. The island of Ogygia is her prison, punishment for being a Daughter of Atlas and in turn an enemy of the Olympians during the Titanomachy. It’s kinda not within her power to let him go, only the Gods do, since he just so happened to wash up on shore and enter Calypso’s prison. I also may be fucking up my Greek Mythology, so if you do know better, correct me
No you are pretty accurate. She was very unfairly imprisoned and has been like that since the war with the Titans ended. Only other gods can easily remove someone from that island
I haven't searched about Calypso's story but I mean- I want to 'cause she seems like a very complex character with her own story who just happens to get the worst of herself shown on a more popular story of someone else and sadly she only did wrong in it and I believe she never got to get better? idk I've only read tiktok comments, but omg I love the song, I love the voice, everythng
10:15 I believe another reactor made reference it sounds like "Get Down" from Six And I believe Teagan (Athena's Singer) if not wrote Six, has connections to the writers, but I forget how much
It is hard to be a lesbian with so many beautiful women in epic, but I must endure. Seriously though, Athena has been my fictional crush for years. I think you reacted to the best version of god games, at least my favorite animatic
The other detail that I love, on Neal's God games anmatic this time, is that every damage that Athena does to the gigantic cloud form of Zeus actually reflects on his real body. If you take a close look you can see that at the end of the animatic with the hug, he has scars on his left arm and his face.
@artemisfowl7332 yeah, and she doesn't force people to stay in the Percy Jackson series. She even held back from offering the option to stay with her for a little bit, trying to avoid falling in love again. I'm trying to remember if she said anything negative towards Annabeth. Maybe it was how she was towards Leo in the beginning?
Whenever you do get the chance to watch the Vengeance Saga, could you watch the stream version? I'm pretty sure Jorge is leaving those up now. He split it into two parts this time, the Vengeance Saga being in the second part.
Neal’s God Games is stellar. Love the detail of Athena and Zeus having similar smiles and the exact same wild hair.
same goes for Ares and Apollo with the smile at least
I just realize at 18:08, the tree had human silhouette because a lot of Apollo's lover turned into trees or flower when they died

I love Neal
Calypso: last o checked goddesses can't die
Odysseus: exactly (draws sword)
"This is why mortals had problems, okay??" I'm dying. 😂
For real though
Everything is so messed up about Ody's whole situation

@@runedoom Ah. Suppose that's what I get for relying on memory alone, thank you for the correction.

Cursed Calypso, I can symphatize on, not-cursed Calypso has no excuse. being lonely doesn't discount your unsavory behavior....
Goodness the Wisdom Saga is already a month old!
Can’t wait to see animatics for the Vengeance Saga and your reaction!!
2 month old actually
Fun fact Calypso is also stuck there just like Odysseus when she says no one can come or go she also means herself
oh you would love six so much.

"I'm not going to simp this time"
Simps even harder than last time XD
It does luckily seemed that in Epic the whole Circe and Calypso thing was changed
The way you're falling for so many characters.
Start singing "I'm just a gal"
Awesome reaction! Can’t wait to see you react to the Vengeance Saga (hopefully the livestream)! It was amazing!!
"They oculd have been good friends" Okay so now I HAVE to write fanfiction for this idea

Love to see you reacting to the rest of the series animatics. Also, damn girl. Good luck with your basketball games. Please take care!

@ sick. Thanks, dude
Will be watching this right after the next saga's live stream ends

I recommend Duvetbox's Legendary and Little Wolf animatics :) they're so cool

Heeey love your reactions for reacting like all the fandom at seeing the animatics or songs peace and love for you
Also, out of curiosity, what's the beef with Calypso specifically in Percy Jackson? It's been a little bit since I've read Battle of the Labyrinth.
And honestly Rick riordan makes calypso more sympathetic by making it so she's also cursed too fall in love with the people that enter her island
