I love this guy's reaction and his respect for this guy's skills. He's not one of these purists who acts as if you're not playing the actual instrument it doesn't count. Props to him for that.
The difference is this finger drummer has soul in his drumming. Most machine purists are playing music lego.

@@paulosilva8200 That's really not a helpful comment. We're just talking about drumming on pads here. There's no need to crap on other genres of music because you think they're more "legit." You can use electronic drums in your music. It's ok. You can use an amp modeler for your guitar without ever hooking it up to a real amp. That's ok too. If it sounds good, it's good. People can make music however they want - even if it's different from how you make music.

I had the great pleasure to work as a sound engineer for a band where David plays drums. He is so precise and groovy and a great human being. The finger drumming is so awesome but make sure to see and hear him on real drums too...

Finger drumming! Didn’t know other people played like that! I used to play the Roland Hand Sonic HPD-15 with my fingers. Played in a trip hop band for a few years in NYC. Very cool; awesome skills!
He is actually a left handed drummer who sets his kit up like a right handed drummer. This gives him much more freedom and range while playing. It is a sight to see as well.

What always gets me about keyboard and finger drummers is how they're able to use ghost notes, how is that even possible?!
Velocity sensitive pads. If youre referring the persons technique. Just practicing dynamics
@@radbradmusicartist Wasn't the 2nd square at the top the pad for the ghost notes and the one beside it is the regular snare hit (counting from left to right)? I think the velocity sensitivity will only determine the volume of the snare hit and it will not create ghost notes.
Edit: by top I meant from our POV, not the drummer's.
@@lazydog5065 Depends if he uses samples or a plugin for his drums. Being an MPC it's probably samples but on plugins velocity will change the character of the drum hits you play
The ghost notes are velocity sensitive, which can be programmed with any sound you put into these pads. Tale as old as time

No way this guy isn’t an actual drummer himself!😂 He definitely gets the instrument in the way it sounds and how you approach it. If he isn’t an actual drummer he clearly put in the work to know how drums should sound when you play them. It’s scary how good VSTs are now but in order to get the VSTs to actually sound dam near the real thing then you either gotta be a player of the instrument or put the work in to actually understand how the instrument reacts and know how to program it accordingly. Either way if you know what your doing and you go against the grain a bit and sound different then everyone else then that’s great in my book.

Absolutely love this. Since I saw 'Finger' Haynes on a NAAM video playing I had to get a kit. I'm. a guitarist but I got a Presonus Atom & with a bit of effort it's not too hard to get some decent rhythms going, but nothing like the above of course! I've just spent an evening messing about with Logic Pro transformation objects and scripts, so now I have a keyboard sustain pedal mapped to the kick drum and the keyboard footswitch mapped to the closed hi-hat. Now, to say it's fun would be understatement of the year! 😁

Check out the Zendrum, my old bass players father invented it and the "drummer" for Bella Fleck and the Flecktones uses one along with his drumtar.
It is an awesome trigger board that you use a strap to hold it sort of like a guitar.
10 years ago I would also be impressed... but nowadays there are so many talented folks out there.

It makes sense that this works pretty well. You now have 6 to 8 limbs easily and the movements are very small, so can be very fast. Bouncing and dynamics are hard I think.
