For the frame drops with the torches I have a tip: There is a graphics setting called Light Shadows that produces shadows from lighting objects like torches. It is incredible GPU heavy, I recommend turning it off ASAP if you ever want to light up your base.
Tier 4 at the start of the research line is the better guns, bottom left at the start of the line also I think Tier 3 has the auto pistol but tier 4 Hunting rifle and Trench shotgun are the best. you should have captured a second horse and saddled both of them for better carrying and speed so you can ride together, dont forget to use the talent points on the horses for better results.
Comment: why are you not collecting the bones of the animals you kill? you will need a sht load of bone to make epoxy resin later for your electrics and other fun stuff.
