The male vocals heard on "Beauty and the Beast", "The Carpenter", "Astral Romance" and "Once Upon a Troubadour" are sung by keyboardist-band leader Tuomas Holopainen, as well as the whispers in the beginning of the demo version of "Etiäinen".[10] Following this release, Holopainen never sang credited on an album again, because he thought that he was not good enough.

Angels fall first is Nightwish's first album. In fact, it is a demo that was released as an album. Marco was not yet part of the band. He only joined the group in the fourth album (Century Child). The man singing with Tarja is Tuomas.

    Male vocals are from Tuomas.
And Emppu was a busy man back then, as he played ALL the guitar parts including the bass.

All the female vocals are Tarja's, all the male vocals on the album are by...tchananan....Tuomas himself! This album is from 1996 and Marco got in the band in 2001. This album and this song in particular have a really great vibe of old Amorphis, anothet finnish band ( notably from two albums: Tales from the Thousand Lakes and Elegy).

Good to see you back! Good to see some classic Nightwish too. Fans that don't like the new sound can just go listen to the old albums or any of the other bands that have taken up the style that Nightwish no longer produces. What a simple solution! Here's to many more videos without copyright strikes...woohoo! Cheers!

I don't understand the hate either. I feel that all of the singers did a great job and each brought something different to Nightwish. If you look at their work as you would 'The Rose', with Bette Middler and Janis Joplin, both are completely different and both are beautiful. I have several different versions of Nightwish songs in my playlist, and I enjoy them all equally. You can just listen to whichever one makes you happiest and the problem is solved.

Times when guitar by Emppu is clear and bright...and in a big role. I like this era because of that but naturally new songs are great. No Marco at this time yet. NW was Tuomas, Emppu, Tarja (the founding members) and Jukka. Emppu did bass and a guest bassist at concerts. Tuomas is singing the male voice truly. Troy, Anette and Floor did know nothing about this band at this time yet. Marco and Kai did though. Yes..they have been and are amazing for sure.

I like the other version of Astral romance more. In like 2001 Tarja and Nightwish did another version with another male singer and it had some different lyrics and a reworked guitar solo check that one out too.

Comparing Jukka with Kai is like trying to compare Jon Bonham with Ian Paice - all superb drummers, different strengths and style! :-)
    There's a
'remake' of Astral Romance on Nightwish's 'Over the Hills and Far Away EP,' with Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica on male vocals.
Thank you for the reaction, I enjoy all eras of Nightwish, each singer / musician brings their own 'colour' / 'flavour' to the songs :-)

The album "Angels Fall First" was released in November 1997. This song is from that album.
But before that there was already an album released in the spring (7 songs, same title) and this song was already on that album. Only 500 editions of this album were taken and it is a collectible rarity today !!!
The album featured Tuomas Holopainen - keyboards, piano and vocals, Jukka Nevalainen - drums and percussion, Tarja Turunen - vocals, Emppu Vuorinen - electric guitar, acoustic guitar and bass.

Something different, i click. On this album there was actually no Marco OR Sami. Emppu played the bass.
I think it's WAY more heavy the other way, "fans" for whom the older stuff might as well not exist, and they go as far as to try to steer reaction channels away from anything before 2013. I rarely see anything the way you described, unless i go to a cesspool like Blabbermouth which is pure toxicity.
They re-recorded this in 2001, an it's believed the lyrics were for Tarja (as many of the early lyrics possibly were), and in the 2001 version some of the lyrics were rewritten because his prospects with Tarja had taken a turn (she hooked up with Marcelo). Opinions will differ on this of course.

Thanks for the great review! I wasn't familiar with this song, and it's awesome. And, I like the "new" Nightwish just as much as the "old" Nightwish. Every band evolves, and if they don't, they become stale.
I don't know about other people, but if I hear music that I like in review channels, I purchase it for my libraries. Other people add it to their platform playlists, like Spotify. Both of these ways makes money for the artists. In short, it is a form of advertising for the artists. And, if a review channel is not monetized, then why should they care? This makes no sense to me.

This is another song that Floor can bring to another level... as the majority of the old songs, in my opinion. I'm a listener of Nightwish since the very beggining, loved the music, but my preference back in the days was Within Temptation due the better vocals from Sharon, again it's my opinion, however after Floor... I feel that Nightwish became one of the best metal bands nowadays.

On one hand, some people don't like the band's new stuff and are stuck in the past, that is true; on the other hand, there are tons of people commenting on the internet who only like Nightwish with Floor, and dismiss everything that came before. For those people, mostly new fans (and more Floor fans than Nightwish fans, in my opinion), it's like it was Floor who made Nightwish great, while Nightwish had already been an amazing and successful band for decades before Floor. Personally, I find that way more annoying.
Just my 0.2 cents and something that has been bugging me for some time.

    • @JayTor2112
      @JayTor2112 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I don't need to add any more to that. I'm one of the newer fans too. I consider myself a Nigthwish "fan", not a member of the "army". The "army" seems to be more of a Floor army, and try to keep rectors away from anything else. They never tire of watching reactions to the same performances for the 500th time. I can't do it anymore.

Olly, suggestion, would you make this song a reaction video? Shortly before Nightwish 1996 ...
At the age of 18, Emppu Vuorinen composed the song "Karelian Night". Here he plays it together with Jukka Nevalainen, drums (18 years) and Sami Vänskä, bass (20 years). He was a good guitarist even then!
