  • This might be my weirdest video yet. But you'll still learn something about genetics. We're talking about some of the crazy stuff that happens when we produce an all white (or mostly white) snakes. Blue eyed lucys, black eyed lucys, ivorys and some other weird non-white ball pythons.

      Be glad you're not in DFW today. It snowed here for the first time this winter last night. Our house's heater has just zapped my balls' humidity so I added damp moss and coconut fiber to their tanks, filled up their water bowls and turned their humidifiers up all the way for 15 minutes every hour and their humidity is still at 30% ☹️ I used a temp gun and they're at 85°F each but it's so dry. I've even taped off the screen with HVAC tape where the CHE's aren't. Any suggestions to help boost their humidity? ☹️

      all babies would be black pastel and mojave. thick yellow dorsal stripe, lots of fading up the sides, distorted alien heads, deep rich black coloration on the dorsal

    So a super fire do not mix well with other morphs, except: albino(red eye), scaleless head(missing some scale on the hed), scaleless(missing scale completely), microscale(missing scale on the head, collors and pattern, ...) and super microscale(missing scale completely, collor and pattern.) and chimera(lucky if you get one)
    So it is a end of line breeding in terms of morph to be visible?

    • @GreenRoomPythons

      For most lucistic snakes, yes. There could be certain genes that interact with the snake to do something else but generally the white morph combo covers everything

    • @GreenRoomPythons
      @GreenRoomPythons  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, both of those combos would make a whiter snake than an ivory. Ivory's are usually sort of dirty white and they have that yellow stripe on their back. You'll make some really nice white snakes!

    Hello Bob you videos are so well done sir. So I have a video idea for you. Why not talk about the different nutritional values of rats, mice, ASF, chicks, Quail and reptile links. Anything that I missed? Rabbits? Guinea pigs?
    You have a few different species of snakes to talk about with the different nutrition also. Which is interesting.
    Why I say this is for ball pythons as a pet when they get to adult it would be nice to see how feeding different pray would be for health and weight management.

    I don't know much about the Russo genre in the BEL complex, but, in my opinion, the combos with Butter/Lesser make the "whitest" snakes. The super Butter /Lesser are stark white but tend to have small eyes (as someone else mentioned), with Mojave they are pure white with normal eyes. Then, the super Mojave are all white but with a grayish colored head.

    • @GreenRoomPythons

    • @GreenRoomPythons

      Yeah, Paradox just refers to anything that pops up visually on a snake that you can't attribute to a specific morph. It's a randomly occurring change of color and/or pattern usually just in small areas of the animal. I have a freeway girl with some really cool paradoxing on her :-)

    As for the whitest BEL, I believe most people will say it’s Super Lessers or possibly the Mojave - Lessers.
    I have a Super Lesser BEL and she’s just as pure white as can be unless she’s getting closer to her shed cycle and then she gets that dingy yellow look up through the cycle completion.

    Just for those of you not aware, the drive from Burbank to the more inhabited parts of Utah is ten to fourteen hours in the car IF you don't hit Vegas at the wrong time. : D
    (the amount of planning that went into shooting this- Man that is IMPRESSIVE. Filmmaking isn't easy!)
    I could contest that my Finnley is the Whitest Snek, as an individual- He's a Super Fire Black Eyed Lucy and the only color on him is milk white splotches against snow white, and they're only visible at certain points during his growth-and-shed cycle. Sometimes they aren't there at all. But of course, I might be a leeeetle biased! hahah.

    Great video, Bob. I've heard of tons of genes and morphs but I only know what a handful of them look like. I wish there was a video that names the genes then showed snakes or pics of snakes and explained what the genes were doing to the appearance, and it would just go through a buttload of genes. A good video series like that would probably get a ton of views. BTW, I'm worried about this channel's impact on the environment

    • @GreenRoomPythons
      @GreenRoomPythons  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes this video had quite a larger carbon footprint than normal! That is a good idea for video series. There was a guy who was doing videos like that but he's not on TH-cam anymore. There are still videos out there from him but a lot of the information is questionable. That would be a super helpful series though.

    8:30 Technically, you *can* have three copies of an allele (or only one), but only if you have a chromosome anomaly. For example, people with Down Syndrome have three copies of every gene on chromosome 21, and therefore could have three distinct alleles for any of those genes. Now, Down Syndrome is a big chromosome anomaly affecting lots of genes, and has pretty obvious effects (at least if it's non-mosaic), but you can also have smaller ones that only affect part of a chromosome, and those can be harder to detect. There are people who've grown up just feeling a bit different, maybe having some learning difficulties or minor physical issues that went unexplained, and then someday they happen to get a genetic test and discover they have a small chromosome anomaly. In an animal, you'd probably never spot these milder anomalies phenotypically. But for the most part, it's safe to assume most animals you're breeding don't have a chromosome anomaly.

    • @GreenRoomPythons
      @GreenRoomPythons  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, but definitely did not have time In this video to get into all the possible abnormalities that could happen ;-)

    This was hilarious. Russo and lesser tend to make the whitest snakes. Super lessers can also make snakes with larger or smaller than normal eyes, leaa frequently with super russos. If you outcross that snake so it's not the zame gene, the eyes tuen back to normal looking. As far as we know, that doesn't cause the snake any discomfort, it's just visual. With the yb complex, specter is there 1 gene that can be distinguished in single gene form.
