    ► Today, I go over four of my favourite techniques for weathering your scale trucks. I really enjoy the weathering process as it really makes a truck look as realistic as possible. Rarely do we see showroom shine out on the trails! These techniques work best on hard body builds, but can be adapted to Lexan shells, provided they are painted on the outside. Everything featured here is easy enough for anyone to try, give it a go!

    With the sophisticated finishes, can you thin out the metal paint and let it run down the body before applying the rusting agent?
    I have a blazer body that has seen lots of use that I now want to add weathering to.

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. The rust effect will take longer to activate if you thin it out.

    So whats wrong with just using that Iron based paint as an primer coat under a paint job and just let it get all of it scratches naturally? Would it still come through alright without the vinegar penetrating the paint afterward?

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's best to activate it first to start the process. Not sure it would get enough penetration otherwise.

    I’ve looked through the comments and I can’t seem to find the answer..... on a polycarbonate body, can you paint it with the "metal effects" iron paint? Does it stick? Does it chip off like regular latex paint? I am trying to do a cool ARRMA Infraction body... any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’ll chip off of lexan, yes. Unless you paint it on the outside and start with a layer or two of PS spray. Even then, I wouldn’t trust it to stick for long.

    My first RC truck had an extremely ugly body, and color. I hated it. I decided the only recourse was to make it even uglier. I didn't have any paint, but I had a bunch of felt markers, and a lot of time on my hands. I so "drew" the rust and grime on the seams around windows, doors, hood, etc. It took me about two weeks, but I had nothing better to do. Using yellows, browns, reds, and black (which I quickly wiped most of it off with a damp paper towel). In the end I was was quite happy with the results. Three years later it looks even better (or worse, as the case may be) with all the scratches from use and abuse.

    trying the iron file paint technique (the product you use is not available to me, but other iron file base paint is). when i apply the vinigar it will rust a bit, then when i put a layer or 2 of paint over it and sand it down a bit then reapply the vinigar it seems not to rust, It seems only to leave rings and marks of where the vinigar was (water rings most likely) any tips or pointer as to what i might do wrong?

    Some cool tips, thanks. Going to try some of these on my crawlers. I find it a bit confusing though when you keep saying "sort of" and "kind of". When you say something like "you sort of brush it on" or "you kind of brush it on" is that different but similar to brushing it on? -- I usually paint my bodies with a different color under coat so when it gets scrapes during actual use, the scrapes show up better. Like silver under coat so the deep scrapes look like bare metal. One of my rigs I used 3 color layers; a rust color, black, then finally white. Light scrapes the black shows through. Heavy scrapes the rust color shows through.

    About to paint my first body, the Axial Jeep Cherokee and this video (amazing) left me with a few questions. What would the order of operations be for painting up a brand new clear body? Paint the underside first and then apply the weathering to the top of the body? Paint the entire body on the top side laying down your base coats first and then applying weathering? I'm used to painting miniatures but there isn't a concept of an under and a top side so this is what left me a little confused.
