This was a really good video. I have a Leatherman Wave that I modified and carried for 10 years as my main pocket knife. I've found that the main blade isn't the best. Swapped it out for the s30v. Removed the scissors for smaller flat heads for gun work. I miss the scissors now for fishing and outfitting slingshots. All in all, I think the Wave is the way to go. I've moved on to a Swiss army knife for edc and kicked back the Leatherman for fishing.
That’s the one thing that’s bothering me- the smaller flathead for gun work… A micro bit kit would be useful as well.. Maybe it’s time for a “mini” Multitool build…
Ok when I saw that at Georgia bushcraft I was a little envious. I usually just carry the wingman. I have two of those and two 300’s never entered my mind to do any modifications to get what I wanted but they aren’t cheap to begin with. Now I’m gonna be mad at myself for not spending the cash. Thanks JJ 🤨
It’s far more likely that you would catch me outside my house without my wallet than ever catching me without my Leatherman 👍 Leatherman should offer a custom shop it really wouldn’t be that hard if assembly was left up to the end user 👍
"To each - Their Own" ! I've had Leathermans for about 40 years'! In all that time I've added 2 mods that "I" deamed worthwhile to me. I cut a small notch in the topside of my serated blade to act as a hook for snaging elecrtical wires that fell back into the wall or similar. I ground a sharp edge on the cruved edge on the back of the can opener IF I ever wanted to carve a spoon. I carry my Letterman and a few dozen other "things/tools" in my Nite Ize POCK-ITS. Some day I'll post a few pics on my TH-cam page.
Cool! I will figure out the curved blade thing one of these days. I like your mods. Mike Simmons did a similar mod as you on his SAK- he made a 90 degree on the can opener so he could strike a ferro rod with it. I really enjoy people sharing their mods so thanks for posting 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
I've got the same problem as many. I used certain tools and don't use others, but the biggest issue in the UK, is, it has to be a non locking blade of 3 inches or less.
@@brushbum7508I’ve heard that from multiple people.. This largely fueled the build itself- needed the best from the earlier generations for the same reason.. In some cases, they have gone downhill.. Thanks for the conversation and stay safe and have a good night as well 🔥
Been Rocking my Gerbers since 1999. Proven to be the best M4&240B tool in a clutch for me. I preferred the Needlenoses but have both. Being able to 1 handedly slide them out and close them was key. Perfect for rapidly extracting swollen brass from M4s and would snap a link from a belt fed running away without you loosing any skin.
That's a pretty cool multi tool! I still rock my classic Leatherman I was issued by the Air Force in 1992. Carry it everyday. I have a small ranch and a multi tool is a must. I did something similar a few years ago. Loved it but then I lost the tool. Last year I came across the Signal for $50 new/used. It's almost perfect for me❤️
I am a wave plus kinda guy. The tiny screwdriver/Phillips I have used on many occasion. The only true mod that I have done on it is I put a slight concave on the flathead screwdriver and sharpened it to allow me to carve out spoons and other such things much easier.

Love seeing other Leatherman builds. The Core side is a superb idea. I also built up a Surge, used a fixed saw off a wave+, made a custom bit for the bit driver- a combination chisel and gouge (that I use often- the gouge is worth having), did away with the serrated, also made a small knife blade for the small tool end using a flat screwdriver as a starting point. I wish Leatherman would listen to the customers and make a “bushcraft” Surge. Ive seen a bunch of Surge builds and most incorporate the same list of elements, we all check the boxes using different methods. Great build, hopefully the 390 blade is a winner.
Super cool! Thanks for posting your build- love seeing others make it their own.. Love what you did there. I think the idea of a “bushcraft” Surge is a novel idea..
