I’m a recent fan, coming to The La’s through TSG only followed by a Gallagher recommended 😎 I’ve completely fallen for these songs, and have irked my whole family by my obsessive playing of this & other gigs. Each to their own decisions but, for me, it’s definitely in my top five songs I’ve ever heard. Thank you hugely 🤗

Who knows, gonna likely need to wait until Netflix or Amazon makes a doc about the topic once 'There She Goes' blows up again, possibly when some movie/streamer series or TikTok gives it a warranted boost.

I can’t believe what I’ve just seen. A band at the height of their powers. This particular line up, Lee had them tight. It’s Johnny Cash’s rhythm section, 13th Floor Elevator reverberating lead guitar sonics, Everly Brothers vocals, Zen lyrics, maritime moody mersey magic. They were seriously underrated and caricatured at the time if I remember rightly, or at least under appreciated. Every detail would have been down to Lee Mavers or needed him to be into it, Cammy’s guitar lines, Neil’s sharp skiffly snare, John’s harmonies, lack of cymbals. Sometimes the best bands need a deep solo vision. Rhythmically no one could touch them, The Stone Roses had Reni/Mani but that was somewhere completely different, in 1991 it seemed most music was rhythmically pretty straight (indie dance farm mock turtles mondays candyflip) to a 14 year old weeks away from buying his first NME and learning about things a bit looser, anyway. This is the first time I’ve thought Mavers was right to be pissed off at the sound of the album, if this is what he wanted. @@liborsionkoIt kind of says it all about Oasis that people can’t stop mentioning them in the comments of other bands. Did they release a record as good as The La’s? No but they were one of the best British rock bands of the last generation and certainly the biggest.
Buuuuurrrned by the twentieth century.. Thank you Lee, I will never tire of listening to these songs. I wonder which ones he liked best?, TSG, SOAG, TM and Calling All for me.
My favourite song, that. Another brilliant line: “He was born to live like a mercenary; personally, I think that’s fine, if you’re in the right mind”. How he slickly weaves the music & lyrics on SOAG is just spellbinding, I find.
I happened to hear them live in Paris in 1990 : they were "opening" for the Stone Roses in a festival - I adored The SR, but fell instantly in love with The La's ! I remember me thinking they were giving me the opportunity to "timetravel" to The Cavern at the beginning of the 60s... Pure Liverpudlian magic ! One of the most underrated bands ever for sure.
@@ScottishTeeVee Saw them supporting Elvis Costello, early 1991 in Los Angeles. I'm from Merseyside, and I noticed some lads in the bar before the gig who definitely weren't locals! Turns out it was mates, management and the like having a pint before they went on.
@@markwhite5656ey Mark! Which gig in LA? I saw EC so many times but not with the La's. I saw Sam Phillips open for him at the Wiltern, I think that was 91 but could be wrong. Hope you see this!
Saw them about three maybe even four years before this at International 1 in Manchester. Almost identical setlist, identical sound, identical clothes even. Mavers was one hell of a songwriter and performer but he was clearly stuck in a massive creative rut for years. He hadn’t written anything new for donkeys and was flogging the same dead horse as others passed him by
Some people have just got one album's worth of great songs.. it took him 5 years, multiple attempts and a million pounds of the labels money to put out an album he then disowned because it still didn't sound right. He wasn't right in the head.
Many people would only have heard the songs from their album but they had so many great songs that didn't make the album along with b-sides and some songs that were never even recorded properly. Check out these songs on TH-cam : Fishing Net Tears in the rain Callin all I am the key Raindance Man I'm only human Endless Our time All by myself Who knows. I've heard some say that Lee Mavers has songs that only a lucky few people have ever heard and they're as good as any of the songs on the album. Noel Gallagher says that Mavers had enough great songs hidden away that could fill two great albums. They could have been one of the biggest bands of all time but sadly Lee hated the music industry and wasn't really into the fame side of it.
I don't blame him for hating the music industry tbh. Look at Judee Sill, Another talented person who was essentially thrown to the wayside cause she wasn't palpable enough for mainstream radio. Thank God we have what we have of hers, but Judee deserves better.

@@edwardmulholland7912 put it up mate that would be boss , no recordings of that one
I’ll have a look for it
This...this is indescribably necessary right now. In a divisive time there is always something to remind us of potential. The La’s do that for me.
I agree with you, I’ve been listening to new music I missed during the fraudemic 😎
I first heard them in 1991, never stopped, the band Oasis wanted to be.
There was a braincell deficit though sadly
@@liborsionkoIt kind of says it all about Oasis that people can’t stop mentioning them in the comments of other bands.
Did they release a record as good as The La’s? No but they were one of the best British rock bands of the last generation and certainly the biggest.
@@tomben6180 What it 'kind of says' is something lamentable about success relative to talent.
this band is surely missed
What a band. I saw them on this tour. I was 15. I still remember how good it was.
Lucky
I’d give my full set of limbs to have been at this gig
Thanks for watching and commenting Chad.
Thanks for watching and sharing the memories
@@ScottishTeeVee Saw them supporting Elvis Costello, early 1991 in Los Angeles. I'm from Merseyside, and I noticed some lads in the bar before the gig who definitely weren't locals! Turns out it was mates, management and the like having a pint before they went on.
@@markwhite5656ey Mark! Which gig in LA? I saw EC so many times but not with the La's. I saw Sam Phillips open for him at the Wiltern, I think that was 91 but could be wrong. Hope you see this!
The best band of the 1990’s.🙏♥️🎼.x

The La’s were phenomenal, glad you liked it all the way from your amazing country 🇯🇵.
Gracias por compartir!
love love love this album!!!
Saw them about three maybe even four years before this at International 1 in Manchester. Almost identical setlist, identical sound, identical clothes even. Mavers was one hell of a songwriter and performer but he was clearly stuck in a massive creative rut for years. He hadn’t written anything new for donkeys and was flogging the same dead horse as others passed him by
You were lucky to have seen them so early on
Some people have just got one album's worth of great songs.. it took him 5 years, multiple attempts and a million pounds of the labels money to put out an album he then disowned because it still didn't sound right. He wasn't right in the head.
Incredible.
Just missing "Timeless Melody".
Criminally underrated and under-recorded bands of the 90's: The La's and Jellyfish. Sometimes the best things don't last, sadly.
Yup, Loved them both. Saw Jellyfish in 1990 in Dallas Tx, great show !
A genius.
This is wonderful
Many people would only have heard the songs from their album but they had so many great songs that didn't make the album along with b-sides and some songs that were never even recorded properly. Check out these songs on TH-cam :
Fishing Net
Tears in the rain
Callin all
I am the key
Raindance
Man I'm only human
Endless
Our time
All by myself
Who knows.
If you didn’t know the La’s are scouse, now you do la
Class of their own
They didn’t play Timeless Melody, which is a gem.
this is great
Glad you found and enjoyed
Was at this show. The brilliant Milltown Brothers supported
I always thought it was a shame they only released the one LP. I would have liked to have heard more.
Apparently they recorded the whole album very quickly. The room was filled with mics and they recorded it live, not individually
Cheers! Loved the LA's album, wondered what they'd have been like live, got my answer (even better than the recording). Thanks so much for uploading this and it's great to see from all the comments that there's still a good community of fans out there.
imma listen to his later.. they might be really good from what the comments im seeing (i did hear fishing net and liked it and a little bit of there she goes)
ok so im kinda liking the freedom song
@@thisdeath Thanks for watching and commenting, I am glad you enjoy some of this 🙂
@@ScottishTeeVee yea
Superb! The La’s live vibe is something else. Only got to see them once in 2005 at Manchester Ritz. Genius. Thanks for this.
At least you got to see them.
Amazing to stumble on this. Thanks.
Glad you like it!
