I retired from SURS. They have the exact same Tier 1 AAI deal. I retired in March of 2024, and they sent me a letter asking me to choose between the Tier 1 AAI buyout OR the 3% COMPOUNDING, which would start 1/1/2025. But if I take the buyout, I will not get any COLA until 1/1/2038 (age 67). I am 53 now. At that point, from 1/1/2038, I would get a COLA, but only 1.5% NON-COMPOUNDING. I have about 82 days left to make a decision, as they sent me the letter about 38 days ago.
