Hey Denise, so I'm not sure if you know (and maybe others don't) that stencils have a front and back side to them. The back will be flat while the front will have a small dip on the edges of the design. If you happen to lay them down 'front side ' then that is when you get bleed from. ❤😮😢😅
Loving the grungy feel, especially the purple/blue wave. I would have sworn this to be an Etsy stencil, as it is so unique. Thanks for all you bring to YT .. your creativity, your humor (the world can’t have too much of the joy you spread!!) and your bravery as you express yourself through your art. Wishing you the merriest of merries this holiday season! ❤
Yay Denise! I found another video I missed this week. I love mandalas so this will be fun! You are awesome and I love your approach to art. It reminds me to stop complicating everything! Have fun and let loose:)
Temporary adhesive spray is the way to go. Works perfect! I´ve been watching your videos on making my own watercolors ... here on YT and on Skillshare. Girl I went down that rabbit hole 😂 I try not to buy too many new supplies but, I remembered some OLD pigments from my egg tempera painting period, like 30 years ago 😅 ... They worked perfect and I have had so FUN blending paint. Thank you so much for all you share!! 🤗☺
Hi Denise…. Great video… I use pixie spray to fix the stencil onto the substrate… it is not a permanent fix it is designed especially for stencils.. Thank you again for sharing your passion for learning new techniques . You are special!
Although you didn't mention it, the one on the left, where you applied the graphite paste with a sponge, looked like it had a some glints of sparkle. I painted a small trial run piece in my WC sketchbook today with some Art Graf pan graphite, and it sparkles quite a bit.. I also added a gold embellishment on top of the graphite and it is a wonderful combo-as suggested by another commenter, below. I'm a fan of all the water soluble graphite products!
I've heard that Krylon makes a great temporary fixative for stencils to stay in place. Also Pixie Spray is another alternative. Just make sure your base work is completely dry.
Hi Denise! I am not familiar with this particular graphite paste that you used to stencil today. But, by how it sounded when you applied it with the knife and by what I read about it from the reviews on the link that you posted, it looks to me very similar to the micaceous oxide paste made by Golden (which is more expensive). Where I am going with this is that these very granular pastes provide a fabulous tooth for applying colored pencils, soft pastels and/or oil pastels (any dry media, really) on top of them, with beautiful results. Maybe is worth a try sometimes? Anyway, great results of today’s “play”, thank you so much for sharing. 😊
Denise, what beautiful art pieces today. I really perked up with the sound of purple grunge, lol. Both pieces turned out so good with the stencil.mandala added to.them. These really are some of my favorite pieces you have ever made. I need to decorate my tree today, lol, but something tells me, im breaking out the watercolors instead. LOL ❤❤❤
@2lilowlsstudio I pray you have a Merry Christmas too. We have a new taller tree and a new puppy so it will be very interesting. I was very ill last year and we didn't put up a tree. But my husband really wants one put up. So today will be interesting for sure, lol.
Denise I LOVE these!! The close up pics are gorgeous! These are gothic is a very cool way. Or even maybe SteamPunk. I have graphite powder and paste so will try this. Susan 🏜️🥰
Hey Denise, I hope I forgot to hit the button to post my comment because I don't see it here. I wanted to say how beautiful your artwork turned out and mention how the company has the texture paste in crackle gold, crackle white, and other colors you may want to try.
I saw someone use quilt basting spray with stencils on t shirts. I bet it would work on your cotton paper. Just an thought. I've never heard of pixie spray - further investigation needed... 😊❤

Great to know! Thank you! 🥰
I didn't know that! Thanks for sharing
I knew this but sometimes it's hard to tell which is which especially on the really cheap stencils🤪😂
Hey thanks for that!
Wow, I love the dimension that the past brings to the pieces! Love how these look a bit mysterious and tribal even. Love them!
That paste is really cool, and sparkles a bit in the light! Thank you! 🥰
I always enjoy your videos, and the outcomes.
Thank you Denise.
Happy holidays for you and yours as well as anyone reading my comment.
Happy Holidays!! Thank you! 🥰
Lovely! I could see myself kicking a little gold gilding paste on the texture edges to make some of the detail pop. 🤩
That would have been good on these!! Thank you! 🥰
Ohhh that's a great idea! Love GOLD!!🎉
I agree…these are a success! Ever since I saw graphite on your channel, I’ve been in love with it: blocks, paste, paint.
I love the graphite stuff! So glad you loved these. Thank you! 🥰

Very cool Denise! Love your ring on your right hand too. 😊
Thank you! (That ring is one of my favorite. An antique ring that belonged to my mother) 🥰
It was the "RAAAARRR" when you were using the 14B that did it for me.🤣🤣🤣
Haha! 😂 Thank you! 🥰
The one on the right is sooo beautiful.
These were fun to make. Thank you! 🥰
Pixie spray is made for the back of stencils to cling while you use paste or paint. I love all your videos!
Thank you! 🥰
Love that stencil💕💕💕

Pixie spray will keep your stencil down. I love the colours under the sponged one.
Thanks for the tip! 😊

I agree the stencil butter is too soft sometimes. I use super heavy gesso for stencils and it works great.
Great tip! Thank you! 🥰
Love these! Another great idea!
Thank you! 🥰
Another for Pixie Spray here. Def make sure surface is dry.
Thank you! 🥰
Pixie spray is just what you need
Thank you! 🥰
Pixi Spray is a temporary adhesive spray Make sure you use it in a ventilated area

Susan 🏜️🥰
Definitely feels gothic or steampunk! Have fun 🎨🎨🎨 Thank you! 🥰
Beautiful! I would love to see what would happen if you burnished the paste once it dried; if it would have a bit of sheen from the graphite.
Thank you! 🥰
I've been having great luck stenciling using Dome brushes. They are soft, stuff goat hair brushes and I don't worry about bleeds.
Thanks for sharing!! 🥰
Yes the glue is called Pixie Spray.
Thank you! 🥰

Oooh! The crackles sound fun!! Thanks for mentioning them!! 🥰
Was wondering if this texture comes in gold! Beautiful session today! So much to experiment with! Yes! ❤❤❤

Soooo cool 🖤🤍🖤
Thank you! 🥰
I use Pixie Spray on my stencils so it doesn't run under the stencil and it leaves no residue.
Thank you! 🥰
Aren’t there stencil brushes that are stiff that you pounce straight up and down?
Yes. I don’t love them. I have those too.
@@2lilowlsstudio I can appreciate that. 😂
Pixie spray should stick it down
Thank you! 🥰
