- Hey there, art enthusiasts! Today's video is a laid-back journey into the world of abstract art, where I'm playing with Fusion Mineral paints and these rad Klimt stencils from Joggles. We're diving into creating a trio of abstract pieces, weaving in some Klimt vibes and a color palette we snagged from the color cube. No pressure, just good vibes and a bit of creative chaos. I feel like all the detail of pattern on pattern in Klimt’s paintings happened because he was so happy creating and just didn’t want to stop. For me that sometimes crosses the line of knowing when to quit but it works so wonderfully for Klimt.

I wasn’t familiar with Klimt until I watched your video. No art history major here! 🙃 I followed the link to grab that cool stencil and found a Van Gogh stencil also by Elizabeth St Hilaire. I saw the Van Gogh exhibit at The Met last fall with my daughter. Life changing experience! Thank you for the art lesson, inspiration and sweet reminder of a wonderful day with my girl!

My husband and I enjoy using Joggles' stencils with the gel plate. You talked about how you "like so many things"; I, too, have varied and broad interests--and it shows up in my art. One of the things I truly appreciate about you, Denise, is your willingness to just dive in and your enjoyment while doing so. Thank you for the idea of using great artists to inspire. Great idea. I’ve got paper taped to my board and a note of products to try. I don’t have many actual watercolours but quite a few acrylics. I also have lots of spray inks and Distress inks that I can smoosh so am going to use a voucher I have to get a nice wash brush and get started 😀

I love Klimt and love how these turned out. I also like your idea of making a Klimt inspired pattern sheet. You might be interested to know that Dick Blick carries a Kuretake set with a Klimt palette. It is comprised of sap green deep from the starry set, and the following colors from the original set: lemon yellow, rose madder, black, cerulean blue, and red gold. I have not tried these together yet, but one of these days…

I loved this tutorial, I was lucky to be in Vienna just before Christmas and visited the Upper Belvedere Palace to see the Gustav Klimt exhibition. The 'Kiss' was amazing up close. I bought a couple of prints, The Kiss and the Sunflower, which is also beautiful and full of interest. I was thinking of trying out some abstract art myself, I'm usually a watercolour person. I'm glad you went with the gold, it looked very authentic. I was thinking maybe some edible gold leaf (the gold you put on desserts) might be interesting to try as the gold element. Thank you for the tutorial.

My house is exactly what you were talking about! It is a bungalow that was originally built in the early 1900s but was remodeled top to bottom and added onto. It kept the original flavor but with all new foundation, insulation, you name it. It's so well insulated that it pretty much stays the perfect temperature year round. Yet when people walk by and I'm sitting on my porch they think it was built in the 1900s. It has all the style and flavor of an early 20th century craftsman, but with the comfort of an early 2000s new build!

One question, do you make your own stencils and what material do you use if so?
It took me a long time to get to this point where I’m happy no matter where I end up. Keep trying!! Yes, I have a stencil class on Skillshare. I like using Yupo for stencils. You can also use stencil blank. I draw my pattern and cut it with an exacto knife. There is also a stencil cutter by folkart that burns out the stencil lines. That looks easy to use, just slow. 😊

Hey Denise! These turned out amazing!! I had heard of Klimpt - probably spelled that wrong🤔-but was hooked by the first part of your video with all the patterns and textures. When you first put your first layer down i didnt like it. Not one bit. But when you added the gold even before the Posca white dots I thought- humm this looks like a story on top of a story and I was right. The placement of the stencils was perfect. Thanks for showing and talking through your processes with us!

I’ve been using the stencil burner for years.. there’s a bit of a learning curve, but does a great job. Just using outside because there’s an odor when burning plastic.. I usually make my stencil out of old transparencies or plastic dividers.

You are absolutely right. I love all colors and all "things" too and when I see a top I just have to have, for example,I have to get it in all the different colors because I never can make up my mind which one to pick.

Outstanding! Will do your Klimt class soon! Polychromos work better on top than other pencils because they are oil based as opposed to a lot of others including Prisma which are more wax based. Xx

I think he would give a definite thumbs up to these pieces.
I don't think he did. He would have drawn those out and painted very carefully. He painted rather large paintings - so it might have been easier to be more exact than I did on my little projects. Thank you! 🥰

Peeling the tape is so magical! I watch your videos and sometimes I wonder where you are going. Then it’s tape peeling time and kaboom! Amazed! I think I want instant gratification with my beginner art journey. It takes layers, like onions! (Shrek) lol love your work!

I was sort of familiar with the name but not sure I was familiar with his work. I did a quick search to see his painting and I think I'm in love with him. You really captured the essence of his style but made it your own; you need to frame these. I'm all over the place with what I like, too (love bungalow and contemporary homes and pueblo style after visiting Santa Fe). The difference is you embrace it and I get polarized. Your channel is helping me break away from that.
I think Klimt is one of my favorite masters because of all the amazing pattern work he does and of course the gold... I really enjoyed doing a master study on him. I appreciate his work even more now than I did before! Thank you! 🥰
