I adore watching you paint these abstracts! Your words "be brave, commit" come to me often when I am painting and experimenting. You mentioned recently that we can make our own graphite watercolors - would you please show us your technique for doing that, pretty please with whip cream and a cherry on top? 😁❤️🌹❤️🎨❤️🌹❤️😁
Making graphite paint is one of my skillshare classes if you are on there. There are a few different techniques you could do. The easiest is to get a tub of graphite powder and mix a small scoop of powder with your favorite premade tube watercolor. Then put that mix into a watercolor pan to dry. 😊

Loved this one Denise! Am a total newbie to painting and never dreamt that I would be trying watercolour as back in my 80’s schooldays in the UK, the things we were encouraged to paint were soooo boring and off-putting. But your videos have converted me! Love love love the honest and down to earth reviews too 👍🏼. I've had those XL graphite blocks (and the charcoal ones) on my wishlist for a while. I decided to go on a No Buy for art supplies for August, and of course they went on sale. I was strong and didn't buy them. 😄I made it through August without buying art supplies, which I didn't think was possible. 🤣 Now watch, they won't go on sale again for a few months! Loved the video! 🥰

I just love those graphite sticks and what you do with them. The 2 colors are lovely. Take a look at the "face" panel that you flipped. Can you see 2 white eye sockets and a shoulder? Can't get away from a face...it's almost spooky.

Turning the pieces is wonderful. Seeing "the face" change to what I saw as mesas & rock chimneys complimented the next piece. I stopped myself from locking that thought process down though. Because those tones really take me to my Missouri woodland late summer, dark waters and lushly grown viney woods. Thank you for a great start to my day!

Yes, I have the graphitint watercolors too. They are fun! I like the Kuretake better just because of pan size, but I love all the colors the derwent come in 😊

Hi Denise, did you know that you can take a spoon and rub on the areas where the Kuretake Gansai Tambi Graphite water color is placed? It will bring out the graphite in the painting.

I’m curious how many other people besides myself find themselves thinking too hard about what they are doing? How many times do you have to stop and remind yourself to stop thinking. What are the things you notice in your art when you ARE thinking about it vs NOT thinking too hard?
We all think to hard!! Thats why I like talking to someone or the camera... takes some of the stress off. Playing music helps too. If I'm working too hard at it - I get frustrated. If I let my mind wonder while I work or chat with someone... it goes easier, I stay longer, and I'm much happier with what I end up with. 😊

Denise, have you found a silver that you would consider to be as good as the karitake gold you like so much? I tried the karitake silver, but results weren’t good.
No!! I want a silver that is just as good too and I have been disappointed in the ones I’ve tried. I might put the Kuretake silver in a finetip applicator and see if I like it any better that way. 😊
