I haven't watched Motocross/sx in years, but recently got back into it since its on peacock. I saw a YT video about Jeffrey and was an instant fan. What a talent, same with the Lawrence brothers. I hope @motocross of nations everyone is healthy, and Jeffrey and both brothers attend.
I agree, I appreciate Jeffrey and the Lawrence boys' candidness. I wish more people in more sports would realize that the athletes are the product too, not just their results.

Even FI and Moto GP realised they had to limit the power of their cars and bikes because they were just getting too fast and dangerous. It's about time MX did the same by replacing the 450 class with a 350 class.

I was a child of the 70's. I always thought that 125 riders were the best. It takes real skills to make a bike with a narrow power band be super fast. James Stewart was that guy.
Technology has gotten to the point that for racing purposes a 200cc and 350cc 4t class would be more fun to watch, safer and overall better. It'll never happen but we can dream. Leave the 450s for open class
We should ditch the 450 and make 350 the premier class tune those up the same way we do the 250 and save 450s for the guys who are free riding dunes and shit

Interesting, I doubt we'll ever see a move like in MLB they used wooden bats, there's talk in Golf also about the guys hitting the ball too far, moto bikes are too fast, it'd make some sense to reduce the power to have better racing, but that cuts directly against everything the manufacturers have worked toward, there's no possible way they'd be on board with that idea.

I'd be happy if it went back to 125 lites class and 250 premier class though.the supercross tracks aren't as technical as they used to be, they're alot faster, which would be fine if guys weren't on bikes that are 200cc more than what was ideal for sx. When 4 strokes first came about it was fine because they were heavier and more sluggish, so it balanced out,but 4 strokes now are so advanced. They rev more like a 2 stroke,in terms of explosive power, and they're more responsive now compared to how they were initially. It's basically like trying to ride supercross on a 500cc 2 stroke.theres too much power!!
He’s got a good point… the same issue exists in road racing, the old school bike circuits don’t have the run off required to cope with the modern monsters that are on the grids. In terms of Factory Vs Privateer, this is where you have to give credit to the European manufacturers like Aprillia, Ducati and KTM in MotoGP, they’ve realised that brand dominance is more important than the factory ivory tower winning. Flooding the grids with competitive machinery. (Aero development a whole other can of worms.) Especially Ducati as they’re going after WBSK the same way with the Panigale V4… much the same way KTM have gone after the off-road market with their Ready To Race mantra. The old 500GP two stroke days were great as you could fight for podiums with a privateer bike. Other series have looked at using the rules and regs to keep the racing close. BSB has one of the best grids in that regards. Age old conundrum with factory Vs privateer… only the series organisers and regulators can manage that with the teams to keep the racing close via fair regulation and control of development. (Kit ECUs, etc).
Go back to 2 strokes .. give them 144cc and 300cc cylinders (with a 'push to pass' type of option lol) and let their A-kits and Factory suspensions sort them out
If jeffery herlings says bikes are to powerful thats saying something. Maybe they should bring bike back to 400's or even just have 350's as the open class.
I mean his statements about the horsepower aren't quite correct i think. Bikes haven't increased in horsepower since the 80s. I would say technique suspension and rideability have increased. In my opinion tire limitations would probably be the best bet. That way you dont have to change engine regulations and it would decrease track deterioration as well

Gone & race GPS before his retirement & RV tried it as he was retiring but got injured & didn't finish the series

2) 65cc 2-stroke, 12"/14", 7 - 9 yrs old.
3) 80cc 2-stroke, 14"/17", 10 - 12 yrs old.
4) 125cc, 4-stroke, 16"/19", 13 -15 yrs old.
5) 200cc, 4-stroke, 18"/21", 16+ yrs old.
6) 350cc, 4-stroke, 18"/21", 18+ yrs old.

It wouldn't even slow the field. Many riders (including high level pros) go faster on 350s because they're more manageable. Smooth is fast.
