I actually made one of these, and instead of making the body of foam, I actually got an old barbie doll from the thrift store and painted it black base color, made a much more stable base, I then coated it in custom armor, painted it, and even kept the dolls hair and braided it up and made it cool looking, had a cool female armored collosus.
What an incredible build, great job! Some possible tips for the future, or for anyone trying to recreate this: 1) Superglue can be your friend 2) Try spreading the hotglue thinner with the nozzle of the gluegun 3) For completely flat pieces, styrene can be a good, albeit sometimes expensive alternative to card stock 4) Tin/Aluminum foil can be an excellent way to sculpt your base shapes, rather than foam, since you build it up rather than cut away at it. Just be aware that it conducts heat well so you don't burn yourself 5) For your base coat, you can mix up a 50/50ish mixture of black paint and mod podge (not white glue). It takes a bit to dry, but it'll give your model some serious durability and rigidity.
My god, This is amazing, I’ve never seen anything being built like this before! and you’re a master at it Lucas! Your Dragons are bloody brilliant as well, but this really is a Titan. I loved it.
"It is important to keep your work space really clear." ....Well crap I definatly can't do this now. My desk is always a mess. This is very beautiful by the way, and the way it was made was incredibly unique!
This is actually incredible, but what's more is that every step was so simple it's clear that it doesn't take a high degree of artistic skill to create something like this, only the patience to mess up and improve upon it as you go. Thank you so much for the work you do!!
I used soda cans to make armor for things it works great also holds a shape really well. Be careful you can cut yourself on the sharp edges of the can. So make sure you dull it first before shaping.
Dark Souls series are my favorite games to play along with D&D to which you combined both aspects into an AWESOME miniature. Dude, this thing is sick! You did an awesome job man. Congratulations
This is an incursion into the realm of Difficult Stuff. And a scarily successful one. If I tried to do the foam body I'd be dicking around for hours, and getting really pissed off - but the thing I came up with would still be a piece of crap. And I'd never have the vision to come up with all the fancy armour components, even starting from an illustration. You're too good at this.
Everyone of your cardstock videos I say "this looks like sh*t!" Than I get to the end and I'm completely amazed! Keep up the great work! Your low budget terrain and minis are very inspiring!
in my homebrewed fantasy campaign setting i have a huge, occasionally animate, statue of a warrior called the colossus. i have never found a miniature that satisfied my image of the colossus. but you just inspired me to build my own. very nice work sir.
@@BardsCraft Well we will both need bits as I started sculpting for my Necron Army for Armies On Parade last year. I came in 3rd and all I did was add some carved crystals and hills. :)
Really, really epic build man. Excellent work. I'm as impressed by the final product as I am with the anatomical precision you applied early in the build. Craft on! -Snuggles
this video has inspired me to make 4 armored giants for my campaign, the warrior of the north (a viking), of the south (an aztec jaguar warrior), of the east (a ronin) and the west (either a cowboy or a knight, cant decide)
first of all, really nice build you got there, like the painting and all, gave me inspiration to do something similar aaaaaand i got some tips : use metal wires to help XPS stay together and be more durable for the paint mix some PVA or MOD PODGE glue with the first black coat to help the paint stick to the figure and it also prevents washes not damaging the cardboard armor use superglue to help the threads on the weapon thoses were just tips don't get upset please, this knight looks sick, you deserved that like
I love this channel. I got sick of american channels with makers that have thousands of dollars of equipment and equally expensive sets and models to make and paint. They show you nothing and don't help at all. So please keep posting, because you're making a difference to us "real" people that don't have deep pockets. Thumbs up every time mate.
Your comment on the community post I did a while ago got me working on this! It's always easier to "procrastinate" doing terrain, even if that is good work as well. Thanks for the kick!
Impressive However I think using wire to skewer the foam to create a sort of skeleton I feel would make this far more solid. Even cutting the torso into segments and giving it a wire spine would help with creating a more dynamic pose as you can bend the wire spine. Rather than constant reinforcing with more and more hot glue. Oh well still looks good though
Another exemplary tutorial! Novel idea, great execution, cogent advice/directions, and (as always) AMAZING narration and editing [particularly loved the hot-glue gun reloading action shot]!
What about a length of armature wire in an upside down U shape through the torso and upper and lower arms? Then you could position the arms exactly before finalizing the pose with hot glue into the joints.
Get rid of the glue gunk by blasting it with a heat gun! I just love how you make things out of whatever and just try new things and just figure it out as you go.
I wonder if you could do something similar using one of those artist's mannequins (the wooden posable ones)? Then you'd have a custom action-figure miniature thing.

The Spear and the lower parts of the armor remind me of Ornstein from Dark Souls.
Great job mate.
Man, you are a genius with 2D shapes. You have a knack for tailoring patters.
Bless, my son has just asked if you make these to sell. I told him your vids are designed so he can make his own, following your advice. :)

Love your channel and the way you make stuff from things that everyone can afford to get. Showing crafting doesn't have to be expensive. Keep it up 😁
