Amazing to have some great people making awesome products. Unfortunately, they're only on Facebook. I left that place a decade ago and will never be back. Not even for great parts I want.
Again, thank you for sharing the reality of owning a Kyosho buggy and what happens when they're raced and worked. If you can, share the process of converting the Mid to the longer wheelbase. Thanks, great piece of content and insightful.
Ball diffs on carpet is always going to be a ticking time bomb. There is a reason why all modern cars run gear diffs on high traction. The idler could be a tad wider or the diff made out of stronger material from the factory but I don't think Kyosho expected these cars to be raced on high traction as many are doing now. These were intended for dirt as they were back in the day. Annoying that it happened but yeah, definitely run gear diffs on astro and carpet.
Good to know, I was planning to take my 87 to a carpet track but not so sure it’s a good idea now. I’d be interested to learn how the aftermarket pulleys hold up by comparison.
Hi RL. I built my Exo-LWB last weekend. You‘ll definitely need larger bearings on the belt tensioner. 4x9x2.5 or even 4x10x2.5. Hope this helps. Great videos btw. Looking forward to the 870c🍻
just about to build my JJ, i was wondering if the gear diff from a standard Ultima rere would be worth a try? i cant help thinking that metal idler gear is always going to munch diffs. looking forward to seeing the LWB conversion. Thanks for the informative content btw
I fitted the gear diff to mine. You would do well to break it lol. The standard diff should be fine, just make sure the slipper is slipping. It depends how hard you want to drive it. On carpet i would say the gear diff will serve you well 👍
If i ever did come back to racing i think id struggle, the old man sorted the cars all I did was drive them. The car in a million bits makes me nervous 😂
Only you eh ;) I thought these Kyoshos were like the crème of vintage re releases 😂 my Tamiya’s don’t strip gears like this ! Joking aside I’m sure you’ll get it running again soon just looks like they do need the gear diff for carpet running , be interesting to see what the yokomo is like as that’s all gear diffs out the box . Take care buddy
Yeah, me and kyosho 😂 gear diffs are bullet proof. Im hoping my yokomo turns up in time for the next meeting, the diffs are apparently out of a modern model so will be fine. More so as there belt drive 👌
The idler in the gearbox is a terrible design. 1. it's not as wide as it could be. 2. it's only attached to one side of the gearbox housing. Awful. After 30+ years, they should know how to make this reliable.
Yup, loads dont seem to have a problem ? But had a few people say they stripped thete’s aswell. The gear diff is strong but i hate them, fling oil everywhere and ball diffs are better on are grass track. But as its carpet season i may just pop in some gear diffs till we head outdoors 😎
Nah, running ball diffs on carpet is an absolute no no. Granted the idler could be a tad wider. But with high traction, and modified motors, never run ball diffs.
it's a replica of a buggy that was raced outdoors in the 80s, was never intended for high traction modern indoor tracks. Use anything outwith its use case and it will break.
“I genuinely meant to take it steady, your honour.” Each and every one of us does this to a b and every bloody time and we never learn it seems. I’m laughing with you not at you here mate. Everyone knows that most blokes are really just older children and we ALWAYS do silly things like this, get carried away and smash stuff when we were really trying not to. :) :) Didn’t fancy the council house bathroom colour youth?? :) :) WTF RC’s opinion as told to me in person and also on his channel, bless ‘im.
Indeed, if im not having fun something aint right 😂 even when they break, laugh and carry on. There only toys at the end of the day. And we can fix them 😁

Yeah, its a shame everything has to use facebook. Bring back websites and forums 👍

Cheers, i will indeed. Just waiting to order the parts 👍

Yeah, i put the gear diff in my ultima, wasnt wanting to on this as its not cheap. Could deffo of been a stronger set up

I think the vintage stuff would be ok, its mainly down to not backing the slipper off. But the gear diffs are bullet proof in the rere’s
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this buggy. Nice to see it being raced.
Cheers, i was gutted it went, i was going to film the final but had to swap to the ultima lol

Cheers for the heads up, i’ll see what comes in the kit 👍 870 is delayed due to floods. But thats not a problem, its only a buggy 👍
It;s good to get some opinions on this one. Thank you.
Cheers, its a weak point for sure.
Maybe this is an issue on a hard high tracktion surface?
Deffo, slipper needs to set up for sure 👍
Hey Richard, that is such a shame pal. These things happen though pal and at least there are options to repair
Yeah, just annoying. But lwb chassis has been orderd. It was a great car to drive. Just a little nervous for my liking.

Cheers for the info 👍maybe somebody will make an acetal or delrin idler for the mid @@lo2713
@@Mu5hman there is the possability of the ball diff coming made from this 🤞
Thanks for sharing 😊
That’s disappointing seeing this issue on many posts/videos. I’d like to get the gear diffs and hopefully lbrc will make a proper strong gear.
Yeah, hopefully once we head outdoors onto the grass it wont happen 🤞 but if he is able to get something made i will get an update posted 👍
If i ever did come back to racing i think id struggle, the old man sorted the cars all I did was drive them. The car in a million bits makes me nervous 😂
Thats half the fun, im happy building and pulling cars apart. I would rather spend all day doing that than acctually driving 😂
Sucks you stripped it out, especially since it sounds like it was running really well! Hopefully the next outing goes a lot better!
Yeah, was great. Just a little edgy to drive hard

great video and information
Cheers, hopefully save someone from the same issue 🤞
Seems everyone is having issues with ball diffs in everything lately
Ive been lucky so far, just my kyosho’s 🤔 but, its not the end of the world 😁
Nice😊
Well that's unfortunate. Not like Kyosho to release something like that.
Yeah, its not ideal imho, but running the slipper looser would of helped, so not all there fault
I'm just lucky not to have done that myself.@@lo2713
A Tamiya Avante would be a better choice, probably more reliable/robust
😂
Well when i get around to buying one, we can find out 😁
I’ve done the same and I wasn’t running it on carpet 😂
Well its getting run outdoors tomo on the grass track, fingers crossed it survives 🤞

Aw very disappointing 😕 and having to undo all your hard work again rebuilding the car 🤦
I enjoy building, so its not all bad, and as its going lwb i need to strip it down. But is annoying haha
