    Hi, so thankful to you.... I have an XC90 (2013), I found myself unable to refuel as the cap would not open... went to Vovlo, they sorted it and told me i should book the car in for them to look at it and fixed it... Estimated cost £500.... MOT due so have to have it fixed.... Lucky for me I found your video, and went to put some oil on the mechanism.... didn't even need to open the white casing. It is all fixed now.... And I have cancelled my visit to the garage.... You just saved me £500.... Thank you!!! I am so grateful!

      A spare noname part i found was 60 bucks. 500 pounds for fixing that is so unethical but that is supply and demand for you. They'll take any chances they can to rob you when they think you don't know better.

    6 years on & this video is still of great help!! My XC90 had the same problem & after watching this yesterday I stripped mine out this morning & covered the screw gear with white grease ( lasts longer than any other grease ) put it back together & hey presto SUCCESS!!!
    The only thing that’s different is the delay time before the plunger activates. For some reason the delay on mine is close to 20 minutes before it kicks in & locks the fuel flap. Apart from that I couldn’t be happier especially with arseholes stealing fuel from cars during the shortage right now!!

    This is a real world simple fix for a known problem. All Simons videos are excellent and address everyday problems that appear on high mileage cars. The S60 is an excellent car, but when the miles pile up things start to go wrong, these videos really do help keep our ageing s60s not only get through MOTs but restore power and ride quality. Thank you Simon, don't bin your car any time soon!

    Just used this video to recondition the fuel flap solenoid on my XC90. Worked like a charm, though like one of the other commenters I thought at first it hadn't worked because the delay time is about 20 minutes. Thank you for doing this video, it's saved me simply paying to replace the part.

    Great video, thanks. Judging by the number of views, this is a common problem! My flap refused to open when I pulled up at a petrol station and I've got a temporary fix (?!) of plugging the hole in the flap. Will have to do it properly. Very easy access.

    Great video and explanation. In my case, the failure was the white bushing that inserts into the mounting plate/housing came loose (it is tight to the plate/housing in your video) and I believe it was preventing locking from happening. The detailed disassembled video was very helpful. The innards of my unit were clean and like new, after 18 years. Another benefit of your video is that a small bumper piece that slides into half the housing that lessens the impact on unlocking fell out when disassembling - in your video I can see it in its proper place.

      Jurre Mattheeuwse two of my teeth have broken off. How did you repair? Dont think superglue will work

    • @JurreMattheeuwse
      @JurreMattheeuwse 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Superglue was my first idea, but that broke again. Then I took a piece of aluminum, in the shape of a little pizza slice. With a file I made two teeth at the rounded end of the 'pizza slice'. Then I roughly cut the shape of the piece of aluminum from the plastic gear with a little saw (not to the centre of the gear, roughly halfway), heating the aluminum, and fusing it into place in the plastic. Two drops of super glue for the security on each side. At last I filed the sides flush and the lock still works after a few months.

      I had the same problem, 3 teeth were broken on my 2004 S60. I used smth similar to JB Weld, mixed the two compounds together and slap them onto the missing teeth, then I filed them after it has cured, which was around 5 to 10 mins. Now it works like a charm. Thanks to SiRobb for showing the internal workings of the locking mechanism, it's not so difficult to fix after all.

    Good suggestion and excellent video, but I didn't fancy screwing into a metal body, near a fuel cap. I sourced a replacement (new) bracket & spring from a well known auction site for £6.99 and it took me 1/2 to fit. It was an aftermarket part rather than a Volvo main-stealer priced part; but on a 14 year old V70 (with only 55k on the clock) it was worth the price and the time. Thanks for your video's; I do find them easy to follow!

How many times have I gotten out of the car and forgot to press the stupid button and then I had to go back around and push it.

      Sorry, I think I used the wrong word. The thing that broke is the plastic protrusion that you pull to undo the lock from the inside of the car in case the lock is jammed. I think I'll manage anyway. And the lock still works about a month later just from lubrication.

  • @bobphillips2188
    @bobphillips2188 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brilliant, thank you sir. My flap hinge spring thing just broke. I was wondering if there was a quick fix! And your other vid showed how. Mine only stayed closed because of the filler cap springy thingy, hardly a solution... Plus the flap locking mechanism in this vid - I'm on it! It didn't really work reliably when I bought the car, but wasn't too worried about that. Now, a 10 minute fiddle might do the job, with luck. Mind you, there are loads of pattern bits available out there. £5 for a complete hinge assembly (which might break really soon after fitting). My last job was the rear wiper. The nylon gear wheel was eroded by the worm screw, so repair wasn't really straight forward. A rebuilt complete motor assembly cost £25 delivered, and was a half hour job to fit, tops. Works as it should now. But does anyone have an answer to this - the rear wiper blade really won't bend to reach the top of the rear screen. And it hits the 'spoiler' (stupid thing, but not removable, realistically) too, the cause of the gear wheel failure over time. I bought a new arm and blade assembly, and the same problem occurred. So I have sawn part of the blade cover away. Not ideal, and shouldn't happen - any ideas out there? I'm sure it worked properly when I bought the car as an 8 year old... But don't despair, all you Volvo owners of ageing vehicles, there is usually a way. Like with 'cloudy' headlamps - either an afternoon's work with emery paper and elbow grease + laquer (literally £3, plus £5 postage from China!). Or £40 a pop for pattern headlamp units and an afternoon working out how to re-fit the bumper. Keep up all the good work SiRobb, from Sir Bob o' the far North (-:)

      A new hinge is the right way to go. Less than $20 US, and a half hour of work. Using self tapping screws is an inferior solution.

    very nice. the question is what to do when there is no power to the motor. mine will unlock, but not lock (no voltage for 'lock' polarity).

    What if my connector works only halfway, when i press unlock it multimeter shows bout 10amps but no voltage when i lock it? Is there problem in the cable(i dont think so bcuz it would not be functioning at all, right?). Is there any fuse/relay assigned for this?
