    Moot not Mute. (moo t not myoo t) It matters, actually. Bonus points, though, because you know the word and how to use it, if not spell it. Rock on, friend. You are one of my heroes.

    I hang around for the commentary. You always provide great tips on the projects that you film and "life" tips as well.

    Torque converter assembly. After I removed the flywheel I couldn't get the spindle off the flywheel.

    @jam00723 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Those Perkins usually have the Bosch DP pumps. Did you time the pump before pulling it? There’s a little “coke tab” you unscrew on the body of the pump and flip up then screw in to stop the hydraulic head from spinning. Love your Subaru stuff and your channel Brian.

    • @briansmobile1
      @briansmobile1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks James! That's right, this engine has a similar pump and process. I have videos listed on it under CAV / DPA on my channel.

      @jam00723 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Right on. I didn’t see if the timing cover piece for the pump gear removed that’s why I had mentioned it. The British are weird when it comes to nomenclatures, they call a gasket a “joint” in the service manual. Thank god for 1776! JK

    Enjoy your videos, Brian. Get a holder (scraper) for your razor blades so that you can push it properly and retract the blade when you are not using it. Trust me; makes scraping much easier and safer.

    I've worked on a few commercial diesels (Perkins and Duetz). I hate that the parts are next to impossible to find online. Parts dealers want a million bucks for any part on them.

    Hi Brian, you wouldn’t happen to know the measurements from sump to highest point? I am looking at replacing the Chrysler lm318 with this engine but I’m worried about height.

    You asked if a lady is watching videos of this engine rebuild to give you a shout 😁 and here I am, watching the whole series of your videos on this engine cause my partner and I have the same engine, we pulled it out of our boat and had it rebuild by someone who messed it up completely. We are thinking of undertaking a rebuild ourselves right now cause getting a new one is way over our budget. Great to see done this from A- Z, thanks heaps for making these videos! 🙌 Cheers! Natalia

    can someone tell me why the 4.236 Perkins diesel start from 56 hp and streches to 102 hp ? and what excakly is the changes they make. except increasing RPM, adding turbo and fuel from the gorvenor ? i have a volvo 2200 that i have added turbo and turned up the the fuel pump. from orginal that was 56 hp. there is a a strong noticable difference. but i dont know if it is now 65-75-85-95 hp

    Very many thanks. We are in MA rebuilding one for a sailboat destined for Antarctica; if you're "excited" to see another one in pieces look us up. My wife winched the monster out the boat using the mast and boom...lots of weight...we also disconnected the gearbox. facebook.com/poppycocksailing

    Have any of your engines ever sagged your engine stand? I've got a 1 ton Harbor Fright stand that starts creeping downward from a 440 short block. Guess i didn't waste too much money in any case.

    I am a true believer about the value of bagging and tagging all the bits and pieces during disassembly. Learned it the HARD WAY. Won't bore you with the sad story. I also recommend numbering the bags and taking a digital picture of all the contents. The longer the project sits before completion, the more important the digital pictures become. Don't forget, you can also MAKE SMALL SKETCHES to help you to remember details.

    It's a good video with lots of good advice. The only thing that I wish the author would do in future videos is to pause between each sentence. He goes on and on from one sentence to the next in one breath. I don't know about you but it gives me a headache to listen to his commentaries. It's the same kind of the headache I get when I watch a video that does not stop moving.

    Oh yeah, Brian, I'm the same way I used tons of zip bags in my engine swaps or rebuild jobs. Much life saver! I love Perkins engine. Used to have one on Bedford CF van in England. I had 2.3 straight four Perkins diesel, the injection pump was mounted slightly vertical in front of engine. I'm sure you have heard of it? Had it for so many years, leaked like mofo, but had it for hundreds, hundreds of miles. 425,000 miles total. Great lil engine. 👍👍. Great video

    Milwaukee hand tools - That is interesting.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Techtronic_Industries
    "They also produce products for Sears under their Craftsman name"
    Now that Craftsman has been broken and sold; Maybe this is where they are coming in under Milwaukee name?
