      @@Mochic45bad movies at the box office doesn’t mean personally some people didn’t think the movie “sucked”. On the other hand a movie that did well at the box office may in some eyes not be a very good movie. The issue is movies have to make money, your personal opinion on the movie is a choice I’m sure the producers would love to be possible but in the grand scheme of things doesn’t matter as long as it was a box office success.

      @@ohiunku That was my point. Tom only had 3 flops. Doesn't mean the movie was good. That's a problem cuz it's all about $. Not about being good. The producers don't care if it sux but the audience does...

    I'm so tired of Hollywood not crowning this man the GOAT. I'm Black so I'm "supposed" to say Denzel is the GOAT...at one time maybe Will Smith. Denzel is my number 2 right now but bruh...if you ask chatGPT what the term "He don't miss" means, it will reference Tom Cruise. He is, by far THE GOAT.

    He has total respect across Hollywood today, after fighting them for years and becoming an outcast, suing Paramount, but ultimately coming out the winner. Cruise in early 90s was fantastic, The Firm my favourite, Few Good Men a close second. He may be eccentric and difficult to live with, but driven teetotal billionaires with multiple pilots licences will be. He should be proud at how far he has come since 81 and a role model to his kids.

      Great question, @jay300m04! These paychecks mostly boil down to an actor's star power-how much they can draw an audience-and the movie's budget. Other perks like backend deals, box office cuts, and even how risky the role is can all bump up that number.

    • @Eric_In_SF
      @Eric_In_SF 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, people just don’t understand how it all works which makes sense. They’re not handing him a check for 100 million bucks. They signed $100 million deal with him and probably gave him $10 million in cash and the rest of it was kind of like a draw or a commission as the movie made money. He makes money. And nurse things they work out with producers who want to get paid first actors get paid second so the guy that actually put the hundred and60 million $ bill for the movie once his money back and is entitled to his money back first.
      Then this doesn’t even go into any details about the contract, which are probably impossible to know because it’s all very confidential, but I’m sure Tom probably owns 5% of each of the movies so even when you see him doing the movie for $5 million he could be getting a commission or royalties off of that movie in perpetuity

      I think that the movie to break even needs to earn the double of money compared to the budget. There is marketing and the cinema's earnings for the tickets.

    Always thought The Mummy was a flop! Pretty sure it was reported that way, or am I imagining that? 😂 Also didn’t realise how popular The Last Samurai was. And I’m guessing he had points for War of the Worlds because 100m on a single paycheck is a little bit insane.

    • @BoxOfficeJoe
      @BoxOfficeJoe  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The Mummy is a complicated case, @thepodbaydoorshal-thanks for bringing it up. Based solely on its budget and box office earnings, it could be considered a hit. However, there are other factors to consider, such as advertising costs, the split of earnings with cinemas, and, perhaps most importantly, the fact that The Mummy was meant to launch an entire universe. Unfortunately, the film received so many negative reviews that those plans never came to fruition.

      Agreed, @n8n8n8n! It's a classic. But these are just cold box office numbers, it doesn't mean the movie is bad. Actually, I think it was a bit ahead of its time, which resulted in poor reception.

    A movie has to gross over twice the budget to essentially break even. These films should be judged by that standard.

    • @BoxOfficeJoe
      @BoxOfficeJoe  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s true, @R._Thornhill! I chose this simplified approach because these movies continue generating revenue well beyond their theatrical runs, reinforcing the labels I assigned them. However, I understand your point and agree. I may rethink the criteria for these labels.
