The biggest problem for me now in bonsai is moving the trees/pots around. Some are so heavy I have to use something with wheels to do the job. Although I am a young 70 years old, I can feel the bones beginning creak under the weight. The good customer makes a good point that at some time in our lives we have to make certain decisions a younger person would not make. Beautiful tree.
Stunning tree, must be quite a nice surprise for you Peter when you see a tree coming back to you after so many years and looking that healthy must give you great joy 😊
Wow what a credit to the keeper of the pine it will be happy for another 25 years with occasional repots but not many, drilling holes is a new one with me but as Peter says if it works don’t knock it, let’s air into the roots plus access for feeding. Thank you Peter.
The art of Bonsai is so interesting to me. Not just raising a plant, but creating a miniature representation of a full-sized tree. I've seen examples of people making tiny forests, with foliage as well.
It’s all about balance between the roots and foliage..in spring before the leaves come out, you can take the root mass back quite a bit, trimming the top back as needed, as long as you don’t unbalance it, the tree remains healthy and stimulated for more growth.
One advantage of plastic or Mica pots is that they are much lighter than ceramic. If the owner didn't mind plastic you could go to the next size up pot and the weight would be about the same. The other advantage is they don't crack during the Winter freezes.
@@Stettafire highly depends on the grow zone and the pit for sure. That being said most pots are not cold hardy to my zone BUT we also never leave trees in shallow pots outside either since they are no longer hardy at our -45f winters. Since we keep all our trees inside in a cold room we then don’t worry about the winter hardiness of the pot.
I think it’s funny that he sits there and tells these guys what to do. They probably do this all day long, but he feels it’s necessary to sit and tell them how to repot the plant. That would drive me nuts.
If weight was a concern, why not switch to a larger mica pot? That way any weight gain from more soil would be mitigated by eliminating some pot weight..
Great white pine! Definitely needed a repot! It shouldn’t have to stay elevated out of that same pot though- it has so many healthy roots there would be no issue reducing the underside of the root ball and the edges.
What a beautifully kept tree. Congratulations to the owner who has taken care of it for so long. 👏
Beautiful pine. This gentleman has definitely cared for this tree!

I’d like to see a video about moss!
Not easy to care and maintain white pine, thumbs up for the owner and Pater 👍. Thx for sharing Peter... Cheers
What a beautiful pine. Perfectly picturesque.
Thanks Peter and Team.

Beautiful .

Most ceramic pots won't crack either. It depends on how they're made and how they're fired.

I love white pine! I have one but not as mature! Love it!
Thank you.
Lovely tree.
I just reserved myself one of those beautiful imported cork bark black pines😍

Gran maestro, excelente trabajo . a gracias por lo de las perforaciones no lo sabia.
Sir Peter, I find it interesting that you use cm for height, and inches for depth of soil.
I am confused because I was brought up in Imperial but try to keep up with the times by using metric nowadays .
@@peterchan3100 depends I. Who is watching 😂. Half the country is cm and the other half like me are inches.
Phenomenal

Peter can you graft on japanese larch please can you let me know 🙏
I dont see why not but why would you want to graft. Larches produce new shoots and branches very easily.
@@peterchan3100 wow even from a stump?
@@smokereapergaming3861 I'd suggest looking up something called "coppicing" it's fascinating to watch :)
Areyou trying to graft a branch in a new place on the tree? Or are you saying you have a cut stump and no growth yet?
@smoke reaper gaming ^
How much would that tree be worth today?
Wow...👍👍

That's actually a very good point. But, do they make mica pots as beautiful as the one the owner has been using? If so, he would be smart to switch.
Should have given to Kevin to style rewire
