One of the things that made me fall in love with this channel before and with bonsai after is the naming of roots "beautiful roots". I had never seen roots as something that could be beautiful, thank you Mr Chan!
As many others have said, I look forward to followup videos on this magnificent Maple. I even have initial ideas on the pots coloring, shape, and design aspect to go with it. You are a treasure Mr. Chan.
6:53 I agree, the number of times I see people selling “blue Japanese maple seeds” with an obviously photoshopped picture of the blue split trunk maple is astounding. I guess not everyone know much about horticulture, and they have no idea they are being scammed out of there money.
Thank you very much Mr. Chan for sharing all your knowledge and over all for inspiring me into this amazing hobby. I am reading one of your books and it seems to me everything your books mention is revised and expanded in your videos. Greetings from Mexico City.
I have been doing and teaching all this for almost 40 years - First book published 1985 second one in 1986, so I was ahead of my time. I was prabably the first person to expound the use of Hedging material and large trees for bonsai in the 1970s and everyone scoffed at me. Now see what's happening !!
I can almost picture that maple standing proud in it's pot looking like its predecessors. Whoever get that specimen later sure is a lucky guy 🍁. Awesome, thx for sharing Peter 👍.
A new toy Peter a project which will be wonderful when you have created it, I have all your books and know that picture well. Thank you for your videos.
I thought sure you were going to make a saw cut where the two trunks join to spread the trunks further apart. Would that not give it that “split trunk” look? Or would that kill the tree?
Another enjoyable video peter, i have your 1st book , i think you have at this stage peter as many hawian shirts as bonsai trees lol you can never have too many of either.🙂
I get lots of presents of Hawaiian shirts but sadly some of my fans dont realise I am only a SMALL size. So many of the gifts of shirts are too large. I will have to auction them off for charity.
@@peterchan3100 That would be a great idea Peter. The shirts are colourful fun and its nice of fans to send them. Thankyou for all your videos you inspire us bonsai learners everyday and with some life lesson philosophy aswell. 😊
Hi master chan been a year and a half since i last spoke to you. Glad your looking well and still giving valuable information for people. I would like to ask im about to save a 15 year old oak tree from the ground and would like your advice as to what to use once i get it out the ground. What would you use? soil or spagnam moss and where shall i keep it while it recovers from the move? Thank you for your time 🙏
Spring is the best time to dig it out. When you have got it out- just plant it in ordinary soil in a large pot. Oaks are very resilient. So dont worry. If you live in the temperate region you can still did it out now.
Yes sri kupchak design tree maple syrup beautiful things poorly cutting free they 3 week ok tree told pirates very much agree 🌴thank you for good advice kupchak 👴🙏🥰🥰
I think you should keep it oldschool and lose the power tools. There is somethig about using hand clippers keeps it authentic. But you are the master and i just watch online. But love your work! P.S...please start shipping to the US
Does someone know what kind of tray Peter uses to mix his soil? I do not even have a clue what to type into google. It seems much sturdier than anything I was able to find. And to Peter: thank you for all your videos. You helped me to set foot into the biggest passion waiting to be found. If I ever will be able to save enough money, I will visit Herons someday.
Cement mixing tray that are sold in the UK for mixing cement. Very handy - I have been using these since my amateur days in the early 1970s. Not the same tray though but they last a long time.
@@peterchan3100 thank you. That was my first guess but at least in Germany all cement trays are way deeper and with thinner walls. I will keep looking. Have a nice day
To be honest, I'd start by digging up seedlings or trees in parks. It's generally legal (but double check), free, and a much more satisfying experience. That being said, ficus, juniper, and maples are quite hardy in many environments, and relatively easy to grow. Basically, if you look at native trees near you or follow your USDA growing zone, you'll probably have good results.

"Damn crooks" is probably the funniest thing I've ever heard Peter Chan say. Love it!
I do abuse in Hindi and Punjabi - very bad ones. But not on this channel.
Mornings with my coffee, my cat on my lap, and Peter working a Japanese Maple, life doesn't get much better.
When you visit Herons - that will be best.

What are some good beginner trees?
I would start with juniper procumbens nana , shimpaku juniper or chinese elm. Those were my first trees . All hardy and can take a beating

Maybe the severed roots in the ground would grow into trees later.
Sadly - NO. Japanese maples dont grow from root cuttings. Field maples do and Elms too but not Japanese Maples.
"Damn crooks." LOL! There's a special place in Hell for those jackasses, Peter.
I'd be reducing the trunks a lot more. There's not enough taper currently and the trunks are too parallel.
