      @carlosiagnecznot necessarily. If it has a decompilation like SM64 and OOT, modding is as simple as directly editing the code. With traditional rom hacks, there is a lot of hacky tricks they use to get it working right. Like with SM64 ASM hacks, most hacks could never run on real hardware because the hacky techniques they used were only done with emulator in mind. But a decompilation "hack" works more like a modification, the native code is being edited directly.

      Not gonna lie, but for a while now I've been thinking it'd make more sense just to give Sonic the Homing Attack and Metal Sonic the Thok. It'd let Sonic fit better an onboarding space for new players as "the default pick" while letting Metal take on the role of "High Speed, High Risk". Since he's an unlockable character, people would be used to the game by the time they got to play as him, so the difficulty and finesse of the Thok wouldn't turn players away or lead to "I'm just gonna rely on Tails flying me around." (Especially since Metal Sonic plays Solo.)

      @ Argonaut’s game devs were notorious liars even back in the day, and no one at the new company can be trusted too much.

      The big ace Saturn had over the PS1 is the 4MB ram cart and the Video CD card add ons, but much like the 32X+CD combo, very few games ever utilized these as a combo. And ironically, the ones they did also used 2D graphics

    Were a ROM not available, I'd assume this was a hoax. This is easily the most technically impressive 32X game I have ever seen. I was always under the impression that the pitiful draw rate to the framebuffer precluded anything from running full-screen (well nearly) at an acceptable framerate like this, but I sure was wrong! Incredible work! If I had one critique, it's that the FM sound effects are reproduced as low-quality samples (through 32X PWM?). I wish they'd just play back as FM, even if it means music channels dropping when they happen.

    • @eMorphized
      @eMorphized หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Of course a game just like it would run on a Saturn. It just can't be SRB2 because it's designed for software rendering on a Pentium and a linear graphical buffer. The Saturn is a game console, so it should have tile memory and mostly hardware rendering. "Porting" SRB2 would probably mean making a new engine for it, because there's no way software rendering on an SH2 could keep up. Most likely it would also need a new map format because parse time is precious. And by that point it wouldn't be SRB2 anymore.

    I’ve literally watched this video at least twice a day since it came out. I cannot explain how exciting this is! I absolutely have to get an everdrive to test this demo out. I’m really curious to test it on multiple different configurations of my hardware. I have had certain 32X games play different depending on what configuration I had assembled (different genesis board revisions plus the different 32X revisions). This is such a great time to be a retro game fan! And I’m so happy that the Sonic community has fans that are willing to make these kind of games happen!

    This is incredibly impressive and cool! Really excited to see how much would be possible to make work on the 32X. It doesn't need to all fit in a single ROM either, 2-3 zones divided on individual ROMs is always a valid solution. Multi-cartridge games with perhaps a shared SRAM are a tool I have expected the homebrew community to make more use out of, for a while now.
