Note. You can hold ctrl to see the bones in xray mode. Sorry again for the bad audio my setup isnt super fancy. If you catch me in a stream I might be able to teach a couple things and stuff.
You had one job, one job, and you screwed it up, if you can't move the head move the neck, if you can't get the front arm on pose, use the back one, if that don't work use the hip, use the rotation tool more often its made for this, and if that don't work, change the pose.
Steg, I know you'll probably never see this comment but, ever since I found your basic tutorial, I am so glad that I have watched your videos. Your vids have always been really helpful and I really like your SFM posters you have made. There really amazing and I wish you the best of luck on expanding your knowledge of SFM. You are one of the best at doing SFM posters.
I own one of those wooden posable art models, it helps a lot for planning poses for characters like Medic, Scout or anyone else with a similar body shape.
Hey, I'm from 2020 where the entire world went to hell for a few months, I have nothing else better to-do than to learn SFM and I really appreciate this tutorial, you did a great job.
I was going to watch this at 2x speed because I arrogantly thought that you would take forever to get to each point. Holy wow, I felt so humbled you have so much knowledge on the subject I learned more than I knew about the program watching this, thank you so much.
Btw another good tip completely unrelated: if you’re starting out with animating with rigged models (in gmod terms) weld the collar bone to the hand and use the arrow tool (I forgot what it’s called) on the hand if you want the arm to bend
Could you pls make a video about selecting a good background in sfm? sometimes it's so hard to find a good background among all parts of the map that actually fits the situation.
Question for SFM. For animation wise how can you stick a gun on his hand rig? And how are you getting the orange circle and swapping back the the yxz (models bones celection) If you reply will be a huge help for me. And thanks for the videos honestly
Drag the body part of the gun into the hand part of the model, to lock it. Then move the gunnso that it looks like it's in his hand. The gun now moves with the hand.
Well posing an animatronic (fnaf) is a different story because they have to be stiff cause there not like humans where their skin, bones, clothes can bend. Animatronics are plastic and metal well i guess you can still pose good useing them.
Depends on what the problem is. If it’s always been like that, I have some tips on sfm performance in my hand video. If not then reinstall. If that doesn’t work I would try google.
Whenever I try to pose a model I keep bending the body parts out of shape instead of actually grabbing the joints to properly pose certain parts of the model, what parts do I actually need to click to pose each body part properly?
Is there a tutorial on how to give SFM models cartoony outlines (NOT via AO Outlines Only), through altering VMT files? In particular, anime models? 🤔🤔🤔
Domix012 I’ve never seen that. What I’d do is, Verify the Cache. There should be videos on how to do that in steam. If that doesn’t work, go into the steamapps in your folders like before, should be videos on how to browse that and delete your SourceFilm Maker folder. Reinstall it then it hopefully should start working again.
Fingers / Hands can be tedious, but after getting the notch, it's rather simple. It is just annoying that it's starting to eat performance when you are moving a finger. Simple solution is to cut and shorten the shot you're working on.
Could be multiple reasons. Could be a broken model, which can be fixed by finding a working one on the workshop. You could also have local rotation on. Which if you don’t know what that is that’s not the problem. Or maybe your using the wrong item to move it. The workshop fix should work for sure tho
The pose is stiff. Not putting enough time into the spine is probably the biggest flaws I see in most SFM artist, the spine takes up like 60% of the whole body and is where you emphasize the line of action, If you don't play around with it enough you'll end up with a bad pose. Just one stiff part in your poster will make it stand out to a trained eye. One thing that really bugs me is where you placed the hand relative to the leg, it's supposed to rest on the leg, but you placed it in a way that is just is not comfortable. No one would rest their arm that way. His neck should also be resting down more. He doesn't look relaxed, he looks timid. You shouldn't rush tutorials. You had a good start, but the rest of the video falls flat on its face. I know this is just the real basics of posing, but if your example in itself is not a good example of good posing, it ruins the whole point. Sorry for big rant, but maybe don't rush videos so you can advertise your twitch channel.
My stuff focuses more on concept then it does accuracy. I already covered the whole spine thing early on. I’m thinking about just taking poster footage instead for tutorials since that might be easier
0:10 they ported a map to get this
*thats pretty damn impressive for a beginner*
Workshop is a thing lmao
@@Imgone12321 That’s why I commented, I’m familiar with it and at the time this map wasn’t on it lol

@@gunslingingbrokenmessiah That be funny.

pmsfl XDDDD

These tutorials are a god damn lifesaver. I don't think words exist that can properly convey how helpful these are.
Me:hey i did this poster but some of the models look stiff and i need to learn to better pose to fix it
Steg be like: I got you fam!
I think Scout broke bone in his shoulder. That must hurt.
Wait.... you don't have to manually do hands! *time to save hours*
Frosty why didn't I find thatout 5 hours ago...
LMAO I JUST FOUND OUT WTF
It took me seven fucking hours to make my heavys hand touch the minigun correctly
usually you rotate the entire hand with the red axis, whichever one that is.
Someguy Studios that would be the z axis
Finally I can try to make my SFM posters actually decent and not stiff! Thank you for this amazing tutorial!!

That depends on the feel your going for. For the most part you still can. Especially since it’s a video game not real life. (Or based in real life)
