    I disagree that Stolas is taking his frustration out on Octavia. His interactions with her are kind, he's just caught up dealing with Stella and not giving Octavia the attention he normally would.

    Stolas cheated on his *abuser* and from that got the courage to leave. Honestly, good for him. I think with time, Via will understand that.

    I'm not gonna defend cheating, but the situation is due to Stolas finally _breaking free of the abusive relationship_ not because of the cheating. And he was distracted and dropped the ball for sure, but "taking it out on Octavia" is an unhinged take!

      Exactly, Octavia is suffering from a divorse that is long overdue, and Stolas cheating isnt a reason for this divorse at all, Stella is not its initiator, and Stolas deserved to initiate this divorce with or without cheating.

      @@devo4ka_soso4ka Well, the cheating is *sort of* the catalyst for the divorce, Stolas seemed resigned to just suffer in silence and wait for death before Blitz dropped back into his life and gave him a taste for life again. The divorce is absolutely waaaay overdue.

      @@helenanilsson5666 if the question is "with cheating Stolas has the guts to divorce" or "without cheating Stolas does not have the guts to divorce", then him cheating was actually a good thing. I'm not saying it was, i think he would divorce Stella anyway, and Octavia would suffer from this divorce anyway, but your comment just further makes hating on this particular cheating pointless. Apparently, not every cheating is the same, and its not always a completely morally black thing to do (breaking news).

      @@devo4ka_soso4kaI’m someone who has been cheated on, but been able to work on the relationship (with therapy and professionals) and we’re amazing now. But I know I’m a special case, where the cheating was caused by a mix of alcohol and partner not even being honest with them selves, let alone me. There has to be effort to repair the relationship, especially by the cheater, if anything is possible to fix. But I’m not Stella, and the cheating wasn’t an escape from me, it was very different (and again, accountability and action is required for there to be anything to work on.). I even hesitate to say it, because everyone wants to tell me how my relationship is toxic whenever I bring it up, but I know that’s not true, lol, plus that was almost 10 years ago, and we’ve worked past it (again, professionals are really necessary, especially to help get to the root of the problem and make sure there isn’t anything else causing the cheating)

      Absolutely! Octavia is suffering from the divorce as someone already said, but more than that, the whole family, including Stella (but Stella the least) is suffering from an unhappy marriage that NEITHER OF THEM consented to. Stella clearly isn't satisfied and is an absolute b*tch about it and Stolas is stuck with an emotionally and physically abusive partner he didn't even want in the first place. Of course this will affect Octavia too. Stolas until now has done everything he could to give her a happy childhood despite it all, which she obviously deserves, but since Stolas HAD to have her, I wouldn't even really blame him if he resented her for it. That man has sacrificed his personal happiness for a child he was basically forced to have! Him seeking out happiness with someone he actually wants and breaking free from his forced toxic marriage is long overdue and if he doesn't get f*cked over by Stella and Stella doesn't take it out on Octavia, it'll be better for Octavia in the long run this way. A happy Stolas can be a way better father than a depressed one can be

    The cheating in this case is more a "run away from an abusive situation" kind of thing. And yes, Octavia feels bad about his parents having a divorce, but Stolas stayed in this for her daughter long enough and now she is not a little child anymore and her father has shown all his love to her in many ways and occasions, but she keeps moaning and moaning searching for attentions. Loona has a point in the scene in L.A., everyone has his own personal problems, even dads. Stolas has the right to be in another place with is mind and yes, he forget about the stars, but a divorce (and the thing with Blitz at Ozzy's) are heavy

    2 complete strangers are pushed by their respective into an arranged marriage together that neither of them asked for, agreed to or wanted. One tried for years to make it work in terms of being a family. The other either already was or eventually became mean, bitter, hateful, cruel, abusive and chose to spend the rest of her life making her partner miserable. Via is not the only person dealt a bad hand that they had no say in

    While I'm not trying to condone cheating, I think laying the blame on the cheating misses the mark slightly. Octavia is feeling this way because her parents are getting a divorce. Divorce happens for a myriad of reasons and while cheating certainly is one of them, it's not the only one. Imagine an alternate universe where Stolas didn't cheat but did decide to divorce Stella. Would Octavia's situation change at all? Not really. I don't blame Stolas for cheating, given the circumstances he was in, BUT, even if you do, I think it's erroneous to imply that it's the sole cause of Octavia's feelings, as if a divorce for any other reason wouldn't have led to the same thing.

  • @neyaneazrune548
    @neyaneazrune548 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

    While I do agree all this is hard on Via, Stolas shouldn't stop himself from divorcing for her, that's not the right thing to do. Plus I feel like he usually listens to her on the spot, for once he's not immediately available and it pisses her off because of everything else going on, but it doesn't mean Stolas truly doesn't care, he's trying but it's not easy on him either ^^'
    That scene with Via and Loona at the end really sums it up perfectly

  • @Paxtin
    @Paxtin 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    I wont weigh in on the Stolas thing,(Plenty of people already are.) I'll just say Loona pretty much addresses a good chunk of it fairly well in the show itself with her scene talking to Via.
    Speaking of Loona, the flashback scene with Blitz always gets me...The revelation that's conveyed as to why he cares so much for her, Blitz basically related to Loona's situation on some level. It's also kind of a heart breaking realization that Loona really is the only one we ever see Blitz openly expressing unconditional love for, even with how little she shows it back.
    Also, as an aside, good on ya for catching the poster about the water. So many of us often missed that detail first time around and were left somewhat confused about the studio scene later on.

    The cheating is probably largely immaterial to the chaos that is going on in Stolas and Octavia's life right now - it was a divorce that needed to happen, and was going to be ugly and messy either way, just given how Stella is*. Stolas and Octavia should have communicated better about the meteor shower (IDK if he knew just HOW important it was to her, but also should have listened better when she tried to remind him), but I'm glad they worked things out and had something else to enjoy and bond over.
    *Perfectly fine not to like the cheating, mind you - I just think this would have turned out much the same even if Stolas had taken the ideal route of break up first then pursue new relationship.
    It's important that they show Stolas and Blitz both worrying and caring about their daughters here, both as general character development...and as background to a choice Blitz makes in a later episode. Actually, the bit about how people can get hurt if you are prioritizing based on incomplete information is relevant too!

  • @JovialRoger
    @JovialRoger 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

    Parents are people before they are parents. Yes Stolas forgets the significance of the current date, but his separation from Stella would have been painful for Octavia regardless, but it was also necessary. I kept a lot of aspects of my personal life sequestered from my child because I didn't want him to experience the revolving door of romantic partners I saw so often in 90s media featuring single parents, and frankly we are both worse off for it. I gave up on a lot of relationships early on because they seemed risky, despite my desire for a partner being the thing I want most in life, and he grew up never experiencing or seeing a healthy long-term relationship. Parents can at best do what they think is best, but they are always going to have failures and the children will experience trauma, that is not a failure, that is our lot as imperfect beings.
    EDIT: Also, because I had your thoughts in mind at the transition, I realized that Blitzo and Stolas are mirroring each other in the beginning of the episode and both unintentionally upsetting their daughters by doing so. Stolas is prioritizing his own stuff, and Blitzo is prioritizing supporting Luna over his own needs as a business owner.

    How do you interpret Octavia's situation being any different whether Stolas cheated or not? Either way the marriage was doomed and staying in a broken relationship hurts children far more? I agree he was to preoccupied with Stella over Octavia but that's got nothing to do with cheating.

  • @benl.ofthegamecatarmy

    I think you're confusing the Cheating for the Divorce, the cheating didn't break their family because it was always broken. The divorce is absolutely necessary for Stolas' health and well-being you can't blame him for that and it isn't like the divorce is being caused by the cheating

  • @roujin518
    @roujin518 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is more about dealing with parents that are getting a divorce than about Stolas cheating.
    If Stolas hadn't cheated and just announced that morning they were getting a divorce it would have had the same result to Octavia. (this is pretty obvious by the language they are using which is common for parents going though a divorce.)

I do agree about the cheating, I understand where he’s coming from that it is understandable, and may have been necessary for him to break out of the life he was shackled to, but still not forgivable. It has repercussions that are hurting his daughter like you said, and it’s not that Stella is upset that he cheated, it’s that he cheated with an imp, the second lowest class in all of hell, the lowest being hellhounds. The whole thing with Stolas is very much a gray area in terms of moral actions(Which is what makes for interesting story telling.)...At the end of it all no one in the situation is %100 blameless.
