It’s speculated that when the Pilgrims came to the Americas, they smelled really bad. Because natives bathed regularly in their rivers and streams, the natives were disgusted by their stench so they would light incense and try everything to block out their smells when the pilgrims were near. The pilgrims thought that it was normal for them to do that, but it really wasn’t...

The long leggings were seen as feminine, because obviously to them the cold was not an issue... As there was no cold.
Furthermore it was indeed a mark of being foreign, a barbarian because only the northern tribes wore these.
They had also held the belief that nobody could live North of Germany as it would be too cold. Turned out there were people living there. And in fact this is where the Germanic tribes had come from.
I think the only reason they had to change their mind is out of necessity, being stationed in Northern Gaul and Southern Britain.

I actually found this interesting because I genuinely always wondered about it. With so many historical period drama's on TV out there I always wonder what they did when I came to costumes and scenes that involved the actor being in historical underwear. Like they would need to be as accurate as they can to the time period. and also without the accurate undergarments the main clothing and costumes wouldn't work because you would need to create a very specific silhouette. Also I just have an interest in historical clothing.

Women didn’t wear Corsets until the 1840s. They wore Stays during the late 17th and 18th Centuries and before that they wore “Pairs of Bodies” during the 16th and 17th Centuries. But before 1598 there is no record of women wearing stays or corsets only Kirtles with stiffens bodices.

Wide skirts made it easier for women to pee. I read of two women standing on a lawn chanting then walking away after passing their water. They would do this in the corridors of large houses. They could also lift the hoops and sit on a toilet seats holding the fabric out of the way. Other times a cup like a gravy boat could be passed through the layered clothing.

Now I'll be singing Thong Song all day lol 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 still wonder where did the name drawers come from? I was taught that it was a rather uncouth to call them such things.

In the 1960s we wore divided half slips called "pettipants." These were the silky nylon fabric. These appeared again in the 1980s as "city shorts." Very handy worn under a long tunic with tights that became the latest silhouette.

Did she do one on menstruation? Because when I read about that my mind was blown. 🤯

I don’t think she did....but she does have videos on birth control. In a further down comment, Lindsay Holiday says she’s doing a video on menstruation in March, for International Women’s Day.

Funfact: Breeches (as similar to today) were first worn by both men and women by Central Asian Nomads like Scythians, Huns and Mongols. Greeks and Romans learnt this from them.
