- Com Truise walks through the chain of effects he puts on his drums to achieve his signature, saturated sound in this excerpt from his in-depth Soundfly course, Com Truise: Mid-Fi Synthwave Slow-Motion Funk: soundfly.com/c...
--
About the Video:
Watch Seth Haley, a.k.a. Com Truise break down the elements in his go-to "drum funk" effects rack that he applies to standard programmed drums to give them a retro, distorted feel - including D16's Devastor, Kilohearts' Disperser, and Softube's Transient Shaper, Harmonics saturation processor, and Tape, as well as Ableton Live's built-in tools. Check out his full-length course to hear the before and after effect that the "Drum Funk Rack" has on his final track: soundfly.com/c...

Been listening to his music for years. This man is incapable of creating a bad track
So true. I discovered him as soon as he came out, and he was a revelation. Original music, but with vintage synth sounds.
I think the B-rally video set to "Hyperlips" was the first video I saw.
This video feels like it should be illegal. This is the video I've wanted for so long.
This is the equivalent of a magician telling you how his tricks are done. Priceless!!! Love this guys music.
hopefully it can lead to an explosion of Hom Tanks, Prad Bitt and others
Met this guy after his show really awesome dude
Com Truise has such a good aesthetic touch
3:18 thank you for keeping this honesty in the video!
Com Truise is a legend in my book! 🔥💚🎹🌊
Com Truise is a legend. Met him before or after a number of his shows and he's the chillest, nicest, most humble dude ever. If you didn't know that he makes the sickest synthwave beats youve ever heard, you'd have no clue he's so low-key lol. THANK YOU SETH, LOVE YEW SETH
this dude is my hero.
Love com truise, always wondered about his studio process!
Dude I've been trying to figure out your drum sound for like ten fucking years and I'm so mad that it's this easy
Super awesome! Thanks. I will be using this.
Wow, this changes everything as a producer for me, I’ve always listened to your stuff Aventura wondered how some of the dynamics were achieved. Not wanting to bite, but I’ve got some great ideas on what i can do differently now.
Love what he does but also amazed he has those real deal drum machines yet uses and swears by plug-in drums 😯
That is how good software has gotten. It is standard in the industry now, to use software as often as hardware, even when you have access to both.
The softube Fet compressor with the parrallel blend knob is amazing.
This helped.
Is it the guy who played in Gop Tun?
Man, some nice hardware there !
Legend
Where's the reverb coming from on the kick drum?
That's his secret sauce. Ableton default reverb.
JK its probably in the sample like kickmod01.wav
Hello, i have read your interview on splice blog and i have a question please, wat is for you the Best between your crumar bit and your juno? And why? Which do you keep between thé two if must make a choice? Thanks
Interesting to see little to no use of eq a or hp filtering here. Is this the production ableton project or the final project? Like is there further processing? I might have to get this series. He deffo gain matches everything
Idk but I made the exact same rack as him and can confirm it really sauces up drums HARD like not even joking it can even make unison drum monkey shit sound decent
Master
He has a Crumar Bit One synth. Only people who make deals with the Devil have those lol He is ACE!
How long is this course?
What is the song at the end of the video?
It's a track called "Dynetics" that you watch Com Truise build in the course. No plans for a formal release, but it's available for download to students in the course.
How do I get a hold of you Seth?? I met ya in indy twice, once outside of the HiFi in Indianapolis, I need you to DJ my wedding in September 2023. I'll pay you!!

Yeah I'ma stop you right there, did you just say "Asscillated?"
Vacillated. In a context of choices, it means to mentally sway back and forth in an unsure way between two possibilities.
