Anne more than deserved that Oscar. Her performance in this movie, particularly I dream a dream should be studied. Such a brilliant and haunting performance.
I thought that until I saw Gravity. I don't think Sandra Bullockd gave a better performance but won because her character had a greatly larger role. Gravity is basically about one person.
Está producción debería reveerse el enorme y genial trabajo de excelencia en los protagonistas locaciones manufactura musical brillantez genial muchos más premios 🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
I swear I’ll never get tired of this musical. It’s so lovely and so personal, and there’s something very moving about it, it just burns your blood and you feel something boiling inside you. You feel the spirit and the strength, you can feel the hard work they put in. The extra miles they went through to make this a more epic movie.
I never get tired of it either. Beautiful story and music is out of this world. Very special. Was able to see and experience " Les Miserables" twice on stage in Philadelphia. And have Royal Albert Hall 1985 concert on DVD and movie with Hugh Jackman and Annie Hathaway. This muclscal is the best musical ever as far as I am concerned. Nothing comes close!!!!!❤❤
One of the things I appreciate about this film (which was how I was introduced to Les Mis- you can say whatever you want about Russel Crowe but this movie will always have a special place in my heart) is that, in the musical, "Lovely Ladies" has this raunchy, rowdy, almost comical sound, but in the movie it's traded for a darker, eerier, sinister sound. I think that really captures the danger and the awful place Fantine is in while the song takes place. This movie was a doorway into a whole new world for me. Les Mis was one of the first musicals I fell in love with, and it was all because of this film. I watched it with my mom when I was a middle schooler, then shortly after that my friend found the book for me at the library and I read it and loved it, and then I had the amazing privilege of playing Gavroche in a production of the musical. Les Mis will forever hold a special place in my heart and is truly one of the greatest books/movies/musicals ever made.
I've always HATED musicals. When I first watched this movie at the picture theatre... after a couple of minutes... I was so deeply disappointed to discover that this movie was a bloody musical!! Admittedly, I was both disappointed but also highly impressed with the power of the opening song (Look Down). By the end of the movie, I was in absolute tears, and I realised I'd just watched the greatest movie I'd ever seen. To this day, it is my absolute favourite movie! I guess I do like musicals, after all.
I'm going to save this review and show it to my brother. I've been trying to get him to go see this with me, for years. He hates musicals. Your comment gives me hope.
As a musician, I am completely in awe of what these people have accomplished here. It’s so much hard work for everyone! And the orchestra having to sync with the playback... incredible. It must have been a great experience and a lot of fun anyway though!
I have watched every version of Les Miz there is to watch! The dramatic movie, several stage productions and this movie. This production is unlike anything in any other musical ever made. The casting, the sets, the production value and, of course, the music of this movie is in an unparalleled class all by itself. An absolutely timeless masterpiece that I will enjoy again and again! No one has ever done it better, or ever will.
I had known the story for a long time. However when I saw this movie I cried like I have never cried over a movie before. This was, for me, a great movie and the actors were great.
Unless you’ve worked on a feature film -let alone an epic, you can never know what hard work it is. It’s like being in a war and the comrades you meet and make your friends are often forever - because no one, but those who’ve gone through it , understand the sacrifice and the glory of it. It’s also like childbirth. When you’re in labor, you swear you’ll never do it again But then the phone rings.
Javerret and John Val Jaun was awesome in this movie!!!!!!!!! I love these guys. This movie was so great. It didn’t get as much recognition as it should have.
Incredible video of a movie being made mostly on location with music being performed on set. As mentioned technology made it possible. I don't think any other movie has had the music done at same time. I've seen a stage version produced by Cameron Mackintosh & the film.
I watched the original Swedish Production of Les Mis and I fell in love, back in the 80s and I ran to the library and ready Victor Hugo's book. My dream role is Eponine
I waited for what felt like forever for this musical to be a feature film and recall thinking as the film started that Tom Hooper had better not fumble this or his professional life is over - he didn’t fumble. But - knowing Colm Wilkinson’s deep connection to LM, to see him as the bishop was perfection.
Hugh Jackman is an absolute talent, you only need to watch the boy from oz or Oklahoma to see his amazing voice. Yet the director in this had him not drink for three days and sing for 8 hours straight? It’s absurd, the fact he sounded as good as he did is insane - but imagine if the actors were allowed to just do this musical in a conventional way.
It wasn't the director 's choice, it was Hugh's. He wanted to look like the character has been on hard labour and minimal rations for 19 years. One way to do that is to dehydrate yourself so your skin shrinks. It's a horrific process but I know some boxers do it.
This was a perfect way to begin my Lent devotion to what it means to be a Christian, and extra was listening to Les Misérables. Thank You Hillsdale College.
I've the show both in theater. and on TV and the movie, all were excellent, and for Hugh to ger advice from Colm Wilkinsin himself must have been an hinnorQ
I have this disk and you should rent or buy it if you do not have it yet. I honestly cannot decide which version I like best. This one or the 10th anniversity one that Michael Ball was Marius in.
They keep talking about how it was hard to cast this film because you needed actors who could also sing. But even after all of this work and them hitting the "sweetspot" of a cast, they still can't compete with the broadway performances.

She makes me cry every time I hear “I dreamed a dream” they were all so good
I watched Les miserables for the first time and that song, fantines death and little fall of rain. I was BAWLING
kind of a snooze fest tho

Samantha Barks is such a talent.
i watched her on stage in Pretty Woman Broadway show.. she was amazing!!
I'm crying now. She's so wonderful

I had never seen it on stage either. I love it
anne’s emotional connection to fantine is beautiful and translates so perfectly through screen
I love Eddies rendition of empty chairs and empty tables.
We want Eddie on the stage show now.
I've always HATED musicals.

@Cplm92017 Indeed the picture theatre.

Loved it. Curious, no questions to Sacha Baron or to Helena Bonham…
This helps me fall in love with theater again
I agree❤

you mean Javert and Jean Valjean?

Have watched it over and over again, played the music over and over again. Will continue to do so !!
One of my flexes is that I’ve got a picture with the guy who played the foreman because I saw him in Hamilton as King George III
I watched the original Swedish Production of Les Mis and I fell in love, back in the 80s and I ran to the library and ready Victor Hugo's book. My dream role is Eponine
Always loved theatre. Les Mis the Best! And ❤ the movie!
Loved watching this movie and i still do. I do wish that there were more from the Broadway production who were being used.

thank you so much for uploading this!!!!
Thank you! This is the best!
Watching this in preparation for my role as M. Thenardier on our school's production of Les Miserables 😊

I still experience chills & tears watching and listening
You end up crying half way through, when you sing " On MY OWN" and "I dreamed a dream"

Fantastic cast. Fantastic film💗👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Excellant screen production and stage production.
Thankyou all so much for your hard work and talent. Amazing can not thank you enough.❤❤❤
Absolutely incredible!
My most favourite film of all time!!
aahhh the first thing I noticed about Russel Crowe was his Australian accent.

Ane y Hugh / Rossell 🙏❤💙💙🙌🙌🙌

Qué maravilla. Gracias.
Love the movie but it would be nice if they recasted some people for people who could actually sing
Ithink that goes for a stage play, in the movie I think Russell’s acting was an absolute fit.
