    I would change one thing for operation more than construction:
    rope porosity.
    I think of grubby hands extending from fidgety people in line. I think of an occasional airborne slice and wafting marinara. I think of bacteria with no easy surface to clean.
    I see 2 main options: a spray coat/dip that coats pourous fibers into a textured surface or a materials sleeve. I recommend the second because a sleeve can be spot cleaned daily and removed for machine cleaning monthly. Benny's website shows colors of red, white, black, and khaki. A sleeve can intertwine these colors to mimic the rope or use solid colors changing at each stanchion. I like the idea of people texting friends, "I am almost at the red sleeve. You have to tell me what you want now."

    The texturing process demonstrated in the other video looked grueling. I was going to suggest usimg a hammer drill on hammer-only mode until Tay wisely indicated concern for deformation. It makes sense the walls are thick enough for college kids jumping on them but not thick enough for metal-on-metal abuse.

    Ive wanted a fixture/fab block table for so long ive decided to make one since they are more than i can afford its 4x6 1/4 plate ive mag drilled 60 holes so far. Only 800 more to go :) its about a minute per hole to drill sooo it sucks, but hopefully when its done ill be so happy ill forget all about drilling all the holes, i dont trust the burn table guy at work to set it up so its accurate as possible and i dont have a shop sabre yet so unforntunatly this is my only other option. Anyways nice forging of the post. Starting to become my new fav channel

    I like the method, but my first thought was widen the hole in the top of the Dome and feed more of the rod thru to the sand filled part and plate bottom then tack it. There'd be less to chop off and in my head this feels sturdier but may be unnecessary. Love the Vids!

    • @kpsteigstra
      @kpsteigstra ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly this. Plus you can weld the dome on the inside, hiding the weld. And use some jig setup to get the rod level and centered. Fill with sand and close it up with bottom circle plate with a hole to plugweld.

    One thing to consider - it isn't necessary to go to 1/8 of an inch on a free standing item. A half inch is close enough (taller), after all it is just a guide rope stanchion.

    To get your spray cans to work properly in the cold, heat them up in a bucket of warm to hot water. Not too hot for too long or kaboom, but do it right and your paint will flow nicely.

    I love ur workshop/fabrication shop Tay man.. U have some great machines in it too. WHat a real piece of luck u got having so many old machines in it from back in the day. That WW2 Belt sanding machine is a beauty ..
    That little insert from KING OF THE HILL was brilliant.. LOL
    I also love that u have ur own forklift too man. Have u always had that or did u get it from u dad's place??
    I have a question if u have a minute..
    Q. Could u give me some good advice about welding thinner materials together? I want to build a new Kitchen table for a family member but as a complete Newb I want to weld some 3mm thick Square tubing. I want to make some weird shaped legs instead of the boring old square shaped legs but I need to ask how hot I can run my stick welder for 2.5-3mm thick SQ Tubing..
    I actually bought a cheaper 2 in 1 welder which has Stick & Lift TIG and I have another Stick welder which I will run for just Stick. The TIG welder i wanna keep just for TIG. I'm a woodworker tbh but I love to try new things and welding is one thing I always wanted to learn. Another question if u have another moment Tay..Plz..
    Q. Why do I need to be using 100% pure ARGON GAS with TIG?? I'm finding that the gas is so damn expensive here in IRELAND.
    Q. How quickly can a newbie like me run through an 11.00 bottle of Argon gas. Somebody said gas runs away whether it's being used or not?? Is this ture mate?
    Huge respect from Dublin, IRELAND!

      First off, thanks for reaching out and for the kind words my man! Trying to get to as many comments as i can but ill give your questions a whirl here.
      Got the forklift from Blackdog, dad did make me a killer deal...lol, its the perfect size for the shop
      Im not the best to ask for welding thinner metal with a stick welder, but as with any welder on thinner stuff, the answer is heat control. i find its better to move faster with a medium sort of amperage than to turn the amperage way down and move slow. at a slower speed, lower amperage can actually end up putting more heat into the part than a higher amperage moving faster along the weld. you have to "stay ahead of the heat". I would use the TIG welder for thinner stuff, but lift arc tig is tough too, takes a fine touch. Id recommend a foot pedal and sort of manually pulsing to establish the puddle then back off the heat and move along
      Im not entirely sure chemically why you need to use 100% argon with TIG welding, maybe you could get away with using 72/25? but ive never tried.
      I dont know what an 11.00 bottle of argon is, it doenst go anywhere if youre not using it though
      cheers man! - Tay

    The yellow cap on your propane is the filler. The black cap is the relief valve, and you are correct that the main valve is liquid. it would turn your torch into a flame thrower.

    Love your videos. So entertaining on so many levels. If my wife watched this one, she would say "Oh, that is so locker room", a comment I have gotten many times over the years. Couple of questions: (1) If you spend $9000 on hemispheres (half balls), why not splurge a couple of hundred on a few spare propane tanks; the ergonomic benefit should be obvious, and (2) Is that rope really going to fit through those eyelets? And, on another topic, are "Lows Angle-ese" and "Department of Redundancy Department" Firesign Theater references? Thanks, and keep 'em coming.

    • @LiftArcStudios
      @LiftArcStudios  ปีที่แล้ว

      When you have a fab shop full of goofy guys you're bound to end up in some "locker-room" type conversations haha! As for question #1, I'll go ahead and suggest that to Tay! Couldn't hurt to have some backup propane tanks. And #2, Tay will actually be fitting some metal caps with hooks on them to connect the rope to the stanchions. I should have made that more clear in the video, but you'll see how it turns out in this week's video! I did have to look up Firesign Theater, but boy am I glad I did! Had me chuckling while working today. Thanks for watching! - Walker

      @@LiftArcStudios Fond memories of literally ROFL in someone's dorm room way back in the day, listening to Firesign on vinyl. Best consumed in altered states of consciousness. Actually saw them live in 1970 in Providence and was amazed to watch them do an improv show creating their sound effects on the fly. They provided us many nonsensical quips, which when thrown into conversations, provoked strange looks from those not familiar with their repertoire. Glad you enjoyed it! And remember, we're all Bozos on this bus.

    Hey Tay, if you want to know another handy tape measure feature that most people never appreciate, take a second to admire the hook on the end. It should slide back and forth just enough to take up the difference when you're pushing it up against something as compared to hooking it over the end of something else. Otherwise the thickness would throw off the reading one way or the other.
