Your interpretation of the lyrics is interesting and when I first listened to it, I thought of something similar except that the ones doing the saving are from the younger generation of humans.

Definitely could be another way of interpreting the lyrics. The aerials line made me settle on the idea of aliens, but the idea of the next generation is plausible too
