You have pretty serious damage to the bottom of the boat and the shaft log area. That huge crack is a structural area and needs to be properly fixed. That is going to require more than a few layers of tape and fiberglass. Since you live on that boat, I think it world be well worth your time to find a proper marine expert to consult with on proper repair for the underwater sections of the hull.
Cut it out drill 4 holes along each side fill with thickened epoxy then place angle iron across crack tighten all bolt until the crack is flush then fiberglass over crack .
That weld job is an absolute failure!!! Whoever did that for you should be paying you for the damage he caused. Also, FYI, if you see "pink" on the bronze anywhere on your boat, IT'S NO GOOD!!!! "Especially" the through hull fittings and running gear!! I do wish you the best of luck with it but you definitely may have bitten off more than you can chew. That boat is going to cost a fortune to make right, if it's even possible.
Next time I will rent the welding machine and do it myself. I have welding experience. I just know that I never tried to weld stainless steel so I decided to hire someone. But jeez, I’m sure I would do better 🤣 I know about pink on bronze and we are planning to deal with it during next hull out so it is already in our plans. @YachtCityLife There is no waste unless it is your money when you find something major. For $50k to fix it up, you could get a better boat without the crack in it.
@@YachtCityLife Yes. I'm currently checking the market for a 45ft center cockpit sailboat. I went to view a couple of boats and the cheaper the boat, the more problems they seem to have. I got to one 43 ft boat for $17K only to find out one of the shrouds was broken off from the deck that wasn't listed. I called around for a quote to replace the rigging and I got $8500. The boat took on water and they wasn't sure of the engine that went under. Possibly another $20k. Now the $17k was looking more like $45k+. And the bottom needed cleaning and painting
Sadly the damage you found during haul-out is typical of a boat not maintained properly. It will take you a while to resolve all the maintenance problems but when you do you will end up with a fantastic live aboard house boat all the best sorting everything out
