You really have to deal with epoxy or at least paint (to seal) that untreated pine you’re using. That’s really not meant to be used in a marine environment. Nice work and I like your perseverance.
Well happy birthday to you. I love the channel the content, I can’t wait to get my own trawler and do the same kind of things to it, and cruise the great northwest. We are all cheering for you, keep up the great work. 💪 Indy Chris
@@chriskent4 Thank you for your Birthday Wishes Indy! I'm glad that you enjoyed what we are doing! Looking forward to hearing more about your trawler 🔥
Really enjoying your videos - lots of amazing work you guys are doing. For all that old tape, sealant, etc. Goo Gone is what you use in your kitchen. For marine use, you need to get a real solvent like 3M 38984. This will make short work of any old glue, is what you use to clean fresh 3m 5200 marine sealer, and in general will make cleaning old residue a simple task. Good luck!
@@YachtCityLife Correct! But when it gets on your fingers, on cloth, on tools, etc. the 3M remover will get it right up. 38984 also helps like I said with all the other glue and sticky residue much better than goo gone. Keep up the great work!
@@albertpenello that's true, but if you use towels and gloves right away, nothing is left in sealant (at least we didn't have this problem) But thank you, we'll know for the future 🔥

Maintaining an old boat is like a dog chasing their tail. They do it because it's fun, it's a never ending source of entertainment, and the faster you run, the faster you need to. Good to see a non boater use basic problem solving skills to fix the issues as they arise, but you really should get a marine surveyor just to check the structural integrity and give you a heads up on any potential life threatening issues
Happy Birthday Dima's wishes patience. Good you are rebuilding what a courage, is it the good wood maybe but to my knowledge this wood is for a house not a boat!!
Happy Jam Day Dimon!😄 That's what they say in Russia! And as for your boat and how you repair it, there is doubt that the wood you use around the windows is not protected from moisture in any way. It seems to me that it was worth protecting each bar with something first and then inserting it, not the other way around! You are on the water and the boat is always in an atmosphere of high humidity, which penetrates everywhere, but for now all this repair does not look durable. And in fact, I will be very glad if these beams will last you a long time... but perhaps you should still think about it! Respect from Russia, from the shore of Lake Baikal!
Is there any reason why you couldn't use polyurethane to seal the replaced wood pieces to try to prevent future water damage and rot before installing them? I'm just wondering...I know nothing about restoring boats, but was just thinking about ways to seal the wood parts to try to prevent future rotting, as everything on a boat...sooner or later, gets wet...over and over. You are very lucky you have the talent to take on this project doing the work yourselves! Doing a great job too, may I add!!!
I mean there is a lot of options that we can do to seal that wood to prevent future water damage. Because we are planning huge renovation in the near future we decided to make it fast because this wood repair wasn’t in our scope from the beginning. But even how we did it should be more than enough for a several years. And yeah thanks for watching and stay tuned because there is more to come 🚀
