    That "heavy" chocolate babka had me in cacao-induced raptures🤪!!! I'm not Jewish, but as a child, my babysitter was a lovely elderly Jewish woman. Now I love good seafood, but when I was little, I hated the stuff. She had me taste gefilte fish and it rocked my taste buds. It wasn't really fishy tasting, so it was a good springboard for me. I also discovered prepared horseradish sauce. I love steak with horseradish sauce! My parents tasted gefilte fish too and they loved it. We used to wait until after the Jewish holidays when a lot of times it would be on sale. I also love latkes and buttery challah. This was a fantastic foodie pilgrimage. Many thanks.

    What a cool dude . I love that he starts off with asking about sefradic and Ashkenazi food. I wouldn’t say the majority of us are spain more Middle East North Africa . ( althou certainly many were in Spain before kicked out)

    • @josiahtaylor
      @josiahtaylor 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Middle-eastern Jewry is referred to as "Mizrachi". Which is itself different in culture from Temani (Yemeni) Jewry and Ethiopian Jewry.

    • @bananamelon3721
      @bananamelon3721 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Actually most of the sefaradim come from Spain and North Africa as Morocco and Tunisia were the second home to the Jewish people at the time of Babasale and the abuhassera family. Even before but before the inquisition in the late 15th century, Most Jews in general were in Europe and a big part of that was Spain and France where Spanish had the majority of the Sefardic community and France had the second biggest sefaradic community with also ashkenazim like Rashi.

    • @bananamelon3721
      @bananamelon3721 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Then from Spain they went to the closest place Morocco and some went to Syria and turkey where they influenced the sefaradic traditions further with their national cultures.

    My father, who was a good ol' fashioned Knights of Columbus Catholic, grew up in the West Farms area of the Bronx when it was still a heavily Jewish neighborhood, and one Jewish thing he learned was his way around a Jewish deli, which became a life long habit. Whenever we passed a Jewish deli, he had to stop in for a Pastrami sandwich, herrings in sour cream and a big hunk of halvah for desert. Me, I liked the pastrami & halvah, but passed on the fish. He'd say, "Try it. It's good. It's just like candy," but I wasn't buying.

I didnt love that you described sephardic as being "like a diff religion" so Id integrate good sephardi places. Besides that, midwood has great restaurants! Slices of Brooklyn and cafe renaissance on kingshwy, pizza time, bagel hole , essen deli and Jerusalem steakhouse (shawarma) on ave j, subsational and josephs dream burger on P, and much more. Id throw in smash house burgers to see if hed notice the difference bt soy cheese and real, etc. Their "dirty fries" are great too. Great video!

Coney Island Olympia Steakhouse or called Olympic Pita. Try the kosher Shawarma and the shish kebabs and don’t leave without trying all their Sephardic and Israel salad. And get the Shawarma in a lafa. It’s a big flat Pita and they make it fresh there. If you get the shish kebabs and you eat in you get all that fresh made bread you want deliver to your table. Enjoy. So many authentic Sephardic and Israel restaurants that are kosher in my area. I’ll come up with more till then. I’m gonna continue watching as this is my first video of yours.

    This guy is awesome, such a great personality! I wish it was possible to do the reverse where he takes a jewish guy around to the black soul food places, would be impossible with kosher but would really be something to watch! What you could do is buy kosher meat and ingredients and ask him to get some buddies to make a real cookout on a kosher grill. I would personally love to see that happen.
