''Individuals like Gilles only come to earth once. He was truly unique and I would have liked to see what career he would have had without this accident. Gilles would have been crowned world champion, I am 100% convinced of that.'' Mario Andretti

Gilles always had that 'daredevil/stuntman' feel to him, not just 'racecar driver'. He drove with his balls.

Watching GV maintain control while avoiding any collision during positional battle is truly astounding. Too many races and championships won on avoidable "accidents" during Senna's and Schumacher' career.

Unfortunately the only way races are won now are from avoidable accident.

I always wonder what might've been if Gilles had won that 1982 San Marino GP...

I just think that Piccinini (d.s. Ferrari) would advantage Pironi in next races....Fiat liked pironi, not Gilles

I would have died early anyway. With his driving style and the risks he took outside of his racecar, it's a miracle he survived long enough to die in an f1 car.

Nothing. Not in that dysfunctional operation known as "Ferrari."
Gilles at McLaren? (Which he was planning on for 1983)... there's no telling what he would have accomplished. He also had interests of the Indianapolis 500.
Which is why after his son won both the 500 and the WDC answered the "what if" questions us fans had back in 1982.

Well for FIAT, that all worked out swell in a powerboat race 1987.

pironi vs gilles, pironi's car has more downforce...has wings gilles didnt have front wings. pironi did not qualify as well as gilles but his aero set up was advantageous on racing where he could slip stream on the straight and overtake during braking or cornering. it is amazing that gilles could still take him during braking or cornering

Jaques might be a world Champion, but he wasn't as good as Gilles. If not for his tragic accident, he would have been world Champion, for sure.

Gilles Villeneuve was the only driver that Enzo Ferrari loved like his own son

Peak Jacques still was good among the best. He came to F1 when he was at his peak and pretty "old", and from his championship he only got older and slower.
Gilles had more stuntman vibes, more balls, Jacques was a refined version of that. He would've been WC too. But Jacques earned it.

Villeneune foi o rei das cagadas monumentais!
O Murray não gostava do Senna, porque Senna teve muitas disputas com pilotos ingleses.
Villeneune não chegou nem perto da genialidade de um Airton Senna.
