- The legendary smg Recluse is back in Destiny 2 with the Brave Arsenal in Into the Light, dropping from Onslaught. Here's my full review of this legendary weapon and recommendations for perks and rolls. Is it as good as it used to be? Should you bother farming for a good one? Let's chat about it.

My impression so far is that it’s fine. Just fine. Half the time it feels like I’m shooting invisible marshmallows, half the time it gets the kill pretty quick.

And how could the recluse replace that?
However, Title also gives class ability energy. Which is super helpful with getting rifts. I almost dismantled my Title, but decided against it.

The nerf to master of arms really killed this gun
Default master of arms would have just made it a menace in PVP again. Honestly if it had at least 14 zoom it'd feel much much better. Master of arms isn't even bad. It's very good. It's just not so incredibly unbalanced like old MoA was.
@@crescentjester make it behave different in PvE. keep it at 20% for PvE and make it 15% in PvP.
@@crescentjester it would but they could’ve at least increased the timer if they nerfed the perk and in PvE you might as well use frenzy and the only reason to use this over funnel web is the origin trait but some might like viest stinger better just because you can get more shots off
This. What made Recluse "The" Recluse. The nerf took away its identity and made it belong nowhere. All of these reprisals are nothing more than trying to add crutches to a dead imposter.
@@vikareus3500 agreed they made it into a worse frenzy for PvE and for PvP there’s just better options but every other gun is definitely better than its last iteration
I agree.. But everytime people recommend the submission, I try it... Crafted up, enhanced. And hate it.
You haven’t had your time with it yet. The first time you have killing wind and encore x4 going, and you wipe a whole team hitting only crits, man it all clicks and next thing you know you have 1k pvp kills on it. Speaking from experience lmao.
I mostly grabbed it for PvE, Since I mostly rock 900rpm smgs, and play voidlock. Previously was using Hero's Burden since it is the only other 900 that can roll Destabilizing Rounds, but the Recluse is much more of a laser. PVP I stick with Shayura.

Bro I had a Hero’s Burden with armor piercing round plus destabilizing. “I don’t know why I ever got rid of it??!!!”

Repulsor Brace/Desperate Measures is great for my PVE Contraverse Hold build.
I plan to try out a Repulsor Brace + Frenzy roll with Gyrfalcon. The 28 base reload on this thing is just so bad, but Frenzy maxes out Handling and Reload.
13 zoom feels so bad 😔
There's just literally still no reason to not use shayuras. It's crazy.

Dynamic sway and TtT for dueling. Works great for me!
This perk combo with max range of 70 really helps the gun hang
I’m wondering what Enhanced Master of Arms will be? More damage could change a lot.

It's nice to hear a destiny content creator not sold or over hyped about the new Recluse. It's softer than Charmin.

I use Out Of Bounds for my Titan HoIL build. Got Demo and AJ on it, always reliable on mid tier content.

I have one with enlightened action and it feels great, i have never really used this perk before.
2:25 that’s how I felt using recluse too. Once you get out of range a little around 17m it gets REALLY hard to hit the enemies.
One smg like this that is arguably my favorite is Prolonged Engagement. I have a really good Adagio roll that’s so good in PvP.

I agree. We’ve powercrept way past the recluse’s prime.
At the time, it was really the only thing going. We have so many choices now. Makes me a bit sad.
It is less about powercreep and more about how master of arms was gutted multiple times. MoA used to be a 50% damage buff that also increased body shot damage by 150%. If it released like that again, it would be the best primary in the game.
I wouldn't say powercrept, necessarily. Pre nerf master of arms would 100% be broken in todays sandbox, its just been nerfed too many times to be relevant.
A 50%/150% body shot damage boost for killing with any weapon was insane
@@NoSmoke1you're 100% right. Prime recluse was broken like no other weapon i have played with. But after they sunsetted it they nerfed master of arms making it useless whilst other perks kept getting updated to match newer stronger perks.

@@Filth777 power creep isnt the same as nerfing power creep is when new and more powerful weapons are introduced. Nerfing is reducing a something directly.
I got a repulsor brace master of arms with max range I used for a few games on gyrfalcons hunter, not my favorite msg but didn’t hate it
The current map set coupled with the current sandbox make this a better pve weapon right now. Desperate measures dynamic sway reduction with decent reload and stability is my shiny hunt atm.
I wish recluse atleast had rangefinder in the left column, would've probably made it a lot better. Also, is it just me or does out of bounds flinch like crazy. I don't have rangefinder on mine but even with tap the trigger and decent stability it felt terrible when being shot.
Yeah I'm with you man. I got my desired roll and used it for an entire Onslaught run and just hated it. I did the next run with Funnelweb and it was so much better.

Zoom only matters on controller where your target acquisition is impacted.
Have to agree. Tried a few rolls and it just didn’t feel good. Slapped on shayuras and it’s like the sun came out. Doesn’t bode well for lunas….
I think that the bottom line with this weapon is essentially getting Master of Arms and either Enlightened Action or Hip-Fire Grip. Master of Arms is like a kill chaining Harmony, and since the zoom is so low, you can spec more into hip firing and more movement based CQC gunplay with faster strafing without the ADS Strafe penalty.
The patch update said it fixed something with the BRAVE Recluse's reticle bounce. FEELS SO MUCH BETTER NOW.
I'm not sure if that means just "the new Recluse" or specifically the Shiny version (ornament named Brave Recluse). Either way.
i feel the same way towards the recluse as you TV buuut its still gonna clog up some of my fault space for the next three months just on the copium that being able to enhance perks on these brave weapons might let it pull ahead in some regards 🤞🏼🙏🏼
Will the enhanced perks it's gonna get in final shape make it any better? Because I too feel it's lacking

Playing on pc target lock dynamic sway feels very good as a duelist smg.
I completely agree! I actually like my funnel web more because I have a roll with killing wind which makes a hugeeee difference in range.
I was a bit disaapointed with the recluse and master of arms is pathetic to be honest…should be 30% to me
Bungie needs to move master of arms to the third perk slot for it to get double damage perks that requires total investment into that at the cost of stat based perks like dynamic sway reduction
I mistakenly went to Okora and selected the new light option(brain fart) and ended up getting Graviton Lance. Wow! I never knew! It’s delicious! Pretty good in PVP and superb in PVE
I think niche wise I prefer recluse purely cuz of master of arms. Run it with a harmony roll on my messenger, kill chaining feels absolutely phenomenal between the 2
I hoped in trials solo with thorn/recluse and fkn went flawless lol first time I’ve been able to do it solo, recluse was putting in work

I have zen kill clip with full bore armor-piercing rounds and has exactly 1,700 elims in it back when rift was around, I farmed people.
Hero puts in Work. Number One option for me SMG wise in PVP. Zen Moment and Dynamic Sway together is Dirty.
I have a 74 range funnel web w RF and KW.
I think in PvP it has some big competition but when it comes to PvE, I feel like Recluse is the king of void SMGs. Repulsor brace with surrounded is really strong in add-dense areas and repulsor brace/destabilizing rounds is really strong and gives constant overshield. Can also run frenzy with repulsor brace which is really strong as well. Also master of arms may have gotten nerfed but 15% damage bonus for a kill with ANY weapon is still really strong in both PvP and PvE.
Recluse in PvE is awesome I'm still hunting Repulsor/Destab but for now I'm using Dynamic Sway/Destab and it just feels awesome it replaced my Title smg. Funnel web was already a favorite for me but Recluse is going to take over that spot in pve
I have never fired the out of bounds, had no idea it was such a sleeper

I feel like in pve if you have a surge mod if feels better but then again most other weapons just do its job better with or without it.
The only thing that’ll say is that recluse will have the option to enhance those last 2 perks or 4 if you get a god roll shiny version. While you’re right on out of bounds, I prefer the scope on recluse more especially with the spider ornament. It’s a fun weapon, but has been power crept overtime unfortunately. They should’ve given it at least 14 zoom to help it out.

I find that it’s really hard to manage the recoil on controller too. Getting the first kill was always a bit of a struggle before too, but the body shot damage buff and general damage buff from master of arms made it amazing for kill chaining. But now with its hard to control recoil on console, smg body damage nerf, bad reload, the recluse feels much worse than other meta smg
Death Adder is a solar smg unless you got a void one to drop in year 1 and kept it for some reason.
Heros burden is a void 900rpm smg

also hero's burden is a weird one because it's 900 rpm, but it is a rare adaptive frame, not a lightweight. Adaptive's do a bit less crit damage and were already not good in the last sandbox, probably worse now that crits are more important.
I got a roll with Smallbore, Riccochet, Dynamic and Tap, with a range MW, and honestly, it feels fantastic on MnK. The 13 zoom sucks and I hate the loss of stickiness at the end of its range cap, but when I can actually get in range? Its butter. It has a place, especially after it gets enhanced in TFS, its just not competitive.
I'm running a tap the trigger repulsive Brace on mine for pvp with my void hunter devour overshield build

I agree on all fronts. Maybe enhanced perks will help. For now, Ill stick with Out of Bounds.

Any ability return is better than none but that's all.

Funny, I said the same thing as your summation to a clanmate last night. I just don't think it felt near as good as I remember it feeling before. I I am going to hold onto a couple of good master-at-arms rolls just in case Bungie comes to it senses. Now, let's talk about the multi-mach. I fricken love it in both pvp and pve. Different rolls of course.
Out of bounds is my favourite smg im glad I spent hundreds of grams on it. So under rated
I played a titan the other day using a max range out of bounds with fragile focus and he absolutely fried my whole team, thing fucks real hard.
I'll keep my godroll try it out in final shape after I put enhanced perks on it
i think it’s a solid pve option. especially for void builds. crucible though is another story. especially with options like multimach. but overall recluse is still worth grinding for imo
I ran the recluse in crucible when it released. I found myself losing 50 50 battles handily to the multimach.
I appreciate your honest opinion, however everyone is allowed their own, as a Funnelweb main since I got mine way back when, it is currently my highest kill count weapon I own, that being said I can safely say that the Recluse will more than likely replace my baby the Funneleweb.

I’ve been liking it in PvE a lot. PvP wise, like mentioned in the video, there are better options.

It will just add .5 or 1 second to the timer like all the other time based damage perks

Bummer on the recluse. I’ve been focusing all my efforts on a good Elsie’s rifle. I’ve gotten the stats OR the perks. But never the perks with good stats.
Elsie's rifle is damn amazing in pvp. i got a keep away one with 85 stability and it feels amazing.
If you are on controller do yourself and favour and keep zen moment lol.
Zen moment and 70 stability can deal with the recoil assuming you hit the first burst which isn't hard since thefirst burst is vertical and then it starts kicking.

TBH the Devs bamboozled us into thinking we were getting some cracked ass weapons to be met with weapons worse than some we got 2 years ago from the general world pool 😭....
I don’t know, man. Elsie’s is banger, edge transit is not only not a meme, but arguably the best GL in the game now, and falling guillotine is better than its original form. They may not ALL be amazing (which is actually a good thing) but many are way beyond just good.
Edge is better elsies is god tier falling is good MTop will be worse but still probably good, lunas will be way better, midnight is gonna be great for pve..forebearance is god tier and now we skip the garbage raid..like bruh.😂
And I'm a bungie hater i want all those devs blacklisted from any gaming company.
I see it as allowing newer guardians to be competitive in pvp since the activity is easy and accessible

I’m concerned with how Mountaintop is going to perform in both PvP and PvE. My impression of recluse is that Bungie was scared that it would be too good if brought back as it was and left the zoom as it is to mitigate its usage at higher levels given its infamy. That’s why I’m concerned about how Mountaintop will be brought back given its equal infamy in PvP.
From what we can see in the streams, Mountaintop is gonna be mid. It's super inaccurate and the projectile flies off to another direction half of the time. It's not gonna be meta.
I love repulsor brace destabilizing rounds for pve but I wouldn't use it on pvp over my funnelweb
After looking at it's perk pool the first thing that popped into my head was "This is a PvE gun."
After playing with it the only reason my funnel web isn't shards right now is because I have 30k kills on it.
Also hero’s burden has mad juiced stats.
Went in to the crucible with my memory of pre-nerf Master of Arms Recluse. Left sad. I would agree with the 6.5/10 call.
Recluse is a true cqc smg. It’s not really built to be ranging out like a primary to be your sniper support like say a shayuras. I think it’s well balanced and it’s an animal in its play range for especially cqc duelers like an aping titan

This is a console player take. Because when you’re playing on MMK the most important part of a weapon is definitely the sight. We actually have to track targets perfectly. The recluse has the cleanest sight I’ve ever looked through on an SMG. Other guns having similar or even slightly better perks doesn’t matter.
Even in pve is ok . Can do some fun void stuff but it’s over all just eh . I was really hyped for its return and now I’m just like you know I wouldn’t have minded a different weapon returning .
In PvE, the amount of grenasty energy you get is insane.

So about target lock on 900 smgs: it has .67 ttk against every resil level. Normal lightweights have 0.67 ttk only 1-6 resils, 7-10 is 0.73. Will this make recluse good? No.
Just roll multimach with TL tho.
Since Bungie brought this and the Mountaintop back anyway, why not just unlock/un-sunset both of them from Collections? I still have mine and they were already perfect, except I can't use them anywhere but the Crucible. Kinda insulting tbh that they're forcing people to grind for them again.

I have a subsistence frezy roll thats pretty good in pve. Kinda reminiscent of funnelweb but the old veist origin trait definitely made that gun better and recluse doesnt have it so 🤷🏾♂️
The heros burden straight up feels way better imo. Plus it can drop with Zen-Moment .... No chance for recluse
My reculse I kept feeding frenzy/surrounded and feeding frenzy/frenzy. Master of arms isn't needed no more
Imo it's actually better than before in PvE
I got substance and feeding frenzy in the first column and frenzy and target lock on the second, and let me tell you, it's absolutely nasty in PvE
And since I personally hate smgs on crucible I don't care that much it sucks on PvP
Bungie finally released a balanced gun for the first time, it should be celebrated

nobody wants that. That's not why pvp was fun back in the Not Forgotten days. Now player counts declined when they sunset and nerfed everything. Not a coincidence.
@@derred723- total coincidence. You’re looking through rose colored glasses. People HATED crucible during recluse/mountaintop days. During stasis launch. During gnawing hunger.
As a whole, it’s “cool” when things come out broken, but as a group it SUCKS to play in that meta. I don’t love crucible right now but it is exponentially better than walking into a lobby of 11 mountaintop/recluse and getting erased by one every few frames. People like the guns but hate playing in the meta they create.
So yes: MOST people do want guns to come out balanced.

They should have brought back recluse and mountaintop as exotics that were un nerfed
