As expected from inXile, this documentary was all heart. Here's to another 20 years! 🎉
We need more of these documentaries from all across of Microsoft’s teams.
That would be really cool. But the end result would now take weeks to watch given the amazing acquisitions made over the past few years.

I worked for InXile as a contractor on Wasteland 3. Great people, had an awesome time working with them. I wish them nothing but the best!
I honestly play through Wasteland 3 twice a year, at a minimum. It's so well written, the music is great, I sing its praises often.
Loved Wasteland 2 and Torment: Tides of Numenera and haven't finished Wasteland 3 yet, but loved what I've played so far. Congrats on getting this far, everyone at inXile. I'll look forward to seeing what you guys make next. 👍👍👍

The fall of Interplay, when I heard about it as a child, was such a heart-wrenching thing for me... By gamers; for gamers! I am glad that Brian always had this mentality and took it wherever he went.
Yep; now owned by Microsoft. And just when you thought it couldn't be more heart-wrenching.
@@Piercus1986 While worrisome, Microsoft tends to have a hands-off approach to their game companies. Well, that is, unless you are Bungie, in which case, they will try to force you to make a sequel to your biggest franchise against your will.

CONGRATZZZZZZZZZZ i loved wasteland 2 and 3 so heres hoping to another 20 years
I'm one of those guys that exclusively played FROM Software games for years. Ever since Dark Souls came out in 2011, I was locked in. I didn't even burn out from them (I love Elden Ring), haha, but I certainly came to a point when I NEEDED to play something else. When I found Wasteland 3, I had an absolute blast. The humour, the writing, the locations, the characters, the quests... all a wonderful symphony. I since have kept it in constant rotation, I've probably played through it just under a ten times. I even picked up the soundtrack, which is something I never did before. InXile is definitely on my radar, and I look forward to future releases.
Getting to attend the Wasteland 2 release party as a thanks for helping Brian Fargo acquire the original Wasteland cover art was one of the coolest experiences of my life for sure. Always glad to see InXile continuing to do great things!

20 years in Exile and it keeps going on. I have helped funding all the kickstarter or alike campains as much as I could. Most of the games went very well. Thank you InXile entertainment.
I had no idea this was released. Just stumbled across this now.
I've always been a fan of many of the people involved in these projects as I grew up on Fallout. I actually played Fallout before I had played Wasteland due to my age (I was in elementary when Fallout came out). Brian Fargo, Urqhuart, Cain, Avellone, etc... All of these people are absolute legends and I am truly delighted to see that their shared vision lives on, even if it isn't all under the same roof necessarily.
Interplay, Black Isle Studios and inXile entertainment have set standards and shattered industry preconceptions on multiple levels. They literally threw together and created works akin to Evil Dead/Army of Darkness.... Mayhaps not immediate commercial successes, but ones that would come to command a massive, unwavering fanbase that thoroughly appreciates their efforts.
In addition, inXile pioneered in more than one way. They gave a damn about their fans. I'm a Linux user, and it was a profusely pleasant surprise to see that they've made Wasteland 2 and 3 available for Linux users as well. Absolutely incredible. A smaller studio providing AAA service, product and support.
I hope that you continue in the same fashion with new wind in your sails as you've been picked up from Microsoft. Thank you so much for caring and prioritizing quality over quantity. The world can do with more of that.

It's so great to hear inXile is still inXile, just unleashed with more resources under Microsoft. Love your games, hope you will make many more. I am jealous of an office near the sea. I can see it as a much better perk in job descriptions than "full basket of fruit every morning" ;-) Always have to fly somewhere during holidays to see the sea myself. Am an ambitious hobbyist Dreams creator myself, maybe I'll learn how to make a real game one day, too. But it certainly gave me appreciation for how difficult it must be to make games. That's why I hope gamers never forget their favorite entertainment product is made by actual people with feelings. You can see what the games that are made mean to them in your documentary, too. Criticism is fine, but staying fair is a must.

I have been an enormous fan since playing the first "Wasteland" game while living in Redondo Beach on my C-64 in the late 80's, a magical time & gaming experience I greatly appreciate!
I love the second & third games in the series tremendously & are among my finest gaming experiences to this day, thank you guys!

Now, my ultimate dream for a new project of yours: getting a green light from Microsoft/Bethesda to do a "proper" Fallout successor in the style of Fallout 1/2, but sharing continuity and lore with Bethesdas/Obsidian titles. Now that you all are under the MS umbrella, I mean.
Easy one of my favorite game studios! Torment: Tides of Numenera and Wasteland 3 are both among my favorite games of all time.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that Xbox’s purchase of InXile played a substantial part in me deciding to purchase a Series X - my first Xbox console ever!

Wasteland 3 was a revelation for me. Game was so immersive and interesting. Easily the best Fallout game I've ever played. I can't wait to see what InXile does next!
Happy Anniversary to the entire InXile team! Love the Wasteland series, & Torment. Now that InXile and Bethesda are both under Microsoft, as a long time Fallout fan who played & love every single FO games (except BoS), I think it'll be wonderful if InXile will make a Fallout game. FO1 & 2 (under Brian's leadership) were ground breaking & sparked the beginning of my Fallout obsession. I know Fallout has "gone 3D" since Bethesda, but I think we can still have a kinda sequel to Fallout Tactics, which works perfectly in the Isometric format - which continues to shine perfectly in great games like Wasteland 3 (more 2.5D for me)! Oh, wait, Fallout Shelter is 2D! So even for Bethesda, Fallout is not completely 3D! ;)
Microsoft also bought Obsidian. The pieces are all there!
If you like isometric, D&D style games with fully voiced lines, where not a single line needs to be read unless you struggle with hearing issues, where the VA’s are incredible and the writing is astoundingly good: then I recommend Divinity Original Sin 2. It isn’t made by InXile, it’s made by Larian but it’s still INCREDIBLE. Next to Persona 5 Royal it’s my most favorite game ever made. I have 300+ hours played and still haven’t finished the actual story. That’s how off the charts the replayability is. I actually don’t want to finish the main story because then I’ll lose the magic of playing such an amazing game for the very first time.
@@shadominx3696 Thanks for the recommendation! Yeah, DoS2 is definitely a great game too! I played it for awhile, even tried a bit of multiplayer with 1 of my friends, it was fun! But I never finished it thou, I should reinstall it and finish it this time. :)
@@nougan_gamer yes! I recommend playing as Fane. His storyline is the only one that correlates with the main story in a massive way. It’s such a fun game, even playing alone.

Torment Tides of Numenera was one of my top 5 games in my whole gamer life.

Wow.. I had no idea Interplay became inXile. My buddy Lawrence used to work at Interplay and was the one that taught me all about building gaming computers back in the 90's. We'd LAN and do all nighters and he even took me with his Interplay buddies to Game Works to hook up Redneck Rampage to the co-op arcade stations. Man, what a blast.. sadly lost contact with him but a ton of great memories. Great documentary!

Just wanted to let you guys know I started playing Wasteland 3 with a friend. Before finishing even the tutorial mission and realizing the depth of the game (as in, I literally didn't realize I could scroll down on the skill page), I bought it and started playing it with my internet bff. We just spent six hours jamming with me repeatedly shouting "YEAH BUDDY!" (not a common phrase in my vernacular) with delighted glee the entire time, until I accidentally killed Major Tom while laying waste to a bunch of mistrusting youths with my shotgun. We did reload a save for that one, but only to keep him alive. We still slayed the miscreants.
It's been a long time since I've been excited to play a game instead of feeling compelled or held hostage. It's also been a long while since I've been amused and genuinely charmed by the humor. I _was_ getting back into Deep Rock Galactic, but it's gonna have to wait in line now.
You guys 'effin nailed it. Truely great co-op in a tactical RPG with soooo many QoL mechanics. THANK YOU!
I have keep funding the campaigns even the games I may not like (Torment) so I was hoping the company and the teams go well. I have been so happy we get very decent Wasteland 2 and 3 plus Bard Tales 4 is a charm. Good job InXile entertainment and thank you because I am have been happy.
Keep it going inXile crew! Finally got around to Wasteland 3 and Bard's Tale 4 and was impressed by both, especially BT4, since I'd never played a game in that series before and ended up falling in love with it. If you folks end up doing a Wasteland 4, consider setting it in Texas. Really feels like the next logical step for that series to head to Texas and run into rival Texan Rangers as a kind of shadow to the Arizona Rangers.
I loved them since Wasteland on my Commodore 128.

Edit: Since people seem to be sharing war stories... I picked up Wasteland in high school in '88, it got me through some rough times and Fallout, of course, picked up where Wasteland left off.

I loved the documentary XBOX ON, about the origins of Xbox. N this feels like it was made by the same or at least another very quality team. This was really great. I want to see Playground or Obsidian next! Please Xbox, keep making these high quality documentaries about ALL of your studios... It will help the consumer appreciate all of these excellent and unique studios. Also give the user base something more to get excited about while these games are in the oven!! Please please pleeease do all of the studios!!
Interplay gave me my first break. Good work environment. You get paid to hang out with friends. I am still in contact with people I worked with 30 years ago.
Growing up, my 3 favorite game developers were Bioware, Black Isle, and Interplay.
Bioware still exists, but unfortunately it is not the same company anymore after being acquired by EA. 😥
Surprisingly, both Black Isle and Interplay somehow managed to go out of business in the early 2000s, despite making amazing games.
The former developers from Black Isle went on to form Obsidian, and the former developers from Interplay went on to form Inxile.
Obsidian hit the ground running almost immediately!
InXile, on the other hand, floundered around for years until Kickstarter became a thing in the early 2010s. Then InXile FINALLY started dropping some AMAZING games:
1. Wasteland 2
2. Torment: Tides of Numenera
3. The Bard's Tale IV
4. Wasteland 3
Now that Microsoft has acquired both Obsidian and InXile, I am expecting amazing things from both companies.
Microsoft claims they are going to be "hands off" and just let Obsidian and InXile do their thing (unlike EA with Bioware).
Now that Obsidian and InXile have that Microsoft money to play around with, I am anticipating pure magic!!!

CONGRATULATIONS to Inxile's 20th anniversary, and props to 20 years more. IF i had to describe InXile in one word it would be "eclectic". From 3rd person action games to rpgs to character and environment designs in multiple different genres, Inxile always seem to deliver something new and original to the table.
Congratulations on 20 years, inXile! Definitely gonna try Wasteland once I get through my backlog. Here's to another 20 more 🍻

I backed Bard's Tale IV, I mean how could I not after growing up playing the trilogy on my Amiga. Also Tides of Numenera (the unofficial sequel to one of my favourite games of all time). Aside from being immensely talented, you all seem like really genuine people with a big heart. It's so good that you are still around and making great games. Thanks for this awesome video!

I'd love to see a collaboration between inXile, Obsidian, and Bethesda on the next Fallout. Where Xbox(Microsoft) hand-picks the dream team for world-building, writing, and direction and then just lets a team of people that love the Fallout world, roping in Chris Avellone and Tim Cain, if he isn't still with Obsidian, and with Todd sit down and be like here is the world of Fallout in a way you have dreamt of. Using the most advanced engine we could make, with the best graphics your system can handle.
Then just setting players and modder's free in that world.

Congratulations on the 20th anniversary! If you guys made only (the real) Fallout or only Wasteland, you would still have a major lifetime achievement. And what a life it is: to do what you like and to do it so well that you get hardcore longtime fans. And to stay true to this day is also for great respect. 3 decades ago gamers made games. Now plenty of devs don't even play, the industry creates just tasteless consumer products. This makes you stand out even more. Keep it up inXile, and good luck in the upcoming decades!

Wasteland 2 was a freaking masterpiece: it brought back all the good that I remembered back from when I played the first when it was just released, and made it modern. It was everything gamers and the studio needed.
But are we getting a Wasteland 4? Or a Hunted 2?
Bards Tale ARPG was the first and only game I've ever returned. Feel really bad I bounced of it but at the time had no idea who these InXile guys were and how BT had ended up as an ARPG. Now that I know more about the company it makes a lot more sense, and InXile are my favourite devs.

I love how Double Find's Kickstarter is what inspired the Wasteland 2 Kickstarter!! And now both are Xbox studios! Xbox has picked up SO MANY TOP SHELF STUDIOS BESIDES BETHESDA AND ACTIVISION (two obvious industry hallmarks)

I remember the Kickstarter days.
It feels like a different life back then now.
Pretty hyped time.
The hope was great, as were the promises.
I thought the "good old days" were back.
Then, years later, reality kicked in.
Since then I've kind of learned what game development means.
That it's a lot of work. More than you might think.
It spawned a lot of good games, but it seems something was missing.
Dev Studios couldn't catch the nostalgia.
They have forgotten what gave the games the spark.
And now it feels like the (younger) developers have learned what that spark means.
I think we are in very interesting times indeed!
