Although this is true, Obsidian still makes a lot of great games today and would still be a better choice than Bethesda. Lol. Plus, the game director of New Vegas is Josh Sawyer, who's still working there.
bethesda has been becoming really shitty lately most recently they have been implementing paid mods in their games, trying to milk the community out of money for things they dont even make.

Except at the crunching time where the employee worked to their limit (almost all the developer did that too)

What a pleasant dude, no wonder people from as far back as Black Isle still work with him. Really cool video, as Obsidian has to be one of the better developers out there in terms of game quality, consistency, and knowing what their fans want.
I got the distinct impression that it was the kind of kindness that can fire you in the same tone... Mostly body language in response to him. Though some of that might just be nerds seeing their boss.
I think that might have been the camera, not everyone is comfortable being filmed.

I’ve always wished he was my boss! Feargus is such a passionate and talented dude. He’s one of the reasons everything Obsidian touches turns to gold.
So if you read what Chris Avellone said about Fergus and the company after Chris quit, and read why he quit, its a different story. Bad people spend a lifetime developing a phony positive and pleasant initial impression. So don't trust initial impressions, trust the people who have known them for years and really know what they're like behind closed doors

Go look at the interview with Chris Avellone and what he has to say about this Feargus guy. Obsidian might make better games but Bethesda is a better working enviroment.

Obsidian the company that never had enough time nor money, but still managed to make legendary games. I hope they get the opportunity to work on a big title again.
Oh man, all those Star Wars books. Man, I could tell actual love and knowledge of Star Wars went into KOTOR 2, and it seems I was right. Some good research goes a long way.
North Korea it's nice to see that Kim let's the country play master pieces as KOTOR II,the first one was beautiful and Revan remains as my favourite SW character besides Vader but II was the Beethoven of Star Wars games.

Chris Bratt seems like a very nice fella, as does Feargus Urquhart. It seems like pretty much a WFH home environment with how cosy and casual it is, but obviously more robust and large (unless you live in an amazing home).

I would love to work at a place like this; Obsidian, CD Project Red. It must be like a family in these studios doing the things they love with no limitations.
Trey Charles I've heard CD project red actually treats thier employees like shit. Long hours, no breaks low pay, stuff like that. They make great games and offer great value to the gamers but don't treat thier own staff as you might expect

Interesting NEW insight into a studio. I hope this kind of content is popular because the games industry could use more highly-produced docu features like this.

Ah, meant to say it was a new insight but my fingers thought otherwise.
Yeah there's so much discussion about how games are made, be that 'lazy devs" or crunch or whatever, but having this insight into what the day to day is really like is interesting. Obviously being shown around by the CEO isn't exactly a normal experience but still really interesting!
It's more like 3-4 studios under the same roof, thanks to the number of projects they have at once.
i would find it a privilege to work under such talented guys, a lot of people work better if they have their space. I think you're misplacing your idea of what is good to what YOU think is good.

If their was a developer I'd want to work for, it'd be Obsidian. From their very first title, they've made some amazing (and my favourite) games.

Oh, my bad, for some reason I can't see another commenter on this thread bar you. YT being YT I guess. Also I agree with your take on Bethesda, and I don't consider Machine Games (Wolfenstein) or ID (Doom) to be part of Bethesda, the same as I don't consider BioWare, a part of EA.

What i absolutely love about the game companies like Obsidian is the level of enthusiasm that everyone have. Among with awesome workspace it's a dream job for many Obsidian fans.

That's awesome. Obsidian ranks up there as one of my favorite developers today. It's too bad that the studio has fallen on hard times because some of those names are the shoulders of titans upon which others in the industry stand.
First! How I would love a new obsidian made fallout and or fallout new Vegas remastered.
Mark Henderson bugs weren't that bad and I played it on console lol.

Oh yes the bugs were that bad thegamingner123. I can't play it on my Xbox 360 anymore (though I played a lot of it before this happened) and now every time I go into combat the screen turns blue for no apparent reason. I loved NV and Old World Blues is my favorite DLC of all time, but that game's bugs had bugs, which in turn also had bugs.
That being said if Obsidian was to make another Fallout I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Huh, I always wondered why Obsidian keeps making really cool and fun games. It's because their lead designers and programmers made literally every single cult-classic RPG game in the 90's

Great video & tour, Fergus is such a good host and Obsidian looks a cool place to work, it's nice to see many old veterans from the 90's still work there too. Would love to see more tours of studios, keep up the good work.

Game studios look like some of the most fun places to work, having memorabilia from all your favourite games laying around, and they always look so chilled out with their lounges. Obviously at peak times I bet it's stressful as hell trying to create AAA games but it looks great nonetheless
They're never really that chilled out to be honest. I've had two friends get into the biz and subsequently quit due to having no life outside of work.

It's amazing that they have 160 staff and are working on 4 projects when that would be a 3rd of a development team for Ubisoft or EA.

You can tell the passion from the groove of the place, this is why they work and keep their product top notch. They're artisans whilst Ubisoft and EA are robot factories

However, Lucasfilm's exlusive contract with EA does come to an end in a few years. Let's hope they don't do that again and leave themselves the freedom to contract other companies (like Obsidian) to make games for them as well.

Wow, Obsidian Entertainment seems to be a very good place to work. I liked the board games room very much. They even have the German version of Sternenfahrer von Catan (if there's an English version of that game anyway).
