You Are NOT a Piece of Sh** (Wm. Paul Young - 11/3/17 - NCS New Canaan)

  • Wm. Paul Young shares his journey from believing he was a piece of sh** to understanding that the "truth of his being" is that he was made in the image and likeness of God. He describes how his modern, evangelical, fundamentalist upbringing as the son of missionaries taught him that he was a piece of sh** and that everything in life was about trying to cover it up. Young explains that the Holy Spirit helps reveal the truth of our being--which is that everything true about God is actually also true
about us. Young urges vulnerability in relationship--understanding our true nature and taking ownership of how we have messed things up so that we can get on the road back to wholeness and authenticity. He quotes Brene Brown: "If you don't own your story, it will own you, but if you do own your story you will have the authority to write the ending."

Can you imagine if we were raised in worthiness rather than shame? It takes time and a lot of talking and receiving the Trinity view, ie love to begin to let go of the shame programming we were raised in and begin to live from my true identity. Clear away the lies so the way of my being matches the truth of my being, according to Love. God is love and there is No fear or shame in love.

I have struggled with the Christ religion since I was thrust into the mainstream church by an angry dad. He pushed his religion on me and my sister and I always thought to myself "why do I want to be like this angry guy who cares more about politics than his own family?" I always thought the god of the bible was a psychopath. Make things so vague and confusing and then torture people eternally for not figuring it out. Total BS. Gary Amuralt and other sane people like J Preston Eby made more sense out of this religion and so does this guy. HOWEVER, the Christ religion STILL is kind of ridiculous. Look at the world outside of the Christian geography. China, India, Africa, etc. You see a world untouched by the Christian god for most of his-story. Why?? And what is the purpose of children in Africa born and then suffering and dying in a few days, weeks or years with no hope and no life? The truth is that life on this sphere (or whatever it is) is a sort of hell. More suffering than joy. Elite masters who own more and more of the pie and who oppress the commoners more every year. Hospitals, "governments" and other institutions that profit off of the misery of the people. My thumbs are tired so I will just end with this. Why? WTF?

Growing up, it was considered a higher level of holiness to compete in stating to the extreme how depraved and vile we are. It never seemed right to me.
