The NCS New Canaan channel includes audio recordings of guest speakers at meetings of NCS New Canaan, the founding chapter of the New Canaan Society. The presentation of these recordings is not an endorsement of the particular views expressed by the speakers, but it is an endorsement of the relentless pursuit of Biblical truth, of our desire to go deeper in friendship with Jesus and with each other, and of the importance of sharing our stories for the glory of God.
"Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." And he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him, and everyone marveled. (Mark 5:19-20 ESV)

Olympic Gold and Gospel Grace (Dr. Ashley Null - 10/25/24 - NCS New Canaan)
With disarming humor, humility and vulnerability, the Rev’d Canon Dr. John Ashley Null, shares how brokenness in his childhood not only led him to become an overachiever but also, through God’s grace, uniquely equipped him to minister to Olympic and other elite athletes.
Dr. Null provides sobering insights into the burden and cost of winning, the pain and shame of failure, the brokenness behind achievement, and the emptiness of worldly success. He follows that up with hopeful reminders of how the Gospel and God’s incredible grace and love are the answer and antidote to the burden, cost, pain, shame, brokenness, and emptiness--how God creates beauty out of brokenness.
Ashley explores how we idolize things like our gifts, talents and achievements and worldly “success” in the hope they will lift the burdens, erase the cost, remove the pain, wipe away the shame, repair the brokenness and fill the emptiness-all things only God can do. He also explains why “success” at the cost of relationships is not really “success”.
In describing the suffering of people who sacrifice a fulfilling life in the endless pursuit and maintenance of a “successful” lifestyle, Dr. Null reveals when he first realized he was on the achievement “treadmill” and shares the secret to getting off.
Using examples from his work, Null describes how the good news of the Gospel can be twisted into something toxic, such as Christian athletes who wrongly believe that failure meant they had disappointed God and people whose relationship with Jesus is wrongly based on what they can do for Him.
For all its sobering reality, Null’s talk is full of good news and hope. He shares the truth of God’s grace and unconditional love, the healthy motivation for the pursuit of excellence, and the four reasons God gives us our gifts and talents. He even offers the way to stop sinning.
Dr. Null’s talk is followed by a revealing Q&A that starts at 31:15.

She comes across as if what she’s saying is some amazing profound truths when in reality, many people of all the wisdom traditions throughout history have known this, and then some. The only problem is, we don’t read the books they left behind because we’re too busy watching TV, sports, TikTok, and wasting our time with all manner of things.
Thank you 🙏
Now these are the sermons we need. These show how the enemy of our souls has used Follywood to transform our culture into a self loving, self esteem, self gratification society. Add Freudism, Darwinism, and Marxism ( all doctrines of demons) and we can understand why and how the church in the west has fallen, and why the remnants of the British Empire is self destructing. The powerful lie of love yourself has destroyed us.
Powerful story Reverend Dr. Michael Christie or should I say, what a powerful testimony you shared? I am elated that you have decided to bring back mindfulness teachings to Gods people. Peace and many blessings be onto you and your family.

Beautiful testimony.
Can you imagine if we were raised in worthiness rather than shame? It takes time and a lot of talking and receiving the Trinity view, ie love to begin to let go of the shame programming we were raised in and begin to live from my true identity. Clear away the lies so the way of my being matches the truth of my being, according to Love. God is love and there is No fear or shame in love.

What can one say about James Tour...he must have a place in God's heart right next to David.
What a great witness for the creator of the universe. We fall so short from the glory of God.
Dr Tour is attacked as a scientist because of his belief in Jesus. If he said everything came from “nothing” he would be praised by people.

Ravi said, "find the skin of worship", and that you need, "the skin to bind all your proclivities and your desires". He listed: prayer, singing and giving. It may be the time in God's word and Church family fellowship not listed, that cost such an illicit price for himself.

it's a really bad move to make the intro twice as loud as the speaker -- really bad
Couldn't agree more, which is why we opted instead to make the speaker 1/2 the volume of the intro.

Can someone help explain to me why he said you need the praise of the praiseworthy to get an identity? I don't see the logic in needing anything from anyone to get an identity, no one has ever taken my identity from me, it's not something I must obtain or seek out like a physical object... Where does it say in the Bible that I need praise from the praiseworthy? I thought to pursue loving Jesus and being loved by Jesus is our identity, as well as loving others. I'm confused, please help!
Raid Unhinged, Hi, I’m not sure if you got a reply to your question. But I’ll try. I think you are right if you are saying your identity is in Jesus. But if you base it on how YOU love Jesus then your identity will fluctuate with your performance and obedience. That would be hard to have any confidence in who you are or if you were accepted each day. However if your identity is based on what God thinks of you through the gospel then you have a rock solid identity that can’t be crushed or changed. You can have confidence in who you are in Jesus because of what He has done for you on the cross. (A historic event that can also not be changed) What should your identity be? If you (or me) got what we deserve then we would get the identity of “sinner” rejected by God, cursed by God in justice due to our sin against Him. That’s our identity with out Jesus stepping in our place. BUT! But Jesus takes us off the cross where we belong and puts himself in our place. We should be abandoned and God’s face turned away from us in rejection but instead Jesus was rejected by His Father instead so we can be accepted! He was abandon in our place so we can have God’s presence! He was cursed so we can be praised and loved! So I think that’s why Keller says our identity is based on the praise of the praiseworthy. God is the only true “praiseworthy” and he delights and praises us (and even sings over us!) Zeph 3:17 because of what Jesus earned for us in the cross along with the fact that we get his righteousness imparted to us as well! So I think what he means is our identity is based on what God says about us. And God loves us deeply and says we are His! (The praise or the Paiseworthy!) Jesus lost His identity being ripped from the Trinity as the Father judged Him for our sins so that we can have our new identity in Him! There is none other that we should base who we are on. Not even on how we preform in our response to this amazing grace. I hope this helps.
Keller is a false teacher. A true wolf in sheep's clothing.
How so?
winter Keller has an umbiblical teaching about sin. He also infuses Marxism into his teaching.
@@matthewwinter7660 have a look at this th-cam.com/video/nDlh0tUTlc4/w-d-xo.html
@@matthewwinter7660 Here is a short one with links to more detailed exposes about Keller and others. th-cam.com/video/8eFyjB1KnBU/w-d-xo.html please be careful about who you listen to.
I think these videos are silly my friend. I think if someone says you're saved by grace through faith, Jesus is God and we are saved through Jesus alone they are a true Christian. That is the gospel my friend. If someone shows me Tim Keller denying those facts then he is a false teacher. But as far as I know he believes those facts whole heartedly. Be careful to through the "false teacher" label on people.
I have struggled with the Christ religion since I was thrust into the mainstream church by an angry dad. He pushed his religion on me and my sister and I always thought to myself "why do I want to be like this angry guy who cares more about politics than his own family?" I always thought the god of the bible was a psychopath. Make things so vague and confusing and then torture people eternally for not figuring it out. Total BS. Gary Amuralt and other sane people like J Preston Eby made more sense out of this religion and so does this guy. HOWEVER, the Christ religion STILL is kind of ridiculous. Look at the world outside of the Christian geography. China, India, Africa, etc. You see a world untouched by the Christian god for most of his-story. Why?? And what is the purpose of children in Africa born and then suffering and dying in a few days, weeks or years with no hope and no life? The truth is that life on this sphere (or whatever it is) is a sort of hell. More suffering than joy. Elite masters who own more and more of the pie and who oppress the commoners more every year. Hospitals, "governments" and other institutions that profit off of the misery of the people. My thumbs are tired so I will just end with this. Why? WTF?
Good for you!! Your intuition will carry you straight into love!! Questioning these weird lies we’re told, you obviously got somewhere deep inside it didn’t resonate.
Life changing message here... to God be the glory.
