Non-binary people just hanging out and watching videos by nb supportive creators like Samantha. They make a little blanket nest and get ready to take a floor nap or something. Holding a handful of bees, just whatever. They're living their lives.
I love how she’s like “If it’s x, y or a then I can get behind it,” as if all non-binary people are just waiting on pins and needles to have their identity validated by her specifically.
So she isn't allowed to say she supports something? You said that she was saying "x" and criticised it like all people who agree with you were waiting for your validation. Hear how stupid that sounds?
"imagine if somebody said that being a lesbian is for purely political." me, knowing there's a section of radfem who do believe identifying as a lesbian is a form of activism to reject patriarchy: "oh, no."
But there are lesbians on all sides of the political spectrum There are gay men on all sides of the political spectrum. There are trans people are on all sides of the political spectrum. Most nonbinary people tend to lean way to the left. Which is why nonbinary seems political.
@@janicefinch3563 You're right, but that's not what the original comment is about. There's apparently a section of radfems who say sexuality is a choice so they choose to be lesbians because in their eyes you can't be a true feminist while still being with a man. It's... bizarre, to say the least.
“Non-binary doesn’t have a set definition” it’s almost like it’s some sort of an... umbrella term... that encompasses many different identities, like trans or LGBT.
Ye! People who don’t actually align with any sort of gender could technically call themselves agender. Non-binary is just more widely recognized and requires less explanation these days.
Yeah, it was really clear she didn't want to do any research on it. Just about any NB person probably could've explained it to her and answered all her questions. And like... Google exists. Some of us are agender like me, some are genderqueer, some are bigender... All she had to do was google or ask nicely. It's a bit frustrating.
i use the term of "its a system of gender that uses a spectrum rather than set categories" like every nonbinary person's experience is different. People gotta realize that.
Ah yes, step 1. Extract gender. Step 2. Find strange person on the internet with deep personal issues and over shares all the time but is honestly really nice and everyone should give them a chance but instead just walks all over them. Step 3. Profit

I'm a 56 year old Gender Fluid AFAB (Which I would say is a form of non-binary). And no-one lost a Lesbian with me, because I've always been attracted to Gay, Bi, Pan Men, that are masculine, but who aren't afraid of their feminine side.
"everyone has masculine and feminine traits in them" - is she saying that nonbinary people think that in order to be binary you have to be a walking talking stereotype of your gender?
@@myntie2529 Nonbinary is a broad umbrella term that covers any identity that is not "man" or "woman." For example, people who are gender fluid and feel like a man sometimes and a woman others may identify as nonbinary. Someone who feels that they are "inbetween" those two genders is nonbinary, but so is someone who doesn't identify with the scale of Men and Women at all. Many cultures have more than two recognized genders, and cultures like that were even more numerous in the past, so the idea of binary genders is not universal or inherent to humanity in any way, but it can be a hard concept to grasp when you're first introduced to it because of how the binary frames how we see world.
@@myntie2529 I brought it up to make the point that the gender binary is not inherent to humanity. None of that had anything to do with the oppression of women, or female infanticide, but nice non-sequetor. If you decide you'd actually like to learn about nonbinary identities rather than troll, I recommend transequality.org as a place to start.
My grandpa's best friend recently came out as non-binary, and they are over 60. They transitioned in the past (mtf) and detransitioned because it didnt feel right for them. When they found out was non-binary was (my cousins (now ex) s/o is nb, so that's how my family was introduced to this topic), they instantly identified with it. I hate this "It's a trend" thing. No, people just finally have the information available and don't need to fear persecution.

i’m a lesbian and i’m nonbinary. lesbian history is FILLED with enby and GNC people because of how being a lesbian interacts with and subverts expectations of traditional womanhood. it’s part and parcel of being a lesbian for so many of us. a pity arielle is so ignorant of her own community’s history...
So I was a casual fan of Arielle back in the early 2010s when I was trying to figure out my identity and at that time her catchphrase was something like "thank you boyfriends, girlfriends, and everybody else in between" and when I found out last year she was a terf I was kinda surprised at the turn she took. Like at some point she did understand it or at the very least empathized with it.
I used to watch her vids as well as a lesbian, but I honestly got tired of her immature ways. Many times she was talking about how disgusting penises were. Which is fine to think, but very rude to mention multiple times in many different videos. Not only are there people who might find penises attactive who are watching her vids, but also there might be trans people who are already feeling conflicted about their bodies hearing that, making them feel bad. And of course just cis men who also don’t deserve getting their genitals insulted. Idk it is just plain RUDE and this was way before the trans controversy started. I also thought she had this strange obsession of gold star lesbians and she loved to point out that she was one. She is really immature, defensive and willfully ignorant.
@@missylarsson3517 yes! That was a big contributing factor to why I stopped watching her! Like she started making content that was more and more... insensitive. This is so funny I’m sorry 😭 That seems to be how it is - I thought people who said they were bisexual were doing it for attention because “everyone finds both sexes attractive, you’re not special” and then I found out I was bi lmao
Saying that we're all nonbinary is bullshit. As a nonbinary person myself, the best way I would describe it to her is this: you use she/her pronouns. Those make you feel like you. If someone were to call you a he, or use he/him pronouns, then you wouldn't feel like you, you would feel uncomfy or like someone else. This goes for not just nonbinary people, but all trans people. I use all pronouns because that's what makes me comfy, and conforming to just one isn't who I am.

When Arielle mentions how she's only ever known young non-binary people it becomes apparent that she doesn't hang out in trans or non-binary spaces to, you know, have a completely unbiased look at the community before making content talking about them. I see people in nonbinary support groups online that say they're so happy for the "new age" terminology becoming more well known cause it's helped them piece together what's been strange to them all their lives. There are people coming out in these groups who are in their 40's, 50's, hell a person came out in one of the Facebook groups I'm in and they are 78 years old and been so confused as to why they could never "fit in" to their assigned gender. This person specifically became aware of the term from their grandchild who came out as nonbinary to them, and after doing some research to make their grandkid comfortable they had their own awakening that they are also nonbinary.
I went to a clothing swap for trans people in my area (I'm not trans but thought my feminine clothes could go to a new a home) met non-binary people as old as 70. One of whom loved their slim male frame, didn't want oestrogen but got breast implants. It really put things into perspective.
@Lin Calasso Hi, genderfluid transmasculine here! Gender is a social construct but that doesn't mean it's not real, it's more of an internal feeling of identity of how you see and feel who YOU are. Clothes, accessories are just fabric and accessories and don't have much to really do with gender anyways, but it can if you feel like it's important to your gender personally. So, if you feel you are whatever gender you may be and if it feels right to you...then you're that gender. (:
That's literally so amazing how they were able to find out through their grandchild. I feel so bad that they hadn't discovered who they were until way later in life because I feel like that definitely didn't give them enough time to be comfortable in their own body.
I'm a cis/het male and the only concerns I have over someone else's gender identity or orientation is that they are safe and happy. That's all that matters.
OMG it really felt comforting hearing your opinions on this! i've had so many people on my instagram and youtube trying to tell me i'm sexist or misogynistic for being genderfluid and it's so hurtful! i can't understand their reasoning and how they'd even think that! thanks for being an awesome ally to nonbinary folks xo

I love how she uses “transexual” instead of transgender so she can say that you can’t transition to a different sex. YES. WE KNOW. That’s why we’re *transgender* not transexual. Edit: some people are comfortable or even prefer with being referred to as transexual because they’ve medically changed their bodies, and this is also completely valid!

I think their argument is that only afab nonbinary people medically transition (which is not true, I'm amab and my goal is to transition medically), so Arielle thinks it's a way to turn women into men. Kind of like their argument that transmen are lost lesbians.
It’s like saying “not red”. There’s no definition other than being not the color red. Blue, sure, but not the definition. It literally takes nothing to try to respect what makes people comfortable
Except the pronouns. That's the only thing to which the "live and let live" doesn't apply because when you're talking to an enby person and you have to avoid using "he" or "she" it takes an active effort - changing the language and though patterns you've been using literally since you were born. I struggle with "they" pronouns (or neo-pronouns) a lot. Edit: I just read my comment again and realize how passive agressive it sounded. 💀 Just to be clear, I support nonbinary folks. I do have troubles with pronouns (and by that I mean that I mess it up every chance I get😂), but I'm empathetic enough to be willing to at least try.
@@Eris_Norregard many non-binary people use binary pronouns as well. for example my friend uses he/they/she, but i have to use those pronouns all evenly (i use he/they more because he isn't out to his parents and they think they're a girl 😭) also they/them pronouns get a little easier to use if you think of it this way: like for example if you went to the doctor and you were fine you could say, "oh, they said i was healthy." it's no big deal. 😊
@@personone1382 Thank you for the answer. My problem is that people tend to not realize how much are our thought processes tied to what we can comfortably say. I speak czech, english, russian and german, and out of the four, only in english am I able to form a sentence without including gender. The other three languages all have gendered nouns and the verbs and adjectives have different suffixes depending on that. And "they" is used only for a group of people, not as a substitute when you don't know gender. A person is always either a he, or a she, no exception. That's how it goes for ALL slavic languages. There's over 300 million people who speak some slavic language as their birth one just in Europe and Russia combined. As for german language - that's 100 million people just in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. According to google, that's already more people than there are native english speakers in the whole world. I have zero idea how pronouns work in chinese, or spanish, or french, or any middle-eastern language whatsoever. I have zero idea how most world languages work, really, but I suspect most of them are not as "gender-neutrality friendly" as english. You see what the problem is? @@Eris_Norregard pronouns have actually started evolving in many languages such as Spanish and French, although I’m not sure about Slavic ones I’m sure that if you did the research or talked to someone who studies languages (I forgot what it’s called I’m sorry) I bet it would be easier to find a way around it or something to substitute! :) /gen

The implication that we nonbinary people owe anyone androgynous presentation is just outright absurd- like Sam stated gender is not how you express yourself via clothes, and makeup, and what not, it's how you identify on the inside- anyways there was a lot to unpack here thanks for bringing attention to this, Samantha
This pains me cuz I used to be a fan of Arielle in her early days (back when she wasn't.... this) and helped me figure out I was bi and liking girls was ok. So seeing her rip apart my gender identity like this is just... I feel betrayed...
I feel you - I may be binary, but her change in content and attitudes felt like looking up to someone only to have them tell you they don't believe in gravity and that the concept of gravity is sexist.
Arielle's "I could get behind non-binary IF" reminds me very much of a coworker I had who said something along the lines of, "I'll give them somewhere in between man and woman, but anything else is unreasonable." Like girl. I wasn't asking you to give me anything other than human decency. We don't need Arielle's permission or approval to exist, and it's baffling to think she believes we do.
“But isn’t everyone a little OCD?” It’s giving me the same energy tbh. Like no. You hoovering everyday doesn’t equate to the reality of someone with OCD, and has to manage that condition. It diminishes someone’s struggles. Maybe someone who has OCD can’t leave their house because their entire life is controlled by the patterns and routines they have built up as a result of their disorder. Maybe a non-binary person is homeless because their family has kicked them out for being who they are. @Lin Calasso I don't know myself but maybe it is just the feeling to be part of the women or the man's group, both, neither etc. We are complex creature lol This is more about why* we express ourselves a certain way rather than how*. Like, a butch women could look the same as a pre transitionning transman, but you can't always tell the difference just by looking at them. It's not about what we see, but what is their inside. Some will express gender a certain way, others don't feel the need. For exemple, a transman can still wear dresses juste because he likes it and not be less of a man in his internal sens of himself.
@Lin Calasso The only thing that makes you a man, women, or nonbinary, is you feeling like that said gender. If you're more comfortable with certain pronouns and being referred to as a certain gender then you are that gender. And while yes most trans people feel dysphoria that makes their true gender more obvious, you don't have to feel dysphoria for your gender to be valid. Like for me I'm non binary agender, what that means for me is I don't feel dysphoria no matter how I'm gendered and don't understand the importance of gender on myself, but this doesn't make me cisgender; Because of that I'm comfortable with all pronouns(I usually favor he/they tho) in the same way tha another nonbinary person might only be comfortable with they/them pronouns. Hope this made sense to you
@Lin Calasso that’s actually a really good question. I think gender is a part of consciousness. It’s not really anything set in stone and it doesn’t really have any real meaning other than an identity or something you can resonate with? Like if we switched the definition of boy and girl. I’d be a boy. They’re just words to give validation to feelings. Nobody feels like a wo/man the exact same way somebody else feels like a wo/man. This being the case, being non binary is totally normal and okay. There’s nothing wrong with it and it makes ZERO sense why people are so against transgender and non binary folks. I just don’t feckin get it. I honestly have no idea and I’m just thinking out loud here but it’s super interesting to think about.
Hybrid genders are problematic, you must choose which wc you should use, and which prison you should be put in..and it will never happen that the gender box in ur ID card is checked as "non-binary", it will always be either male or female, there should be a good reason that it's how it worked for 1000s of years.
@Lin gender isn’t actually a real thing. It’s a social construct. What makes a woman is identifying as one. Same for dudes. There’s no way to define what feeling like a man or woman is like either. It’s weird bro.
Heck yeah. They made me feel like what I was feeling wasn't real years, after I started to find out who I am. At times I still feel like I'm making it up. I'm a genderfluid person who mostly identifies as a woman, and that's okay because that is who I am and I like being me.

Gender is a social construct but that doesn't mean it's not real, it's more of an internal feeling of identity of how you see and feel who YOU are.
Ehh it depends on your definition of sex. Phenotype maps more closely to gender, but even NHS in the UK base the “sex” on your medical records on phenotype rather than anything else.
Exactly, gender is not sex. Biological sex is in the past, and gender is literally pronouns. *PRONOUNS* . Not anything harmful there.

Did you know that there is a non binary identity called gendervoid... hehe I identify with that as well as agender nd non binary :)
@@Eris_Norregard many non-binary people use binary pronouns as well. for example my friend uses he/they/she, but i have to use those pronouns all evenly (i use he/they more because he isn't out to his parents and they think they're a girl 😭)
also they/them pronouns get a little easier to use if you think of it this way: like for example if you went to the doctor and you were fine you could say, "oh, they said i was healthy." it's no big deal.
As it is now, the non-binarism is simply an idea flying around in the english speaking parts of the internet, that cannot exist in the real life of a vast majority of world's population.
@@Eris_Norregard i just wanted to help at least a little. i see the problem. but thank you for the great and thoughtful comment!
:) /gen

It’s giving me the same energy tbh.
“Isn’t everybody non-binary” *me who’s a-gender in the non-binary community* ಠ_ಠ
@Lin Calasso I don't know myself but maybe it is just the feeling to be part of the women or the man's group, both, neither etc. We are complex creature lol
This is more about why* we express ourselves a certain way rather than how*.
