This was a sad, sad ordeal! I know it truly bothered Sugar for the rest of his life! There will never ever be another Sugar Ray Robinson! Even Ali had to bow down to the greatest boxer that ever lived - and THAT'S saying something (next to Ray, Ali truly was the greatest)!

"Ali did give Robinson his respect."
Yes, Ali worshipped Robinson from probably age twelve - the time he first began fighting - onward. Their styles at times were nearly identical. And just to be clear, I wasn't saying Ali didn't give Robinson the respect he deserved, he certainly did. They were friends.
There's an interesting anecdote about Ali and Robinson: prior to ever becoming well known - back when he was still "Cassius Clay" - Ali ran into Robinson on the street one time. Robinson was his hero. Upon asking for an autograph, Robinson said something to the effect of "Go away, kid, I'm busy", briskly walking past him. Ali was crushed.
Later, after becoming famous, Ali NEVER once refused to sign an autograph for a fan of his, no matter what he was doing. All I can say in response to that is, what a guy!
