I was recruited to play baseball on the east coast. My dad and I took a tour of a few other schools in New England we decided to drive up into the Boston area from Long Island. I was gassed so I feel asleep for an hour while he drove. When I woke up, this song was playing while we drove through Providence in Rhode Island. I had never felt so at peace. There was nothing to say and we just sat and drove through the town on a beautiful sunny day during the summer. I'll always remember that feeling of serenity and genuine happiness. It was a really cool moment with my Dad and I'll remember it for the rest of my life. Thanks Greg.
And you really will, "3 little birds" had a moment for me where I said I would always remember. I heard it the other day and teared up. That moment was 10 years ago. Music is funny like that.
how in earth does stuff like this only have 186,000 views? Gregory Alan Isakov is one of the greatest singers of our generation yet nobody has heard of him...
Hang on...186,000 (341,000 now) are VIEWS. Not people. Some people like me, have viewed this 20 or 30 times. So, if 1,000 people view this 10 times each, that's only 10,000 views. So you can't really rely on those numbers. Also, how in the world, can you possibly make a statement like "nobody's heard of him"? Who's "nobody"? Are you implying that you know EVERYONE, and somehow KNOW what they know or DON'T know? For god's sake man. I bought all his music as well, but sometimes I don't have access to wifi so I use a desktop and listen to his stuff 2 or 3 times in the same day! See what I'm gettin at...
My favorite lines: "Churches and trains They all look the same to me now They shoot you some place While we ache to come home somehow" ^^ exactly what I was thinking while listening to this song almost non-stop on a train from Landscheid, Germany to Amsterdam in January of this year. This could not have been a more perfect song for my homesickness, heartache, and scared soul to listen to at the time. Thank you so much, Gregory. I am forever a fan of yours.
Leah Krokowski wow leah... that comment me in tears... and that's a feeling I get often just in my life in general. to.hear it and read in words is pretty special and thanks for telling that. makes loneliness kinda not as tough. at least takes one far away for that moment
Definitely. To me it signifies that discovering truth and meaning in our existence is tricky. Some turn to travel to reinvent themselves or discover something in themselves and the same can be said about religion but we’re often still left with a longing that these things promise to fulfill.
I could not stop listening to this song during some of my last days in Amsterdam. Lived there for a few months until I had to leave. I feel you so much on this. You should give Amsterdam and Berlin Blues a listen by Alice Phoebe Lou, those are really good too.
This song is one of those songs where you can literally feel the music. that tingly feeling you get in your whole body that just makes you want to close your eyes and just sway to the music.
Lyrics ... All inside our Amsterdam she hides Watery-eyed That howling wind, she's waving hi Her other hand's in mine Oh silhouette She's growing tall and fine She's got my back She'll follow me down every street No matter what my crime All inside our Amsterdam she flies Hoarding the kites That howling wind, she'll take everything But she's easy on the eyes Churches and trains They all look the same to me now They shoot you some place While we ache to come home somehow
I’ve had a really hard day with my anxiety. My chest has been so tight for the most part. I’m now laying in bed with this song on and reading my bible, feeling at ease.
I really hope you're doing fine by now ❤ Been Isakov's fan for a while now, and know how powerful this music can be against the anxiety the world drives us through...
I walked down the isle to my then fiancé’s best friends playing this song on voila, violin and cello. Then walked back down the isle with my husband to them playing the stable song. Those two songs have been my favorite for many years and it was so meaningful to be married to my love between them. Our pastor who married us unfortunately passed away a couple days ago so I’m reminiscing with my baby boy now. Gregory is a gift.
I love this song. I live in Amsterdam, near a windmill, and this song really touches me-especially because at the beginning, you can actually see the windmill. To me, this song represents feeling protected and safe because of Amsterdam. It feels like the song is sung from the perspective of the city itself, not a man. So the line 'she follows me down every street' makes me think of how I follow Amsterdam through every street. I’ve truly become myself in this city, and I literally found myself here. That’s why the line 'in Amsterdam she flies' resonates with me so deeply! The song even brought me to tears when I was on my way to view a new house, just outside of Amsterdam. It felt as if I was leaving a part of myself behind. But no matter where I go, I carry the city with me-it will always be in my heart.
Having visited Amsterdam a handful of times now, coincidentally starting a long-distance relationship with a Dutch girl just a week before the US travel ban started in March 2020, and then later playing this song in several concert halls (always giving the man credit) I can say this song makes me feel incredibly grateful to be alive at the same time as Greg... The waltzing feel of this tune and the piano will always resonate with me.
Words cannot express my love for this man's music. He is my all time favorite songwriter. I was lucky enough to see him live for the 2nd time at his sold out Atlanta show in January. I had the privilege of meeting him and getting his autograph on my vinyl copy of "That Sea, The Gambler." I'm still in shock it actually happened.
Well, I can not deny that you have an excellent music taste. This is also my favourite artist. If you close your eyes, you can almost imagine the sceneries of his songs.
Ashley Marlow he seems like a very down to earth overall nice and sweet guy. I'd LOVE to meet him omg there's not a single artist out there now that id rather see live
My husband & I had our first dance at our wedding to the version with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. I can't listen to this without my heart bursting with joy and love.
I lost my service dog mollie on July 2nd 2020 it has almost wreaked my life, this song reminds me of her, she would follow me to the end of the earth. RIP my sweet mollie girl❤️🐶🙏😭
I heard this song for the first time 5 years ago, I remember when I was traveling with my family crossing Europe in a camper. The joy of the fields, of the new cities that I discovered, of the awakening at dawn in places that I had never seen and heard before. Now I'm in my hometown and I'm about to move. I'm scared but fear has never done good things, this song gives me courage what I need to really do it.
Heard this on radio 6, guy garvey's show, while on the way back from visiting my grandma in hospital. 2019 was a hectic year for us my mental heath and this song just brought me back to reality and made me feel like everything will be all right. As we were driving along listening to this all i could see was sunlit trees just budding in spring and everything just made sense
My wife and I got married to this song in 2015. As you can imagine, we put careful thought into it. A testament to how much we love this guys music. I saw him for the first time in 2011 at a music festival in Alberta, the crowd was speechless with one guy saying after it was over "man I just lost myself there for 40 min".
This song to me is about how joy, happiness and the beauty of the world hides and you have to search for it. I went on a trip to Amsterdam- my first trip abroad as an adult and first without my family after I struggled deeply with my mental health for years, I came back I could finally see the light I always knew was there.
This is a song that should play in movie scenes when the two main characters are seperated thinking about each other looking out the window. This is beautiful.Merry Christmas btw!❤️❤️🌟🌲
Glorious "Amsterdam" All inside our Amsterdam she hides Watery-eyed That howling wind, she's waving hi Her other hand's in mine Oh silhouette She's growing tall and fine She's got my back She'll follow me down every street No matter what my crime All inside our Amsterdam she flies Hoarding the kites That howling wind, she'll take everything But she's easy on the eyes Churches and trains They all look the same to me now They shoot you some place While we ache to come home somehow
One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life, and a very wonderful video to accompany it. It makes me think of waking up to a beautiful morning next to a the most beautiful woman I know, my wife, and how much she's gone through with me, how much she's carried me. Imagine waking up in a new country, traveling the entire world with her. Seeing, hearing, tasting, experiencing new things we have never done before. Sharing the love we have with only each other as the sun sets over Amsterdam. The look in her eyes as we head to rest from the long adventurous day, and how she seems so worn and tired with her make up washed away, but still more beautiful than the Moon herself now full-bellied and bright through the window. Feeling like i'm about to cry of joy every time before I kiss her, and finally falling asleep tangled in each others arms. Greg takes me there with this song, even though im still waiting to meet the girl of my dreams. I will find her someday. I know this. Because no matter how many times churches and trains take me away from my grief temporarily, nothing will compare to coming back home to rest in the bed with the one woman I love. Thank you Greg.
Had the privilege to walk throughout Amsterdam with this song on repeat and my headphones on the day after the love of my life left me... And this got me through that day.....

The music in this song goes deep in your senses your mind ...this makes your mind swing so gently...and its such a soft feeling of joy all through this song...loads of love from India to this absolute fantastic singer and his composition. We love this ! The voice is so much touching!its brilliant
My mind is in a dark place again and listening to Gregory Alan Isakovs music in a pitch black room it's tho only safe space I can cry. Thank you for the incredible music man.
Some friends and I were reading conversation cards and the question was "If the people here were songs, what song would they be?" and 1 person said this song would be me. Never been more flattered
I hope record labels and manager's don't corrupt him like it has many great musicians as he gets into the mainstream music industry. This guy is the best lyricist I've heard in awhile. The way he captures the emotion of things. His beautiful music never gets old.
I can feel my shadows breath from behind Growing taller as we slide Into the night One more time He follows behind Together we own all the nights Far from the cities lites We glide No matter black or light or which side of the clock we reside our destiny s collide he follows me all inside no matter the time So together we subside in a paradise Of two became one The birth of a new start He hides Before the howling wind blows up again And we're cast back into the lights tonite
This song really remind of me and my father , he always with me ,under stand me, support me,even if my dream are huge he always walk beside me holding my hand and help me, I love him more than anything,he my best friend
Hello, my dear daughter. My money has no meaning. I would love it if I did not care for my children and their happiness. I want you to bear the vision of knowledge and its development. A medical degree, God willing, from King Faisal University in the city of Hofuf in Ahsa. I am with you at every step, and do not forget to acknowledge my confession. Through it and loving people is the basis of success, and for anyone who is electronic, my daughter, the road is paved with roses for those who want distinction and excellence.
This song makes me feel like a kid again…I don’t know another way to describe it, but it transports me to being 6 years old playing in the grass and flowers with my older sister, a feeling of peace. Being to young to worry about things, not having a care in the world, only caring about what toy I got to play with, or if mom made spaghetti for dinner. We weren’t 19 and 21, we were young and naive, not knowing what the world held for us.
Chord by chord, frame by frame, word by word - this is a work of genius. Woke up with this song resonating from a dream - ding, diddy, ding . . . ding, diddy, ding . . . ding, diddy, ding, ding, diddy, ding . . . ding - d’ding.
All inside our Amsterdam she hides Watery-eyed That howling wind, she's waving hi Her other hand's in mine Oh silhouette She's growing tall and fine She's got my back She'll follow me down every street No matter what my crime All inside Amsterdam she flies Hoarding the kites That howling wind, she'll take everything But she's easy on the eyes Churches and trains They all look the same to me now They shoot you someplace While we ache to come home somehow
In my life I have listened many music, some were good some were bad some were best but this guy is literally a god for me. Only god knows how deep this music goes inside me.
Just so appreciate All the players laced through that beautiful voice that so evokes my Trance. And it’s a strong hunger that’s never quenched just gotta listen. I share you so much and that’s not enough either
Me, my wife and our kids drove from Ohio to Bryson City, North Carolina to stay in a beautiful cabin for a week. The cabin had a hot tub on the back deck. This song was playing as me and my wife held eachother in the hottub under the stars of North Carolina. This song will always bring me back to that beautiful moment.
Discovered this song from "Girls", while I was watching I fell asleep and the show played for hours, I was gently woken out of a deep sleep by the beauty of this song, and of course it made me cry. So beautiful, so thankful to be able to hear this.
It's songs like this where I can't wait to come & read though the comments. You just know there are going to be so many good stories. Thank you to all who share their memories & thoughts.
Honestly, there is so much more to The Netherlands than just Amsterdam! If you have the possibility to visit other cities or even regions in The Netherlands, don't hesitate to go there to!
Lyrics : All inside our Amsterdam she hides Watery-eyed That howling wind, she's waving hi Her other hand's in mine Oh silhouette She's growing tall and fine She's got my back She'll follow me down every street No matter what my crime All inside our Amsterdam she flies Hoarding the kites That howling wind, she'll take everything But she's easy on the eyes Churches and trains They all look the same to me now They shoot you some place While we ache to come home somehow

I walked down the aisle to the version of this song with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Couldn't ask for a better song

We had that version for our first dance! Makes me teary every time I hear it x

Please tell me you have an Amsterdam or reference tattoo somewhere - must!! What a great song choice. 💯

MrAflac9916 I totally agree!!!
That is clearly a lie. I have heard of him, and so has my wife. And her friend Dorothy, who has a great rack.
Your songs are like winter sunlight, takes away all the coldness. Quite happy to find you.
That's a beautiful way to describe it!
Fleeting, flat, cold. Whew, that could have gone in many directions.

It's music like this that makes life worth living.
Absolutely

In my opinion, Gregory has the most beautiful and haunting voice I’ve ever heard. Hands down.

Ah, I hear you…but…it’s like life, short, as so to be savored.
Oh how beautiful this song is. Everything I need to remind me of the good things in life even when life and separation is hard.
I hope record labels and manager's don't corrupt him like it has many great musicians as he gets into the mainstream music industry. This guy is the best lyricist I've heard in awhile. The way he captures the emotion of things. His beautiful music never gets old.
Doroteo Garza he's been writing and singing for a good decade now, he's not going to change his style in a bad way.
Great dynamics in this song! With crescendo... and then the piano coming in....
I can feel my shadows breath from behind
Growing taller as we slide
Into the night
One more time
He follows behind
Together we own all the nights
Far from the cities lites
We glide
No matter black or light or which side of the clock we reside
our destiny s collide
he follows me all inside no matter the time
So together we subside in a paradise
Of two became one
The birth of a new start
He hides
Before the howling wind blows up again
And we're cast back into the lights tonite
2:25 Este trecho me traz uma sensação que não sei explicar... Uma saudade, uma nostalgia. Não sei. É intenso e bonito. ❤️
I love this song. No matter where I am or what my mood is, I instantly get lost in this. It just washes over you.
Beautiful!

Goosebumps every single time
Same
Where have I been without Gregory Alan Isakov in my life?
I sometimes use his music in my classes (kids age 6-12) because his music is a treat for the ear! What an artist!
Chord by chord, frame by frame, word by word - this is a work of genius. Woke up with this song resonating from a dream - ding, diddy, ding . . . ding, diddy, ding . . . ding, diddy, ding, ding, diddy, ding . . . ding - d’ding.
All inside our Amsterdam she hides
Watery-eyed
That howling wind, she's waving hi
Her other hand's in mine
Oh silhouette
She's growing tall and fine
She's got my back
She'll follow me down every street
No matter what my crime
All inside Amsterdam she flies
Hoarding the kites
That howling wind, she'll take everything
But she's easy on the eyes
Churches and trains
They all look the same to me now
They shoot you someplace
While we ache to come home somehow
+Eric Fredericks what do you think it's about?
Life, death and the in between of course..
Gracias

this is the warmest song i have ever heard.
Most beautiful song I have heard. My fiancé is walking down the isle to this song. Thank you and please keep making music from the heart.
Beautiful and haunting. The lyrics are amazing.
A good Sunday afternoon song . God Bless !!!
This video captures both my love for this song, and Amsterdam.
Thank you Jasmine, we'll follow and grow together. I'm so proud of you
Churches and trains xx
These musicians are truly blessed.
this song helped me cry and i needed to cry and thank you so much
Played this for our wedding.
It was so beautiful.
She still has my back ❤
Very nice song and an impressively made video. The opening is quite reminiscent of all mixed up by red house painters, another great song.
Compare the opening, very similar chord progression and instrumentation: th-cam.com/video/GQSUIRDs6VE/w-d-xo.html
I heard this song yesterday live and I cried. How beautiful!
This is my first listen to Isakov. Beautiful, excellent!
In awe. You ever feel completely bored of life..then you hear something like this.. my mind is tingling
This video is fantastic. The symbolism of the shadow as the self is perfect.
I lost my wife this past May. This song, amongst others, remind me of our love, her soul, and the beauty of my memories with her.
Sorry to hear. I’m sure she’s with you guiding you everyday ✨🙏🏻
Love the calmness this song makes me relax 😊
I discovered you at Hill House and I’ve been listening your music ever since. Is like a caress to the soul.
My soul was dancing.
I so agree
As someone from Amsterdam, makes this song 1000x more beautiful 💛
Just got word that I'm getting sent by my job to Amsterdam for 6 weeks. This song is on my mind.
I can't wait until the day I get to go to Amsterdam....

It's cool, but this song is cooler.
Honestly, there is so much more to The Netherlands than just Amsterdam! If you have the possibility to visit other cities or even regions in The Netherlands, don't hesitate to go there to!
i love this song so much. just hearing the very beginning of it makes me happy
Beautiful imagery for a beautiful song. Well done indeed.
