At 12:57 or so... you are talking about the "short handrail" but look at her feet. The snow pile she is standing on looks almost like it would reach her knees if it were soft. In summer the rail would be that much higher. I'd say the fact the rail is there, and mesh would stop you from slipping off (under the rail) and allow for some snow clearing. Though if her feet slid backward she might go over from that position.

Unfortunately, no snowshoes were shown in the video. Older styles of snowshoes were similar to strapping tennis raquets to your feet, thus distributing your weight over a wider surface area of the snow so you don't sink down as far as you would if you tried to walk on just regular boots. 🎾🥾 More modern showshoes tend to be more rectangular shaped. They're generally more comfortable to walk in because you're not required to swing your leg quite as widely to avoid hitting against your opposite leg when bringing the foot forward for each step. (Hope that makes sense; it's awkward to describe! 🤔☺️)
About the height of the handrail on the trail, look back to her feet and you'll see that she appears to be standing on maybe 8-10 inches of hard-packed snow between her feet and the decking of the walkway. When the snow melts, that's likely a very appropriate handrail barrier height!

They did not show any snowshoeing. They are now metal and rubber but still large and paddle like. They are great from deep snow but are more of a cumbersome pain in shallow snow. Also, the best view of Banff is at night on a clear night. It is magical in winter but beautiful in the summer.

Banff is beautiful, but its downsides are significant: it's absolutely over-run by tourists and EXPENSIVE. They talked about, but didn't show, either snowshoeing or the helicopter tour. I live in Alberta just a few hours away, but for the cost of what they described they were going to do, I could hop on a plane and go to Hawaii or Australia for the same amount of time.

You're right, that was not snowshoeing, they were simply hiking in winter boots.

That’s a glacier, with interstitial moraines
And they do not ever alter a waterfall in winter so it could be Ice climbed.
The thought of even trying has never…
