I'm using it happily for wildlife photography. No issues whatsoever.

Nice. Weird how Canon sold flagship crop sensor DSLRs, almost a decade after their first full frame DS models. 16mp is (in my completely arbitrary estimation) the lowest pixel number that offers almost no practical disadvantage for the majority of users in 2024.

Only until you start printing big. Pretty sure that's why they went bigger, and the fact they've always lagged behind in the noise department. Downsampling hides the noise. They also needed speed.

@@dct124Fair point about print size. Shots from this camera worked out for a recent album cover job, but I haven't really pushed it much further to see what would happen on something bigger!

@@UlyssesGrantParm You can for sure print big with 16mp. I mean big prints for like galleries.
That 1D is a perfect body. Even the video formats are still perfect for current broadcast news submissions and social media. Shoot even the Nikon D3s video formats are still more than enough today as it's downsampling a 12mp or higher than 4K DCI resolution, down to 720p. The footage can be upscaled to 1080p or 4K.

Oh man 🙏 this is the coolest 😮 another “on point” movie reference, a banging camera, and top it of with amazing photos 🎉 the shots of the cats, all the black and white shots, and that black and white head shot portrait of your old man 🤩 so so good 👌

Or go totally retro and get an EOS1. With its power winder probably the best ever pro 35mm film camera. Took thousands of shots with mine and even with Velvia, it maybe gave 1 in 1000 shots under or over exposed. Feels wonderful in your hand. Still have it and it’s works fine and looks like new. Bought in 1990…….

The camera is fantastic in hands. The last of its kind. A bit smaller than 1DX, similarly convenient and reliable. Crop-factor is weird, though. Yeah, and the shutter sound is so loud, damn... But 1DX is still louder. Anyway, the mechanics and colours of 1DIV are outstanding, it's a pleasure to use. P.S. Don't leave us for so long without videos, Parm! 😋

Man !! I was just thinking about your channel the other day. I’ve been showing my 5D classic love lately and it made me think back to your videos and the wrist strap you sent me. After switching to Fuji for awhile too I still like to come back every now and then to my older canon cameras. Lately I have really been looking to pick up a 40D but have always been interested in the 1D lineup as well.
Speaking of the blue lcd screen, that is something they did in the Eos 650, the auto focus EF mount film camera. One major flaw of that camera however is that it had a battery draining issue (brand new batteries would die overnight), and the fix for it was to actually cut the wire that lit up the lcd screen. With the blue light being so cool I couldn’t manage to do that. I bought 4 models that all ended up suffering from the battery drain issue so now they just all sit on my shelf 😂 Anyways hope things have been well! Love seeing your vids pop up

Wes!!! Great to hear from you, man! I'm glad to hear that you're getting good use out of your Classic. Is the strap holding up? Also, that's so interesting about the 40D--I have been on the lookout for one of the smaller Canon bodies (like a 30D or 40D). Incidentally, have you tried the original 6D? Feels small relative to the Classic while shooting very similar looking images to my eye...
Ooh, I didn't know that about the 650 LCD. And now that you mention it, I don't know what color the LCD is on my film EOS 1N. Let me check. Hey, it's blue! (Very weak for some reason, but blue all the same).
Great to hear from you, Wes!

@@UlyssesGrantParm The wrist strap is great! It pairs so nicely with my fuji xt20 since that camera is so small and light. The 40D is the same heavy duty body as the 5D classic. Almost the exact same button layout too with the exception of the playback buttons being below the screen. I found a nice listing after I commented and hopefully that will be in this week.
I own the 6D! I do love that camera. The bump up to 21mp is nice and the screen is much better than that of the 5D. I used the 6D for a long time as my main camera and really enjoyed it. It’s not the fastest camera in the world (especially in live view mode) but still an amazing bargain for a good full frame camera. Having more dynamic range compared to the 5d was a huge plus for me because I needed to pull shadows and we both know the 5D wasn’t amazing for that. I just try to overexpose the 5D because the highlights are easier to bring down in that regard.
To me, the 5D classic and the Fujifilm xt1 give the same feeling and results when shooting. Both are great to shoot jpeg only without having to do many, if any, edits. Whereas the 6D and the xt2 are nice upgrades that allow more room to crop and colorgrade and were much better to use for paid work. The xt2 and the xh1 have been my main cameras for years now. I just keep the cannons for fun because they’re still so good.

Right on! Thanks for the info about the 40D size-I didn’t realize it was that beefy!
It’s really cool that you have so many great cameras. And thanks for the awesome insight about which you use for jpeg vs RAW, which you under vs overexpose, etc. That was a masterclass in two paragraphs!
And the x-t20 sounds like the ideal camera for that strap. I tried one on the 1D IV. Ha!

Leica is not a common people's camera. Neither does it enjoy an array of lenses of all types.
Agree, that it enjoys a good status among some.
