    Sir, this is by far one of the best explanations of the differences between the main formats (you missed the mft, but all your general considerations are valid for it as well).
    Anyway, I have watched lots of videos on the matter and yours is one of the most informative, an excellent tutorial indeed !

    Once I heard about the a6700, I knew it was going to be a special camera, and it is. Anyone using it will realize they don't need a FF camera body, many FF lenses and a lot of money. The lenses for aps-c from Sigma, Tamron, Viltrox and many others are much cheaper, price wise, than FF lenses. And the aps-c body has the benefit of using FF lens to great effect. It's all there.
    Thanks for making a very clear presentation of the two formats. This is highly recommended for those just getting into photography.
    BTW, I had fun with medium format cameras decades ago. Lots of fun but nowhere as much fun as 35mm film cameras.

      I’m a working small time pro… and my second body is a 5100! And get this- I use my Zeiss 85 full frame on it most of the time, because I use a zoom on my main body for more flexibility, but then have that Zeiss ready when it fits the subject, and yes, it’s worth every penny. That said, in my experience, is full frame worth it? Yes. It’s just better, the headroom and depth of field capabilities do matter to me. And yes if you’re never going to go full frame, don’t bother with ff lenses, there are many excellent crop lenses out there. But for an aspiring pro, crop bodies are fine to start with, but building a bag of full frame lenses is a good idea. The best crop lenses aren’t exactly cheap! Also, buy all bodies and lenses used, period. ;)

    Fantastic video bru ! Super easy to understand explanations. I actually bought the FX30 as a B cam to my FX3 for a few of those reasons, the focal lengths and having the benifits of both worlds. Shot a metal festival a few weeks back and when editing the video I had no idea which shot was from which camera. Also the price of APSC glass is something that makes me happy, I bought as set of Cineprimes that are T1.05 for the price of my Sigma 24-70 F2.8 full frame lens!

    That is the best explanation video I have ever saw! People say FF cameras are better all the time! But they don't account for an actual pixel size on a sensor. Another thing is - you have to use a brighter lens on APS-C, than your kit lens and everything will be fine! 😉

    Very well explained. I do feel like we ask for a lot of stuff in these cameras that we don't need or don't want to actually do the work to make the cameras look and work the way they need. I've watched movies with grain in the shadows, we also want the best Autofocus and we want excellent ibis but, most of the big expensive cameras don't have ibis and constant auto focus or auto focus at all . I feel we are chasing perfection when the best movies and photos were made with imperfections on purpose because it gives character to the images. This allows them to stand out.

    So at the end Full Frame has more background blur and better low light performance compared to APS-C, however with some tricks you can emulate the look of FF on an APS-C camera. I know cause I have used an APS-C camera and now I own a FF camera and it's just easier to work with. Not saying the quality of the images are 10 times better as I was the one using the APS-C camera as well. :) But FF has maybe a bit more advantages.

    I really enjoyed every second of this video. You really hit a couple of nails wich are currently a subject of debate within the photography community. Right now i'm using a Sony A6700 and i can clearly notice some differences with my older generation A6000 camera. It's clear that the gap between a 26mp APS-C and a 33mp Full Frame are getting smaller. And now with the super resolution switch within Adobe Lightroom you can get even more stunning results. Of course i also would like to have a Full Frame camera in the future. But my Sony A6700 is solid ground for now.

    Don’t mind me…. just appreciating this immensely. Philosophically, I agree. Technically, it’s also very helpful. I’m looking for a B Cam. A Cam is full frame and I’m doing pros and cons. But B Cam is basically going to spend its entire life in the studio. So you’re right APSC is gonna be fine because I’ll always have controlled lighting. Don’t need every tool to work for every single job.

    bro... You single handedly saved me a ton of money. I currently have a Sony A6400, and was looking into a full frame under the impression that the pixels mattered so much more than on an APS-C. Your video explained what no other video I've found could explain so well and in great detail without being too complicated to understand. Instead of buying a Sony full frame, I may just look into purchasing the A6700 and upgrading from my current A6400.
    It makes so much more sense now just to stick with an APS-C camera over going full frame, unless maybe I'm wrong? I'm so used to shooting with this camera and I've shot several air shows and concerts with great success. Now it doesn't seem like switching to a full frame camera would really benefit me in any way, correct me if I'm wrong. But I feel like the A6700 could fit my needs far better than going full frame since it's a sensor size I've grown very familiar with. I also have several lenses and a Sony G 70-300 lens that was made for the APS-C sensors.
    Do you think it's best for me to stick with them, or get a full frame?

    • @erwinmarionneaux
      @erwinmarionneaux  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Sounds like apsc is a great fit for you! Your 70-300 has the reach of a 105-450mm so if you switched to full frame, you’d have to get the 100-400 just to do what you’re already able to do.

  • @WolfsHaven

    It's so nice to see a realistic perspective on this.
    For the longest time I've found APS-C the sweet spot between MFT and full frame. Especially if you run a small crew or run and gun filmography. As an independent filmmaker or web content creator these should be the workhorse cameras.
    The smaller the sensor, they are not only more affordable but also generally smaller and lighter, even the lenses and additional support equipment. Recently some APS-C cameras have crammed so much in that they are as large as FF cameras. At the other end they keep trying to shrink the form factor of FF that size and weight is becoming less of a trade off for the body. However in doing so the sizes are getting clunky and or overheat. However your lenses for APS-C cameras are still more affordable.
    In a few more years I think 1" sensors will claim the sweet spot. Especially as we start seeing 1" interchangeable lens cameras. We are already some excellent imagery on the 1" fixed lens cameras. When you know what you're doing, you can even get good shallow depth of field from them.
    I think if you take something like the ZV-1 and put interchangeable lenses on it, it would be a hit. I thought that's what we would get with the ZV-E10 but they went APS-C instead.

    • @erwinmarionneaux
      @erwinmarionneaux  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s because there are no lenses designed for a 1” sensor with a removable mount. The camera industry isn’t really robust enough to support another platform at the moment, MFT is hanging on by a thread so I wouldn’t expect any 1” platforms anytime soon with removable lenses. I do think Sony has found that balance of size and power without overheating but I’ve used many other aps-c cameras that are literally just as big as a full frame camera so I definitely get your point!

    Many thanks. I understand that full frame can be better for wedding, concert, portrait and astrophotography specially for professionals but for me as a amateuer photographer the aps-c fullfills all my needs for cheaper price. Besides its lighter and smaller, too. I startet with a used A6000 with kit-lens for 260 EUR. Step by step I bought good lenses and switched to the A6400. The day will come an I get a A6700. But for now I can do all the things I want to do, landscape, cityscape (at night), milky way, macro, some portraits (therefore I have 1.4 primes). For me it´s the complete right decison I get bothering I someone tells me that if I would only one time use a fullframe, I would never look back. My experience shows me that this people instead of work on their creativity would prefer to buy better gear, or they think, that a picture is only good if you can zoom in 200% an alls ist razorsharp. Other think that only a big bokeh is the measure for good photo. They shoot their cat or dog but sharp is ony everything until the ears. Can be a good photo, but not every time. You named it, the "full frame look". So I´m happy if someone who works with both systems is telling the truth. There are advantages and disadvantes of both systems, but to be honest, in the most cases a aps-c would be enough for the most amateuer photographers if the reasons are not the better ev or the bigger or more buttons. But it does not care me what the reasons of other photographers are, I´m totally ok with it.

    This was really informative. I was really leaning to getting the A7Cii for the full frame look but apsc sounds sufficient enough for my needs. I would like to learn about 1” sensors since they are significantly smaller compared to apsc. Especially with the pocket 3 being a hit.

      1" sensors are much smaller than aps-c sensors BUT a 1" sensor is much bigger than what's found in cellphones and action cameras. So the performance from the pocket 3 is like the middle ground between what a phone can do but not as far as what full cameras can do

    Thank you for the explanation of the difference between the Full and APS-C cameras. I was thinking that you must buy a Full frame if budget allowed to have a good image, but I was wrong. now, I may able to get the camera "I need" with better price and just spend the extra money to the extra lenses :) Mahalo

    I have the a7cr, 61mp, for this reason, best of both, three resolutions to choose from and I have a full range for both crop and FF.
