thank you so much for this video. I have the exact same receiver and this video just saved me a ton of trouble trying to find a replacement part. Following your directions cleaning did the trick!!! Thank you!!!
the first video i looked at and fixed it in just 10 minute same problem came with old woofer with encoder the owner was impressed that it took so little time to fix Credit goes to you sir now he wants to add bluetooth module to it haha thank you sir!!
You *scraped* the contacts 😳?! No no no no no !!!! The intermittent operation isn't caused by "dirt", nor "dust" (the control is well sealed), it is caused by oxidation, aka tarnish. Clean the silicone grease off carefully with Q-tips and a gentle solvent, and polish the contacts and wipers with a pencil eraser. Apply a thin film of clear transistor-heatsink grease to the rotary disc, just a whisper of it, and reassemble. I have refurbished many of these.
I need to replace the rotary encoder on the head unit in my car. The unit is a HH156 CSK 9711D, manufactured by Clarion. The rotor has broken off the stem, and the pins themselves aren't in great condition. I'm trying to figure out exactly what rotary encoder I should replace it with.... any suggestions would be appreciated. Your giggle at 6:38 is invaluable! This is what I call satisfaction! Well done mate :)
6:41 when things work out... Isn't that the truth - I snicker too.

This is so much easier Than the pots I have to replace.
Hey mate, great video.
Any idea what causes the push function to fail on some of these?
Most likely the same reason. Build up of tarnish.
With an STR-DE475 you have to remove the encoder from the board, but otherwise suppa, Danke!
Can you please tell the encoder part number/model? I want to replace the encoder but I dont know the exact model of encoder.
I have a technics su g91 amp with the same problem . Does this proced applies ?
If it uses a rotary encoder, yes.

My amp is not that erratic, but it's not perfect either. I might open it up sometime in the near future.
