July 4, 1979: I was 15, I had NEVER heard the name Led Zeppelin in my life. I had heard the scream of Immigrant Song years earlier but never knew anything about it. Local radio station in LA, KRTH (K-Earth 101) was playing their annual “Firecracker 300” which is the top 300 songs of all time. I’d tune in hear number 260, 210, 180, etc. and decided to record some of the top 20 so I did. After number 2, they went to commercial. I set my living room stereo with pause then play & record so I just release pause to record. It’s how it was done back then. So, Bryan Burns, “Mr. Rock and Roll” comes back on and in a VERY reverend voice, says, “Here is the number 1 song of all time”… I release pause and as this song began in a whisper of guitar and organ, I sit all the way back on the living room recliner. As it build with vocals, electric guitars and drums, I’m really tripping. Those whispers eventually turned into thunder of Bonham and lightning of Page!! And it winds on down the road to a whisper again, I’m out of breath. I felt as if I had just had my first sexual experience!! I’ve been a LedHead since. I had a summer job retouching murals in the housing projects featured in the video, “Where is the Love” by my neighbor’s group, the black eyed peas (Willie was born 3 doors down when I was 11). With my next paycheck, I bought Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II and their 4th album you’re featuring here. On September 25, 1980, I had RESERVE TICKETS to see Led Zeppelin live in concert. Waiting for 3rd period, a friend walked up to me and said, “Sorry about your boy”. I ask what are you talking about? He said, you haven’t heard? Heard what? He said, “John Bonham died”. I said get the F out of here! He said ok and walked away. It was eerie but I learned it was true. Little over 2 months later, on December 4, 1980, Led Zeppelin broke up officially. I was devastated and still haven’t recovered. Then 4 days later, John Lennon was shot dead. It was a bad time!! I heard it from Howard Cossell in Monday night football. I used my tickets in 1983 to see Robert Plant solo tour. I also saw Page/Plant in 1994/5. They were great but not exactly Led Zeppelin without Bonzo and Jonesy. I’ve seen a couple of Led Zeppelin cover bands but the best was Led Zepagain when they had Mr. Jimmy. Last I knew, he was touring with John Bonham s son, Jasón. There’s a movie coming out soon about Mr. Jimmy. It looks interesting, I think you might enjoy it too!! th-cam.com/video/lSaVHb9_PaM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=aUTWmHro21hRj6IJ
I was 15 years old when I first heard this. Immediately I thought this is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. I learned all of the lyrics in a couple of days as I listened to this masterpiece repeatedly. I bought all of the Led Zepp albums.
This album means so much to me - it was released on 8th November 1971 - I was 15 and went with my friends to see Led Zeppelin on 29th November, just 3 weeks after the album's release. It was the first concert I had ever been to and is still the best, over 50 years later
Do yourself a favor.. now that you know what the artist wanted you to hear (studio version ), you can listen to it live, it's freaking awesome. One of the Best Live Guitar Solos ever... No joke.
I have a very distinct memory of this song. Where I went to high school, the junior and seniors had their own cafeteria, and the St. Louis FM radio station was piped into the cafeteria during the lunch hour. I might have been a junior but I remember when Stairway came on, the mood in the cafeteria just shifted. Like everyone just wanted to sit and listen.
Yes, you need to see the Live at MSG performance asap!! It's legendary and epic in a way that cannot be put into words... I promise your mind will be blown!!🙃 Beautiful reaction!!!🥰 Peace and light...💞
I was maybe 8 or 9 years old. Our local pop music channel did Friday Night All Request and that was where I caught most of my mix tape music. So this song would get played toward the end of the show, and I loved it. It took about 15 years for me to find out the song was Stairway and the band was Led Zeppelin.. I had no idea, I just knew I loved it! It wasn't until I listened to all their stuff in my mid 20s that I was like damn, bruh! These guys covered almost everything! If you're into it, check out the Kennedy Center Honors Led Zeppelin.. worth it.. watching their reactions to their music was pretty awesome!
Watching your reaction vids of LZ and PF has been like discovering them all over again. I was about 2 years old when I first heard this music. Imagine being an empty slate and the impact this art form would have on that young of a mind. It will never leave me.
One of my mottos of life is in this song! Yes there are two paths that you can go by, but in the long run, there is still time to change the road your on!! Also getting older I really understand, my spirit is crying for leaving!! EXCELLENT!!
I was 13 yrs old in 8th grade at St. Mary’s School, 1972, when I first heard this album. I loved the whole thing, still an absolute classic. Stairway To Heaven, so good. My friends and I all loved it!!
Heard this first sitting on the floor of Mike Eubanks' bedroom. When it was finished, we replayed it. This was when it came out on vinyl back in the day.
What a great Dad! You giving your baby a bottle at the end, listening to Stairway, almost made me cry. I bottle-fed my son a lot; unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to play Stairway. No regrets though; he'll discover them one way or another.
I was 18 when this was released and no matter how often I hear it, and I've heard it a lot, it is always fresh. One of the best songs from one of the all time great bands.
Growing up every junior and senior high school dance ended with this. You may have waited the entire night just to get 7+ minutes of bliss with a girl willing to dance. Sometimes I wonder if I truly appreciated the greatness of Led Zeppelin back then or if I just was greatful for the assist in learning the ropes androunding the bases❣️ Love the reaction you are a true Led Head❤
I think its actually meant to be souls (which makes more sense) but Plant sometimes has a habit of not pronouncing the last letters of words or of pronouncing them very quietly.
The meaning depends on where you are in your journey. It’s a masterpiece, like a timeless poem, unraveling through the years. After 50 years of listening to this song the “lady” is Lady Liberty and the song is an admonishment for consumerism and abandoning sound economic principles. In my mind I can make every line fit, but that’s just me, in this time.
I first heard this at age 15...at 17 I got to see them live in their last US tour...It was my favorite song then and still is today...a pure masterpiece.
Hey LiL J, just thought you would like to know that I've been a "LedHead" since the 70's, saw them at least 20 times or so, couldn't get enough of them. Best times of my life 🤟😜🎶
I was 17 when a bunch of us heard this song for the first song. We were already fans of Zepplin but this song took it to another level...in which no other band can beat...As a matter of fact, I broke my Zepplin CD and just got another one yesterday...It was a good time to be a teenager then...We had alot of fun...Thanks for the reaction.
Yep - as someone below noted - always, always the last song at 1980s middle school dances, Stairway (one or two times, Freebird) - I have heard it a million times but still adore it, it is such a ride. I love how it opens up and gets bigger and louder and faster
I am 65 and have loved the GOAT since 11 years old which would be 1969. This Album is great, I have all their Vinyl's Keep going react to the next Album.
Hope you're going to do all the albums! Physical Graffiti - masterpiece. And there are a few filmed concerts that are fantastic too. and hundreds of bootlegged concerts. Led Zeppelin live is a whole other experience - amazing -even so many, many years later.
First time I heard this song, was n Junior High music class. Our music teacher played it for us in the reels. But he played it backwards. (Maybe four years later I heard it in the radio forwards. Was much better that way!)
The most impactful and spiritually uplifting songs are the ones that contain a glorifying, cathatric buildup....and none do it better than this all-time classic!
when you look up the definition of "Filthy" it's the Live performance at Madison Square Gardens 1973 you'll be left shaking and speechless and mind blown, love you, brother
Plant's refusal to pin down any meaning to the song is not because the song is meaningless, but because were he to do so, he would be committing the same error as the lady in the song. The whole album has a thematic subtext of the need for both stasis (rock) and movement (roll) and how the exclusive holding on of the former ('to be a rock') will inevitably eventually be broken down by movement ('when the levee breaks, mama you've got to move'). Fittingly, therefore, in line with this subtext, the very first words of the opening song happen to be, 'Hey hey mama said the way you MOVE.....'
Checkout more music by YES. "The Gates of Delirium", "Awaken", "Starship Trooper" lots more. Greatest prog rock group. Zeppelin is the greatest hard rock group in my opinion.

This is, officially, the #1 Classic Rock song of all time. Thanks for your reaction.
Greatest song of all time. You'll never be tired of it. Ever.

I endorse this comment!
To hear young people react to classic rock songs with such happiness and awe literally brings tears to my eyes.
One of the greatest rock albums ever. This song , Stairway , is more than just a song. Everything stops when this song is played. 🤘🎸🔥
I was maybe 8 or 9 years old. Our local pop music channel did Friday Night All Request and that was where I caught most of my mix tape music. I've heard this legendary song a million times and it gave me chills listening to your reaction. That's the definition of a classic song!
You both need to see the live version!!

Watching your reaction vids of LZ and PF has been like discovering them all over again. I was about 2 years old when I first heard this music. Imagine being an empty slate and the impact this art form would have on that young of a mind. It will never leave me.

That was the most unique way to end a video! Beautiful man, feeding your child to the sounds of a masterpiece
I was 13 yrs old in 8th grade at St. Mary’s School, 1972, when I first heard this album. I loved the whole thing, still an absolute classic. Stairway To Heaven, so good. My friends and I all loved it!!
still amazes me that there are still people discovering this song. such a pillar of popular radio for decades.
Heard this first sitting on the floor of Mike Eubanks' bedroom. When it was finished, we replayed it. This was when it came out on vinyl back in the day.
Any relation to Summer?
What a great Dad! You giving your baby a bottle at the end, listening to Stairway, almost made me cry. I bottle-fed my son a lot; unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to play Stairway. No regrets though; he'll discover them one way or another.
I ❤love your love for Led Zeppelin. My favorite all time band since 1977🎶🎶🎵🎶🎵
I first heard them in 1970 at 10 years old...hooked for life!! Greatest band ever!
I was 18 when this was released and no matter how often I hear it, and I've heard it a lot, it is always fresh. One of the best songs from one of the all time great bands.

Love the reaction you are a true Led Head❤
There is a reason this was voted the number 1 rock song of all time. Always the last song at our High School dances in the late 70s and early 80s.
"And as we wind on down the road, our shadows taller than our soul"
I think its actually meant to be souls (which makes more sense) but Plant sometimes has a habit of not pronouncing the last letters of words or of pronouncing them very quietly.
Great reaction well done. Yeah, this is a truly awesome song.

You need to watch the live 👍🏻 this song brings bk so many happy memories as a teenage Rock chick🤘🏻🎸🎶❤️
You will love the HEART version them singing in front of Zeppelin - it will make you cry.
This is the greatest band ever! 4 most talented musicians ever!
I first heard this at age 15...at 17 I got to see them live in their last US tour...It was my favorite song then and still is today...a pure masterpiece.
As I often say...Played to death years ago, but still one of the greatest songs ever recorded. Nothing in the past few decades comes close.
Hey LiL J, just thought you would like to know that I've been a "LedHead" since the 70's, saw them at least 20 times or so, couldn't get enough of them. Best times of my life 🤟😜🎶

The GOATs
This.....Entire Album J.🖤🔥🔥🔥🔥
I am 65 and have loved the GOAT since 11 years old which would be 1969. This Album is great, I have all their Vinyl's Keep going react to the next Album.
I don’t know if you’ve done the song Kashmir by Zeppelin yet…but it’s a Phenomenal song. You may want to check it out!
The LIVE version is sooooo amazing! ⚡😎⚡
Great reaction to the GOATs!
Without a doubt "Stairway To Heaven" is nothing less than a banger my brother!!!
Robert has said that the lyrics were the ramblings of a 22 year old hippie 😊
Probably a bit stoned at the time but he did say the lyrics came to him fast, in a flow.
Hope you're going to do all the albums! Physical Graffiti - masterpiece. And there are a few filmed concerts that are fantastic too. and hundreds of bootlegged concerts. Led Zeppelin live is a whole other experience - amazing -even so many, many years later.

(Maybe four years later I heard it in the radio forwards. Was much better that way!)
Maybe the greatest song ever written
“It’s going to be my favorite song, period”!

Definitely need to watch the live version!!!!!!!
Just. Wait for JIMMY !❤
You should check out the live version of No Quarter from madison square garden
Amazing track.
Grew up on their music. We had the best music back then.
The most impactful and spiritually uplifting songs are the ones that contain a glorifying, cathatric buildup....and none do it better than this all-time classic!
Even if off camera, do yourself the pleasure of viewing Heart covering this song at Kennedy Center Honors. I promise, you will love it.
Love the Maiden T-Shirt - \m/ UP THE IRONS \m/
Best rock song of all time hands down
when you look up the definition of "Filthy" it's the Live performance at Madison Square Gardens 1973 you'll be left shaking and speechless and mind blown, love you, brother
No Quarter from madison square garden is epic.
Boring song? This song is a masterpiece. Greatest rock song ever written..
STH: it's about the music.
Since I've been loving you is one you should listen to!
Impossible to match this, the side one closer, unless you consider the side two closer - When The Levee Breaks. Epic Heavy Blues Rock thunder!
Best SONG - 50 yrs old.
The final song of every middle-school dance in the early 80s.
You should watch their concert movie called the Song Remains The Same
My reaction was like yours when I heard it on the radio. 😢
You must watch the Madison Square Garden performance very soon! It is legendary 🎶🎸

Robert Plant was a big fan of Tolkien too, so you will see some references to The Hobbit.
