    That bird chirping at the beginning fitted the music quite well......even the lyrics! ("there's a songbird that sings" and "there's a bustle in your hedgerow" and then the cat appears, LOL. The live version of this from Madison Square Garden in 1973 has an extended (double-neck) guitar solo that's a classic.

    The production values back then, when they only had 8 or 16 tracks, puts today’s production values to shame. Never over produced, clean, clear, and each band’s songs were as totally unique from each other as much as each band was unique from every other band. The sonic landscape of the later 60s and early 70s set a bar that has never been reached since.

  • @kylebakke594
    @kylebakke594 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good choice for a first listen. Led Zeppelin is known for very hard rock but they have many songs like this where they go from soft to hard and back again. Their lead guitarist is a master and knows just when to use acoustic guitar and when to switch to electric guitar to get the perfect balance of sound. My recommendation for your second listen: “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You.” That one also starts off mellow with acoustic guitar, then goes large, then back to mellow again. I’m sure other commenters here will suggest more songs. Led Zeppelin was a hit factory back in the 70s so there are a ton of good songs out there.
    I predict that each new 70’s era rock band song you hear will make you want to hear more. The musicians of that decade actually influenced each other to produce better songs and the result was a ton of legendary compositions. Enjoy the ride, man.

    Back in the day, high school,1971 this was the national stoner anthem played at every party, bongs and beer, we used to call this HIGH way to Heaven. Everyone played this album at their parties, smoking and toking, no party was complete without listening to Stairway to Heaven. 40 plus years later my reaction to this song is more like what you're hearing and feeling for the first time but without the cloud of pot smoke fogging up the memories of what this song has meant to so many of us members of the stoner generation and beyond.

    You're right, you can't listen to it just one time, that's why we were fortunate enough to get to listen to it 5 or 6 times a day on the Album Rock stations back in the day. Growing up in the 70s Stairway To Heaven was etched into our minds. It's been voted number one countless times as being the greatest rock song of all time.

    The way I describe this song id it fills you up - from the tip of your toes to the ends of your hair. It's like having a great meal - when you finished you're full and satisfied and at peace, with things to sit back and think about. True artistry.

    That flute that you hear is actually a Mellotron - A synth-like instrument from the 50s that can emulate Human choir, strings, and woodwind

      Abracadabra 303 it’s so refreshing to hear an opinion that is considered and really giving the music a chance. I’m 35 and grew up on hip hop , Eminem , Dre and my mother really tried to get me into pink Floyd and zeppelin and I never got it until after she died when I was as 21 . I wish I could have a conversation with her about it now. I love your input it’s unique in this TH-cam genre . If I could recommend certain songs either privately or for your channel they would be , free bird by Lynard skynard live at Oakland and a classic would be hotel California by the eagles and for a good old dirty rock song with blues feels black Betty by Ram Bam . New sub 💖

    You just listened to the most popular and famous song in rock history. Not a bad start. LOL. However, not many of their songs are like this song. Zeppelin is HEAVILY influenced by the old blues masters like Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson to name a few. So many of their songs, especially from the first 4 albums have a lot of blues and rock stuff mixed together. I would suggest at some point faily early that you listen and watch to some of their live performances. Especially anything from the Madison Square Garden concert form 1973 called "The Song Remains the Same." Live they take it to a whole new level as they often improvise and greatly extend the song from the studio version. Also, they have some of the best stage presence you have ever seen in a band. And they just ooze sex appeal on stage. Especially the singer Robert Plant. His tight jeans alone females find very distracting because of uhm what is more than hinted at under the jeans. LOL. Every member of the group is consider a top 5 at what he does. With the drummer consider the GOAT of rock music.
