I put milk powder mixed with water and seaweed liquid fertilizer under my tomatoes about now, autumn, it gives them an incredible boost to ripen. Spring here in NZ and freeezing cold, too much snow on the south islands mountains.
Hi Mark, great video as always! Our weather has been exactly like yours today but it's been the same all day for the last 3 days. Dull, dreary & wet. I've loads of unripe tomatoes like a lot of people. I too have been removing flowers, leaves and pea size tomatoes. I was hoping for good weather throughout September but my forecast in South Yorkshire is miserable all week. I'm also getting a lot of condensation in my polytunnel plus slugs & way too many spiders 😮😊 Take care
Thanks Jacqui. Fog one week and now a cold snap! We were down to 3c last night and meant to be colder tonight. Hoping we don't get a frost or it might be the end of the tomatoes before we know it!👍🌱👍
Hi Mark, I have been doing the same, chopping away at the leaves, trying to ripen my tomatoes. Clearing some, raised beds too. Great video, thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Thanks Christine. Had a quick check on the tomatoes today and they seem to be doing ok. More of the Pink Brandywine starting to ripen which I'm looking forward to 👍🌱👍
Heya Mark, those dark toms you have, they take absolutely aaaaages to ripen, when you lifted yours up I noticed they had green underneath so they are not ready yet. I'm growing a few black varieties this year, including indigo rose and black moon and they definitely are taking the longest. Once they start to blush some colour you can take them and ripen the rest of the way indoors. Wait until they are a bit squidgier even when they have some colour to know they are ripe enough. Your Romas look good, interesting, it looks you have kept them to 1 stem as they are usually grown as a semi-determinate bush. I love them for sauces. I'm also really liking San Marzano 2 and Piramide. I grow all my toms outside (I'm cambridgeshire) and this year decided I'm not snipping my plants at all with my pruners, instead I'm hand snapping the branches off. Apparently it helps them to heal quicker, which reduces risk of disease getting in. They are doing good still so far, though going to be colder next week so they're not going to be too happy.
Unfortunately our tomatoes haven’t done to well as planted to late recently got a polly so have moved in there fingers crossed will see prepping for nxt season now
Hi Mark. Nice to see you have some lovely ripe tomatoes. I have had a shocker of a year with mine. In the polytunnel I've struggled with blossom end rot. My fault I think due to erratic watering. I may get some quad grows for next year. How have you found them? My outside toms just haven't had the chance to ripen yet. Oh well. you win some you lose some. Have a great week. Mags
Mixed results for me on the quadgrow front. I think they're a great bit of kit but think I didn't have them in the right spot in the greenhouse, not enough sun. I'm going to move them to the polytunnel next year and hopefully have more luck with them there. 👍🌱👍
I have to stop snipping when I'm tired... That's when I just snipp wild and cuts off stems.. 🙈 The only stem with a tiny melon.. 😮 A really nice zucchini stem, a runner from a cucumber... It was not just leaves... 🙈😂
I have just cleared all my tomato beds as there weren't many fruit left on them, but I have had plenty to cook down and freeze for the winter, I had way too many Sungold, to be honest now tired of eating them. Take care.
Hi mark, I took all the leaves of mine too last week because of all the mists in Edinburgh. I tried brandy wine last year,120 days to ripen, too long for these parts.
First the mist and now the cold snap! Down to about 3c last night and meant to be even colder tonight. Pink Brandywine have been ok(ish) so far but the black strawberry ones are turning into a bit of a nightmare. Loads of dark coloured fruit but still not ripe! Hoping the shape up soon as I don't think the plants will last too much longer. 👍🌱👍
@@marksallotmentplot it's brutal. I hope you're plot is ok. You just have keep everything crossed it'll stay the same. I'm on a private plot too and ours is on prime building land but safe for now, I hope!
Hi Mark, a timely video, I’ve just started removing most of the leaves, but I’m down in Cornwall, so a bit warmer than Scotland i would imagine. If I do take all the leaves off, am I correct in what you said, that the plants will be fine for up to 6 weeks? Take care Pete.
Hi Pete, if you take the leaves off the plants should last as long as the weather holds out. I reckon they'll be good till at least mid-late October. Saying that we've had a cold snap here the last couple of days with overnight temps down to 3c last night! 👍🌱👍
Good idea Mark I’ll be doing mine tomorrow x
Nice one Mark
Pace yourself Mark don't want you conking out on us! My outdoor tomatoes are finally covered in green fruit-fingers crossed for some sun!
A bit of decent weather still ahead, should be good 👍👍👍
Hi Mark. I agree with you. One last big push in September 🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅👍 Elaine 🌱

I've suffered with BER but only on some plants mixed with many. I give up!!!!
