I really LOVE Omnisphere - If i had to life on a lonely island for one year and only can take one synthesizer with me it would be Omnisphere. And yes, i agree with you: This Tool is very adictive. To me it´s the best soft-synth ever made.
Its only after a few years of living with Omnisphere do really start to realise its probably the best synth, hardware or software, ever made. Bring on Omnisphere 2!
What an excellent demonstration!!! But I have a big problem. Installed all disc, recognized by Cubase but no sound coming. All of my vst's but omnisphere have audio. Same goes with Ableton Live. I'm using windows 7 64bit and a Roland A49 controller.
I respect this review and I'm glad you're happy with Omnisphere, Greg, but my personal opinion is you overstated a lot of it. I STRONGLY feel if someone has the money to buy only one software instrument product in the price range of Omnisphere, they should get the basic version of Native Instruments Komplete, not Omnisphere. They will get Kontakt, Massive, FM8, Reaktor with Monark, Battery, and Absynth, plus some excellent expansions for Kontakt. As good as Omnisphere is, it simply can't measure up to all of that put together. You didn't point out, for one, that Omnisphere effectively has no drums and no bass guitar, since those are separate Spectrasonics products. And, yes I do own Omnisphere (for a few years now) and yes I do like it quite a bit.
My beef with NI is that once you start getting more experienced with plugins like Massive, you start thinking "if only I had "this", then it would all be perfect...". Which means you go out and most likely buy another NI plugin. With my experience, I found Omnisphere to be a better "all in one" package for synth sounds. That, coupled with its organization and patch library, makes it a way better bang for buck than any single NI plugin available. Yes, Omnisphere doesn't have any drums or bass guitar patches, but that's like saying NI Battery has no lead sounds. It's implied in the video I'm only talking about soft synths, not drum machines or bass plugins.
I guess it depends on what sound you are after. Omnisphere is very "synthy" sounding. The guitar sounds don't sound like real guitar at all IMO where as in Komplete you have samples of real acoustic instruments. I guess its apples and oranges really. No point in comparing a synth to a sampler since their applications are different.
absolutely, I actually sold my omnisphere a few months back. It just didn't speak to me the way I thought it would have. Komplete on the other hand with all the tons of samples and fx and synths and sound generators and drums etc etc is way, way more inspirational and useful. Omnisphere is overpriced completely too
On your set up, how are you storing all of these devices? combined just with Komplete and Omnisphere you're looking at 180+GB of data Do you store everything on an external (say for a laptop) or do you have multiple drives within your case?
Really debating on getting this. I know it's a great synth....decision has to do with whether I need it. Price of Omnisphere is actually quite good considering what your getting. Just wondering what the cpu usage is like for it. I'm using a Late 2012 MacBook Pro with Intel i7 quad core processor, 750GB Samsung SSD, 16GB RAM.
Bought omnisphere yesterday, its not easy to navigate around until the method is learned. Just have to sit through a few hrs video and watch the online omnisphere vids they have on the support page. I thought I'd bring it home and get right into it, haha, it took 4 hrs just to load the 8 dvd's. 4 hrs to configure Reaper DAW and get my keyboard functioning with everything else. I'll try again today.
+Greg Chase One month later, i am using omnisphere more than anything else, its that good to my ear. I have a korg kronos that is reduced to being little more than a trigger to play Omnisphere. I could have saved myself $2K and just got a good midi keyboard instead of the kronos. I'm finding theres a few very good 3rd party sound designers too.
Trillian and Omnisphere are like mac and cheese. Omnisphere has great synth/ lead sounds. Trillian has great bass sounds. They both complement each other. My advice- get Omnisphere first, and then decide if you want Trillian. Trying to learn both at the same time may be overwhelming.
Is there a way to keep this all stored on a hard drive and not my computer?. I'm using Ableton as well so maybe custom folder? any tutorials on this you can recommend?
Hey I've got omnisphere and it's saying the files are corrupted or missing but yet it's receiving and playing the midi but no sounds, any reasons as to why
A few solutions I can give you: 1. Restart your computer. That sometimes works after installation. 2. Locate the files, and make sure they're present in the folder you installed them to. You don't have to look for all 8,000, but just make sure they are in the specified location. 3. Contact Spectrasonics. They're awesome when it comes to troubleshooting. Hope this helps!
Thanks man, I appreciate you taking the time. why so many tight assholes are usually musicians or maybe wanna be musicians whining about something. good job thanks
Omnisphere will work with ReWire! Since Reason is an "all in one" DAW, you can't add any 3rd party plugins to it. I'd recommend you run Omnisphere in a DAW like Ableton or Logic, and then send that signal into Reason 7.
Greg Chase Thank You Greg. I really can´t dig why Propellerheads refuse to let 3rd party plugins in Reason. I don´t wanna buy another daw like Ableton just to get the signal running into Reason as you can understand :) Have to call the Pheads to solve this somehow in the future.
I use it with a trick in reason 7. Just create a new midi instrument. Use Loop Be for midi transaction. Than download a free vst host like tobybear minihost and start the plugin. Now route the output signal of minihost to a new audioline in reason (send to asio 3 and 4). You need a good soundcard for this, for example emu 1616. Thats it. With this trick you can open Reason for all the nice vst instruments and synthesizers ;-)
The statement was made for those that aren't aware of the cost. For software that costs what Omnisphere does, you need to think hard about if the purchase is truly worth it.
Tom Witcher Better to act professional than unprofessional. I hate when people use "like", "uh", or "you know" in a product review, because it devalues the review, and makes you sound way too amateur.
Not sure if you're being sarcastic but yeh... I wish I could find a VST with good synth strings (I mean strings that sound like pads not violins, etc.) I've tried Alchemy and it's pretty awesome but yeh.
Will DAW ( Cubase 7 or FL sudio) detect it if installed on other patrition?Must the program be installed on system partition and sounds stored somewhere else?My c drive is not really big. Thanks
Why in the hell would you buy that? Are you professional music composer? $500, takes up 64 gigs, yeah sure it sounds nice, but IT'S A FUCKING PLUGIN, IT'S NOT EVEN DAW FOR FUCK'S SAKES $500 FOR A FUCKING VSTI PLUGIN LOL LMFAO LEL KEK TOP LEL

thanks for the time you put in and the subsequent overview.
Im only minutes into this video but I love it already !

Greg Chase, excellent review, I like it, very clear.
What an excellent demonstration!!! But I have a big problem. Installed all disc, recognized by Cubase but no sound coming. All of my vst's but omnisphere have audio. Same goes with Ableton Live. I'm using windows 7 64bit and a Roland A49 controller.
omg...that t-rex sound! this looks like a sick little plug
It's called "Tesla Coil". And yes, it's awesome!
thanks for the review

komplete is shit amazing sounds but so complex to set up, i really want this vst i will be getting it today

This is a fantastic review. Omnisphere is definitely worth the money. Any doubts I had are now gone. Many thanks for this clear overview.

+jonesgerard Even with the learning curve, it's an amazing program. Once you clear those hurdles, you'll love it!

same here..... i have komplete ultimate - sale price ...but still spend most of my time in omnisphere
Amazing simply amazing. Worths every peny
What DAW are you using? :)
I'm getting this soon and was undecided on if i should get 'Trillian'' as well.
But over 8000 sounds!? i think i'll be fine, great review

GREAT VST
Is there a way to keep this all stored on a hard drive and not my computer?.
I'm using Ableton as well so maybe custom folder? any tutorials on this you can recommend?
Yes- I actually do this in my studio. There should be a way to do this during the original installation. If that doesn't work, let me know.

If you have Trillian and Omnisphere can you load Trillian patches in Omnisphere to run them through the orb?
Monster LMA
Cool, tnx man.
Do you know Greg how to sync the tempo of a arp patch to your tempo in Pro Tools 10? Many thanks in advance.
Great review! Thanks. I have a macbook pro 4 GB Ram 2014 model. Do you think it will cope with this synth?
it's suggested that you need at least 8GB of RAM and 50GB of space
Joseph Knight Thanks for getting back to me
blap200 I used Omnisphere with 4GB of RAM for nearly a year, and it worked just fine for what I was doing.
Greg Chase Thanks very much! I make ambient and also heavier stuff with a lot of automation and effects.
This is compatible with Logic Pro x?
Hernan Cortes yes
Hey Greg,
I am working with Reason 7. Is it possible to run Omnisphere as a standalone or probably in rewire?
Best regards
Omnisphere will work with ReWire! Since Reason is an "all in one" DAW, you can't add any 3rd party plugins to it.
I'd recommend you run Omnisphere in a DAW like Ableton or Logic, and then send that signal into Reason 7.

Vielen herzlichen Dank!!!! In der Zwischenzeit habe ich mir Studio One V2 Pro geholt, um auch andere Plugins zu nutzen. Beste Grüße :)
Does Omnisphere have any global controls such as ADSR, filter, reso etc., which automap to the knobs on a midi controller?
+Zarif Jumaev Not sure if it does. Never tried it with my Impuls 61, but you never know.
"Omnisphere is not an insignificant purchase, speaking from a financial perspective." just say its expensive? this is so redundant lol
The statement was made for those that aren't aware of the cost. For software that costs what Omnisphere does, you need to think hard about if the purchase is truly worth it.
Greg Chase He gets that, he just thinks your being way too formal for a synthesizer review. It seems like your trying too hard to act Professional.
Tom Witcher

Hahaha
Yeah right! But I just laugh because Digital Insan1ty is just teasing you.
I'm not really too impressed I mean the choir doesn't sound very realistic but I guess I'll try it...
I agree. It doesn't seem that great. I think I'll stick with NI MASSIVE.
Not sure if you're being sarcastic but yeh... I wish I could find a VST with good synth strings (I mean strings that sound like pads not violins, etc.)
I've tried Alchemy and it's pretty awesome but yeh.
Well you need to get the library's for it too xD
Then learn to modify then.. Genius.
Will DAW ( Cubase 7 or FL sudio) detect it if installed on other patrition?Must the program be installed on system partition and sounds stored somewhere else?My c drive is not really big. Thanks
+wowerman I believe if you specify where the sounds are located (regardless of partition), you're good to go!
it's as easy as pie
but how do they know what jupiter sounds like doeeeeeeee
Serum sounds better
For the love of god drink some water before you start recording your video
